You could say that about any great QB... But look at it this way- there are plenty of guys that have a great supporting cast that aren't great... why? Because, they just aren't great. The Lion's or Raider's will prove that if he goes into the draft.

I find shallow water fishing is easiest after a front because of how it positions the fish. Any piece of cover (dock, brush, bush, tree, garbage, scum, rock) that casts a shadow or a dark spot will usually hold a fish. It doesn't if it is in 6 feet or 6" (yes 6" and the fish has part of it's back out of the water). As long as the fish can get in it or under it so it is in shade and is able to ambush.

Unless it is early spring, the spawn period, or it effects water temps drastically (15 degrees or more), it doesn't really screw up fish as much as people say. (In my opinion anyway). I think way to much emphasis is put on cold fronts. It seems as though fish in the north become accustomed to them because we can get four to six a week sometimes. Even in summer you can have one or two move through a week. If anything you just were not on the right deal. But it was a good one as you were fishing overcast conditions with a search bait. If it were me, I would have been throwing a jig at anything that offers cover in the shallows. And I would have been throwing the same size and fishing it just as fast as I always do. By moving around more and covering more water you will find more fish that will eat out of a reaction strike than trying to force feed them small baits. There are just some places you can put a jig that you can't put a crankbait.

In BASS Times after the Classic in 2005 there were a couple articles on how off the rivers were and how weeks later there were club tournaments with 13-15 pound bags of smallies coming in.

After witnessing this at about 2am on the way home from the beach I will not be purchasing a Volvo, ever. We are behind a guy driving a new white Volvo (don't know the model), who had to have been drunk because he was all over both lanes. The woman and I were keeping our distance in her Toyota doing about 50 when I saw the Volvo's brake lights and a deer fly over the car at us. I swerve and miss the deer and now begin avoiding remnants of the Volvo. We both pull over, the guy driving the Volvo just misses a pole in the process. Goes to get out of the car, stumbles, gets back in and flies away. I don't think he could have gotten too far because there was nothing left to his front end. Hopefully the cops got him. I'm still in shock how the front end of the Volvo seemed to just explode and the deer didn't.

I will also be buying one of those Abu rods.

I got to play with one a couple weeks ago. The new Lowrance systems with the Side Imaging is the real deal. I'm going back to Lowrance.

Weedy, wow. I know in the back gets a little clumpy but thats all I find. If I need a relaxing day I will throw a small jig (Strike King Bitsy Flips with a Zoom Jr. Chunk) at all the brush along the dam and boat ramp shore and the rocks along the other side. Artic Cat and I have had some 40 fish days there in a couple hours.

Yup, it's going to be another great tournament and a battle of ounces. The best angler will shine and I can really see Ike winning it all (I never say that). I was there in 2005 and Pittsburgh is a great city and I wish I could head back there this year. Mellon Arena was packed for the final day weigh-in and was pretty full on day 2 as well.

Did anyone realize that you are fishing a clear water smallmouth body of water during the spawn/post-spawn period 3 days after the Bassmaster Elite Series pounds the heck out of it for about 2 weeks? I'm just saying there is going to be a lot of empty beds... ;D I want in. Just have to check my school schedule, think exams finish the 5th. Smallies are my specialty. 8-)
