  1. I saw it on CNN.com, too.
  2. The HK USP is on my short list. Awesome gun.
  3. Glocks are ultra-reliable. I have a G21SF that has never had a problem. A regular G21 that I shot the hell out of with no problems. A G36 that functioned flawlessly, even though it chewed up my middle finger. And a G17 that rocked. Glocks are awesome. Like I said, this issue surrounds the G30SF. AFAIK, it doesn't even affect the G30, just the SF. Apparently, there is some issue with the SF frame, rails, and/or tirgger bar.
  4. The issue I experienced is almost exclusively a G30SF issue. There have been reported issues with just about every Glock here and there, but that's typical for every model from every maker. All my other Glocks were perfect. I had 20,000+ rounds through a G21 I owned and shot constantly for years. I can't remember any failures, though there may have been one here or there. Something about the G30SF has changed with recently manufactured guns. The slide is rubbing across the trigger bar leaving a gouge. This is almost universal on G30SF guns with serial numbers M**###. Mine was an NNP### serial numbered gun. Most people report the gouge, but only a few have reported the failures to return to battery. Mine functioned perfectly for awhile, and then the symptoms started. Other people have reported that the problems arise after awhile, not necessarily at the beginning. That's why i find the whole thing bizarre. Usually, you can shoot in a somewhat problematic gun. Mine started out good and became problematic. Glock has recognized the issue and has released a new replacemetn trigger bar for the 30SF. But people are reporting problems with that bar, too. I decided not to bother. I decided to just go with a gun that is highly regarded. As far as other model Glocks, I think they are okay. Right now, Glock as an issue with their .45 caliber SF models. They need to recall them.
  5. I bought a Glock 30SF recently, despite all the internet posts that said they were problematic. I went through several hundred rounds without a hitch. I chocked the complaints up to typical internet hysteria. Now I know better. This was my experience yesterday. The slide failed to return to battery multiple times on just 10 rounds of hollow point ammo. I had multiple failures to return to battery on just a few rounds of of Winchester ball ammo. Then, not only did I have multiple failures to return to battery on 50 rounds of another brand, I had multiple rounds that failed to go off due to light primer strikes. First time I've every had a gun that actually got worse as it was broken in. So, upon exiting the range, I traded the gun. I'm just not going to try and fix a realtively new gun with under 1,000 rounds through it. Here is my replacement. A new Sig Sauer P220R Carry in .45 ACP with SIG Lite night sights. If it fails to perform as expected, I'll trade it on an HK.
  6. I doubt his girlfriend will be charged with anything serious. Apparently, she was trying to get away from him and he chased her. She fled in a pickup and he jumped in the back. All she'll have to do is saying she was in fear for her life.
  7. I haven't looked at DPMS at all. I would refer a full size rifle. The Colt has impressed me the most so far, but I don't know anything about their customer service. I've owned Colt pistol, but never needed to us their customer service. Why isn't the Colt recommended? The Ruger is also high on my list of possibilities. The 556 feels great and fit and finish are nice. I am very familiar with Ruger. It's a bit expensive but not prohibitively so. Anyone with experience with the 556? I know its new.
  8. Yes sir! ;D I had to use it. Pictures of me and a fish are few and far between. Usually all you see of me in a picture is my hand!
  9. Jigs, c-rigged worms, an silver buddies near the dam. Lipless fished slow, and cranks that can get top 12+ feet. Norman Deep Little Ns or DD22s, suspending, in shad colors, work well.
  10. It's a 6.3:1 speed reel. It handles baits from 1/4oz on up very well. It's a great, light, all-around reel.
  11. They don't look that new anymore. But cleaning them after fishing, and some lemon Pledge on the rod and handles does keep them nice looking and makes the handles easy to get clean. Are you talking about the three in the seperate picture? If so, those are the new HMGs that came out this year. They are a matrix mix of rubber and cork. I like those handles very much. They have the soft feeling of cork but are a bit grippier. I think they do add a bit of weight, though.
  12. What's Shakespeare got to do with this? Shakespeare was under different ownership back then. Shakespeare has since been purchased by Jarden Corp and falls under Jarden's Pure Fishing umbrella just like Pfluegfer, Abu Garcia and Penn, among others. Sorry, the evidence is too great for me to believe Silstar/Pinnacle is not the OEM manufacturer of BPS reels and Pure Fishing companies. As of 2007, Tackle Tour reported that Pinnacle was the OEM producer for reels for the largest fishing tackle e-tailer. That would be BPS, no?
  13. I definitely want a flat top. I was thinking about a Colt HBAR 20" with the detachable handle.
  14. Actually, Silstar (aka Pinnacle) produces OEM reels for Pure Fishing and BPS (though some BPS reels are clearly Quantums). Whether they are associated with Banax is unknown to me. What is well known is the Silstar/Pure Fishing tie. Tackle Tour, who has the best contacts, reported that some time ago. One only need to compare features to see that the Sistar connection is indisputable. Silstar created the logo latch for the sideplate on BPS reels. Their spools and frames are identical. The frames are nearly identical. Magnetic brake dials are identical. More recent evidence is that as soon as Silstar introduced their new magnetic brake last year, the exact same brake showed up on new Abu and Pflueger reels. Silstar's slogan: Fishing for life. Abu's slogan: Abu Garcia for life. Silstar's USA office is even in Columbia, SC, just like Pure Fishing's. http://silstar.co.kr/index.php
  15. Thinking of buying an AR-15 type rifle. Deals can be had right now on Smith and Wesson M&Ps (under $900). Colts are fairly inexpensive, too. These particular guns are all direct impingement guns. The newer crops of gas piston rifles are a bit more but I understand they are more relible and run cleaner. The new Ruger 556, Sigs, and new Bushmaster look really good. I know there are some AR-15 shooters on the board. Any advice for someone buying his first AR-15?
  16. Back then they were pretty new. I collected all those Daiwas in just a few months. They replaced a bevy of Revos, EXTs, and other Abus I sold here on this site. I got rid of some All Star rods and replaced them with Fenwicks.
  17. Here's some of my baitcasters. I've added some more. One day, I'll lay my spinning rigs out for photos.
  18. Yep, you are in for a tough couple of months, and so is she. But rest assured, things will inprove and in the very near future she will be much better. Both of your lives will be improved. Prayers for your wife.
  19. Cart, you should post your pics of your rebuild.
  20. Burns in hell... :-?
  21. Not to take anything away from frem Reel Mech, since he's in the Reel Mech business. But learning to maintain my own reel has enhanced my enjoyment of fishing. It gives me something significantly fishing-related to do when I can't actually fish. Learning what lubes to use is important. Having proper tools is important, too. I've invested in a set of tool that I use exclusively for reel maintainence. Good quality screwdrivers are a must. I just found an oil bottle that I really like. Made of for gun oil, it puts out a very controllable drop of oil, much better than trying to apply it with the plastic bottle it came in. http://www.deweyrods.com/cgi-bin/ccp5/cp-app.cgi?usr=DEWEY27750&pg=prod&ref=O1&cat=SPEC&catstr=HOME:SPEC
  22. Take them apart and compare how they are built. Then ask why you are paying over $50 for the Citica. ;D
  23. I heard he's moving to Sveden.
  24. The Fuego's an awesome reel.
