  1. i have had the mk edge 55 on my last 2 boats. it sucks!! mount on both was bad, hard to deploy. first 2/3 speeds r useless. my weldbilt 1648 it would move on 3.my current boat , g3 1756 cc had the 55 and it barely movd it on 4. my advice is to go with a 24 v setup if u can squeeze another battery in. if that is not feasible go with a digital variable speed as a minimum requirement. i dont know motor guide and cant offer opinions on them. i have owned 3 edges mk in the last 15 yrs and cannot reccomend them. i currently run a maxxum on my boat and the mount alone was worth the upgrade. maxxum 12v variable speed would be my choice
  2. been away a while. i remember a member had a reel repair service. i think it was called daves reel repair. is he still active? i used him yrs ago. thanks
  3. how tough to fish out of a pontoon? pros and cons?i have come across the gillgetter brand pontoons, small and towable they seem to be. i cannot get the missus to go in my mod v, and the grandkids would be unsafe in my mod v.i fish the lakes of ga, dont care much for speed, but am serious about fishing. thanks for ur help.
  4. i have been thru a few boats. this is what i would look at,aluminum, welded, 16 ft, wide!!!, with a 4 stroke around 25 hp. small enough to tow, big enough for large lakes, economical on gas. i hate worrying about how much it cost to go fishing. there is nothing worse then looking at ur boat in the driveway and not having the cash to go out.jmho
  5. i am on my 3rd 4 banger.the standard tranny is rated to pull 3500 lbs, the auto 2000lbs. that is why i have had sticks over the yrs. i currently pull a 1444 g3 , total wt about 1000 lbs, i still downshift on long grades. u will notice it if u pull with that tranny.
  6. bps has the male and female plugs that u can buy an adapter for that will take 6 gage. i went thru this a couple of yrs ago. ended up buying some 6 gage jumper cables, cutting off what i needed to make the run and then making some new jumper cables.i went to an auto audio store and picked up an inline fuse holder and some 50 amp fuses. i ended up with a nice clean setup and probably didnot spend 50 bucks. i will try to post some pics
  7. does anyone run synthetic oil in their 4 stokes? opinions? how far down the road would u use it in a new 4 stroke? thanks
  8. i have owned both. the jon is the more versatile of the 2.u can use a tm on the small lakes and then when budget permits , like i just did, pick up a gas engine. the trailer is the way to go. welded and as wide as u can find. i own a 1444 g3, i think if i ever upgrade i would stop at a 16 ft, wide jon. width is more important then lenght.i enjoyed my pond prowler but my choices of where to fish was limited
  9. i was wondering if anyone has used the portable clamp on nav lites. are they any good? do they come in leds? thanks ahead of time
  10. opinions on putting ur trailer up on blocks. good idea or overkill? are flat spots a problem?
  11. thank u all for the advice. i think bolting is the way to go, instead of sealant, how about rubber washers? i would hate to take it off and on with silicone in the bolt holes. although it is portable it isnot that easy to remove. does anyone have opinions on break in?again thanks, i hate to drill holes without thinking it thru
  12. well i broke down and finally bought my 9.8 tohatsu. now when i mount it does anyone have advice? thru bolt or just clamps? do i seal the holes if i thru bolt? stainless steel bolts? where to buy? any advice is greatly appreciated. it is going on my g3 1444
  13. the wood thing i pondered, i was just looking for ideas or if there is an aftermarket mount out there, thanks
  14. it is a bow mount that is diagonal across the front deck. if u look at trackers, they have extended the deck down the left side to mount a tm. i was thinking of doing this to my g3. i need some ideas on materials and methods. thank
  15. i am thinking of moving my mount to the left side of my bow. my 1444 g3 has no mount. does anyone know of a aluminum mount that will fit my jon? ihave seen them on trackers, they appear to be made out of aluminum. any ideas?
  16. thanks for the replies.iam wondering if the start button comes on the cowling like u say. also the boat and gear probably weigh700#, add 2 goons and ur at 1100#.1200 tops. it is a semi v hull. iam not looking for hi speed, just the ability to fish larger lakes. thanks
  17. i am shopping for a small outboard, 9-15 hp. i was wondering about tohatsu/nissan? i will put it on a 1444 gr3 jon. i was wondering about the electric start option, should i buy it? it is cheaper on the initial purchase. how do u fellas hookup ur start switch? what do u use for a start switch? what kind of speed can i get out of this size motor?thank u for ur replies
  18. i wonder if anyone has opinions on tohatsu 4 strokes? i understand that they are making the mercury and nissan brands now. i am looking at a 9.8 or a15 hp to push my 1444 g3. i relize the 15 would be a better engine, how much better?how hard is it to find 9.8 decals to overcome the 9.8 restrictions?does anyone know of the best prices out there?i have been gone from the forum for a while and it is fun to be back. thanh u ahead of time
  19. ultimate bunk boards, thats the name
  20. i dont know about trex, but there is a company making them out of plastic in grayson ga, they have a web site i just cant remember the name. i do remember they were relativly in expensive. i mean under 100
  21. not for 700. i used one and it pushed my 1444 g3 at just over 6mph with 2 fatboys and their gear. if u could get it for 300 thats a deal. a little loud and it vibrates, but it is air cooled and easy to work on.
  22. your ansewer is 2 inch pvc.i made 3 posts , 2 with a 90 elbow for the ends and the middle with a t on top and bottom. i glued the posts together and pop the ridge piece in and out when i need to.i throw a tarp over it in the winter outside the 2 inch pvc is rigid enough to tent up your tarp. i will try to post some pictures.
  23. my g3 1444 has the trolling motor mountrd across the bow diagonally. i would like to move it to the left side in a straight line with the gunnel.i think i need some sheet aluminum to do this, i would appreciate some ideas or opinions on the swap and maybe some sources for sheet aluminum. thank u
  24. i need to install a bilge pump and running lites. i need ideas on how to do this right the first time. it will be done to my 14 ft jon. i just want the pump to get rid of rainwater. do i go thru the hull? i dont think i need an auto pump. the lites are something i will use very little. but i want them to work when i need them. i like everything to look profeesional, not mickey mouse.i hate to go back and mess with stuff because i didnt do it right the first time. thanks ahead of time
  25. i dont know if this belongs in this forum, but i will give it a shot. it looks like i will have to have tennis elbow surgery , there is a tear in my tendon, already tried the shots. has anyone out there had this done? how was your recovery time? i think i will be looking at 6 weeks wothout fishing, so iam trying to figure out when to have this done. i hve been fighting this for 5 months already . thank u ahead of time
