  1. Geez, I thought you were going to post your last-ever photo of your bluegill.
  2. You can do that, where legal. But the CHP gives you a lot more options. For instance, a CHP holder can legally carry on National Forest, State Forest and Wildlife Management Areas in Virginia outside hunting seasons. Non-CHP holders can't.
  3. 8lb is perfect for the Sol. I have two, both on Fenwicks. One on a HMG 6'6" medium/mediun-fast, and one on a HMG 6'6" medium/fast. I use 8lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid on both. I use them for very light plastics, light jigs, etc. Also use them for light topwaters, small cranks, etc.
  4. The Elite Techs are excellent rods. I have a Crankshaft rod and like it very much. Fenwick did a good job on this line of rods. Of course, it goes without saying that the STX is excellent as well. Your set up may have some cross-over capability. Big jigs, pitching, big c-rigs, soft swim baits. Techniques that utilize big single-hook lures.
  5. The concealed handgun permit is nice to have, even if you aren't carrying on your person. When I travel, I like to carry a handgun in the console between the seat, or glovebox. My permit covers that. You have a lot more options on transporting a handgun when you have a concealed handgun permit.
  6. He went from the best reel maker to the second best. If he keeps working his way down, say through Pflueger, Bass Pro house brand, Pinnacle, Shakespeare, Quantum, he may eventually become a Shimano man.
  7. Reel maintenance isn't rocket science. There was a time when I didn't know how to open the wrapper on a slice of American cheese. Now I do it all the time.
  8. The shad is the one Rage Tail I don't like. I've never caught a darned thing on one. On the contrary, the Space Monkey is the best bait ever devised by the hand of man. If bass aren't biting anything else, they will take a Space Monkey.
  9. It would be perfect for these techniques. I have two Fuegos. They are light, well built, exceptionally well finished and cast great. Current close-out prices make them best-values. Go for it!
  10. The new GTs are nice rods. I've gotten to handle them and they are light, have nice guides and really nice handles. I suspect people that refer to them as "mop handles" have no experience with them. The people I know that actually use them like them very much.
  11. I don't handload. But I should. I've shot more .45 rounds than all other handgun rounds combined. Since my first handgun, I've owned the following .45s. Springfield Armory 1911A1. The first one SA marketed (with the green/grey parkerizing, lanyard loop, plastic grips, all of which came in a cardboard and styrofoam package). Springfield Armory Mil-Spec, blued. Ruger P90 Colt 1991A1 5" Colt 1991A1 Officer's Colt 80's series Government Colt 80's series Commander (with the little puny sights) Colt 80's series Stainless Enhanced (.38 Super, actually) EAA Witness (aka Tanfoglio) Glock 36 Glock 30SF Glock 21SF Glock 21 (over 20,000K rounds through this one, and rarely cleaned) Para Ordnance P12-45 All of these lovelies came into and out of my life. Usually shot them, and traded them of something else. Right now the only .45s I own are the Sig P220 and Colt Commander pictured above. I think I've gotten to the point that I'll stick with what I like - 1911s - and never trade or sell any again.
  12. I was only kidding about Ruger. The first handgun I ever bought for myself was a Ruger MkII. I remember I disassembled it and couldn't get the thing back together. Took it back to the dealer who couldn't reassemble it either. So he gave me a new one which was not only utterly reliable but easy to assemble/disassemble. Since then I've owned numerous Rugers and every one of them have been outstanding. Right now, I only own two - a GP100 4" .357 and a SP101 2" .357. I carry the SP101 more than any of my nother guns.
  13. It's treating me just fine. But that's old news. Here's my newest baby. Colt Commander .45 ACP. I'm not sure if this gun will remain 100% stock, or be the basis for a custom pistol.
  14. Hardly. A compact SR9 (9mm), and a GP100 and a Blackhawk in .327 Federal Magnum. WTH? No one is buying the .327 now. Why more guns in that caliber? Since that round has been introduced, I've never seen it for sale, anywhere.
  15. Tee hee hee
  16. http://www.ruger-firearms.com/ Something really cool? Or another recall?
  17. I can do it any time that day (as long it's not like 8:00 AM or something like that). So others can choose the time.
  18. The Daiwa booth was big, visible, and convenient. So I'm all for meeting there again. Even if they moved it.
  19. It's that time. Who's going? Where we gonna meet? I'll bring a better camera for this year's family portrait. January 15 - 17, 2010 Richmond Raceway Complex Richmond, Va Hours: Friday 10am - 8 pm Saturday 9am - 8 pm Sunday 10am - 5 pm Admission: Adults $8.00 Seniors $7.00 Jr. Anglers (6-12) $5.00 5 and under free Admission good for all 3 days with Return pass
  20. Released on a $500 bail? $500? Isn't bank robbery a big-time federal offense? $500? :-?
  21. I think the 200DHSVs are better reels than the newer E200s. If you take them apart, you can definitely see where Shimano saved production cost with the E200.
  22. It's a good reel. It is a BPS exclusive. Daiwa has a line of reels that use that basic frame. Among those reels is the new Daiwa Aggrest, which is at the "top end" of the line. Nevertheless, the TD Pro has more bearings than the Aggrest and some people that have used both say the TD Pro performs as well, at a lower price than the Aggrest, making it a better value. Most posts I've read suggest the TD Pro is a very good reel. From what I know, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.
  23. I made a short flick about the great reel brand debate. http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/5877207/
  24. I think my next .45 ACP is going to be a Beretta Px4 F Storm. Many knowledgeable folk are calling it the best polymer framed gun yet. I've had the opportunity to handle them and they are the best feeling gun I've yet picked up. Field stripping is the easiest I've seen on an auto. I haven't fired one, but I'm impressed as heck so far.
