Curado E7 Problems
Those are machining marks. My new Curados have those marks. Both have been used 4 times already. They are working flawlessly. If those marks were your problem, then not only would something have to be stuck between your spool and the frame face, but whatever it was would have to be rotating as well to leave swirls. Whatever your problem, those marks isn't it.

East coast guys worried?
Funny how these storms work. There was a waterspout a few years ago in the Chesapeake Bay that came ashore in Ocean View. It dropped little fish all over the place. There were little silver fish on roofs and the roads. ------- Glenn, I'm shocked ! ;D

Is spinning gear best for jerkbaits?
I like spinning gear for jerkbaits, though I do use spinning and baitcasting. I like spinning because jerking is something I like to do with my right hand. (No dirty comments .) I feel like I have better control with my right hand. I like the crank on the left side of the reel for jerking. For jerking, I like a a 6'6" medum/medium fast rod, and for ripping a 7' m/mf rod with a long handle. (I think jerking and ripping are two distictly different techniques, though some use the term interchangeably.)

Ditched my BPS reels...
Put them in the flea market forum. Curados will go fast.

East coast guys worried?
And this is one reason why these storms are dangerous. The simple fact is no one really knew how close it would pass, or if it would actually hit. People think it's overhyped and then think that the next time. When they get walloped, they weren't prepared. Hurricane Isabell hit as a Cat 1 and passed as a tropical storm. I was without power for 2 weeks. I watched, and I'm not overstating, 14 trees fall from my front porch. My neighbor's house was split. Years earlier, Floyd hit as a tropical storm. I adjusted claims in Franklin, Virginia and the piles of dead hogs, polluted water and garbage made me puke. First time a stench ever made me puke. I talked to other adjusters who saw coffins that had come out of the ground with heavy rains sitting in people's yards. Had Earl hit as a Cat 3 on the same path as Isabell, or dumped any more rain that Floyd did, it would have been cataclysmic. You can't underhype these storms.

Rapala Glass Fat Raps
I've used balsa Rapala Fat Raps with some success. A few years ago when Bass Pro was liquidating their Glass Fat Raps, they lowered the price to $1.44 per lure. I bought all they had - about 20. Now I have a ton of them and have only used one or two a few times. Does anyone like these lures or use them with success? I just never seem to get around to using them.

CHEAPEST Reel you've been impressed with?
My Shimano Spirex 2500FG amazes me with its smoothness. It's a great all around reel and fantastic for crankbaits on my All Star American Classic 6'6" M/MF.

How to euthanize a whale
That reminds me of the beached whale in Oregon, I think, that city officials tried to dispose of by blowing up. Instead, hundreds of pounds of whale meat rained down in a parking lot nearly crushing some cars.

East coast guys worried?
My neighborhood barely got a breeze and very little rain. And that's how these storms lull you into a sense of carelessness. Then WHAM!, the next storm hammers you.

Update on Hooker Bait and Tackle
Hookers will take phone orders. He actually has a lot of nice, higher end stuff. Especially Megabass and Lucky Craft baits. That's part of his problem, IMO, is that he has too much high end stuff and not enough bread-n-butter equipment 90% of walk-in customers are looking for. His website is not up to date but has a lot of stuff on it. I would call in any orders. http://www.hookerbaitandtackle.net/hooker/

1st Baitcaster purchase
I think I'd get the Citica, too. Might as well start where you'll eventually end up.

Update on Hooker Bait and Tackle
He always has a sale. All you have to do is ask and it's 10-20% off anything in stock. You can pick up Lucky Craft cranks in there cheaper than Greentop or BPS.

Update on Hooker Bait and Tackle
Stopped by last night to pick up some frogs and spoke to Darryl. The "convenience store" thing fell through and the apparently the lease holder isn't letting him out (3 years to go). So he is going to invest some money in new stock and give it another go. Looks like he will stay open for the foreseeable future.

Zillion, Revo, Curado, Patriarch XT, Others?
I'm not saying you are wrong since I haven't cracked one open. But I'm curious why Abu would put a brass worm gear in their "light weight" Revo. It has a lighter spool, aluminum drive gear, but a brass worm gear? All the heavy Revos I've owned, including the previous Premier, it was plastic.

Please tell me which reel you wold buy for pitching/ flipping
I have a Castaic I use for flipping. It's fantastic. It is a brute of a reel. The Instagage feature is extremely handy. For the price, I'm not sure there is a better flipping reel. It also pitches exceptionally well. It will pitch very light baits. I like Shimano's Instagage feature. It allows you to re-engage the spool simply by pushing up on the clutch bar. You can do that with most, if not all, Diawa baitcasters, too. Not sure if you can do that with Quantums.

Not anymore. You can find him at the moment in my double secret stomach.

help with dedicated pitch/flip set up
It's more than double the price of the Curado, though I'm sure you can find one for well under msrp. The MgFV has the Instagage switch which I like very, very much. It's light, but a bit heavier than the regular 100Mg since it as the Instagage feature and brass gearing (versus aluminum for the Mg). The brake-side spool bearing is set in a metal screw-in support that attaches directly to the frame, versus the graphite sideplate of the Curado. It is worth it? Only you can decide. I have a hard time spending that kind of money on reel. Now that I have it and have fished it, I'm gonna see if I can swing another. It's that good.

Ghost hunter killed by train
A North Carrolina man was killed by a train while out looking for ghosts. Now he's gonna be one. How ironic. http://abcnews.go.com/US/video/ghost-hunter-killed-by-train-11514337

help with dedicated pitch/flip set up
I'll make a reel recommendation: Shimano Core 100MgFV. This reel is phenominal.

Zillion, Revo, Curado, Patriarch XT, Others?
I'm far from a Zillion expert. But I do like to try a lot of different things. What's impressive about the Curado is that it will cast light baits as well as the Sol, and heavy baits as well as the Zillion. It's smooth, strong and comfortable. Right now it's my second favorite reel. Now, lemme tell you about my new Core 100MgFV...

Zillion, Revo, Curado, Patriarch XT, Others?
I fished with my new Curado 200E7s last night. On my first long cast I got a birdsnest I had to cut out and lost about 30 feet of line. Forgot to adjust the spool tnesion. Every other cast was perfect. The heaviest lure I was throwing was a 3/8 oz Koppers Live Target crawfish crank. I could easily get 100 ft casts. The reel was strong and smooth. I had one fish take my Koppers. It sufaced once then went straight down into the grass and locked itself in. I tightend the drag and pulled but felt I was really overstressing my 6'6" M/MF rod. So I loosened the drag a bit, walked back off the pier, down the bank and was able to pull him out from the opposite direction. He looked to weight about 3 lbs and was completely covered with grass when he came up. The weak link here as my rod which just didn't have enough backbone for this heavy grass. My Yo-Zuri Hybrid 10lb and 200E7 handled it well. Right now I'm smitten with the Curado. It casts as well or better than any Zillion, Fuego, Sol or Revo I've owned. It is strong, and has drag that is way more than sufficient.
