  1. Sounds like y'all all need to on get the the bid and jacket at Bass Pro that I got. It says it is good for -109, which it only gets to about 15 the coldest, but mainly 20's-30's during the winter, but the 7-10 mph winds on the lake make it feels colder. Then their is those days like last week, about 50 and very calm water. I thought I was in heaven. I got stunked and didn't have any luck, but it was nice being out their. I could have took a nap and not even have to use a anchor.
  2. You should only smoke the tires at the boat ramp if you floor it. My dodge dakota V6 has the limited slip in it and if I floor it will spin the tire but if you just give it a little gas it will keep gripping even with hardly any tread on the tires. So just remember that because a 4cy can pull it out if you remember that. But the 4cyl then would have more trouble going up hills. You also need to remember even thou it says it gets a certain mpg it might not be completely right. A old grandma might get 25mpg in my truck, and I get about 15mpg because I drive faster, and my dodge's market says it should get about 18-20mpg. I don't know anyone who has one and I haven't really looked to much into the new Chevy/GMC's trucks. Not the hybrids but the regular trucks. I'm not sure about the 6cyl, but the V8's are suppose to use all 8cyls when you floor it, going up hill, and when taking off but when cruising it only uses 4 or so cylinders to save gas when it doesn't need all 8cyls. You might want to look at those, they might be to costly, but worth looking into. Also a truck gets about 1-2 mpg better than a suv.
  3. I'm not sure how far you are from Dale Hollow Lake (TN/KY border southeast of you) and that lake has the world record smallmouth bass.
  4. The pixels are the resolutions on the screen but don't forget about the watts. The watts how fast the transducer sends and receives the signals. I went to Bass Pro and looked at the different models they had and I really spent some time looking at the different screens, functions, prices, and really comparing them. I found for me I really like the Lowrance X67C Depthfinder. It has a 320 x 240 pixel resolution (color), which color screens usually always give you a better screen shot even with less pixels. It has a 800 watts peak-to-peak transmit power. What I really liked about this model is it was $250 ($50 more then the black & white one I was looking at), but the different screen modes are great. Their is a night view (screen is black and bottom green) and some other views, but the best which I use the most is the bottom tracking mode. It gives you gives you a great view of the bottom that you don't get with the black and white. The bottom tracking lets you see, by lines if the bottom is hard (maybe rocks) or lighter (like sand). I couldn't find any picture of the view, but if you go by Bass Pro look at this one. Because when I was looking I wasn't looking for the top of the line one either. I think for the price and what it gives you this one, in my opinion, is the best one.
  5. my boat needs all that, but whenever I go to take to it to a car wash it just keeps wanting to go straight so we head to lake instead of turning right to the car wash. Anyone else have that problem. I usually go all the fixing things during the week and when the weekend comes I can head straight to the lake.
  6. They only burn out I will get is if I don't put sunscreen on and get burn at the beginning of the summer/hot weather months. Once I tan I'm good to go, but it's that first 1-2 trips that if I don't remember to put it on I'll feel it latter.
  7. Hey whatever comes in the mail with your name on it means it's yours. That Dicks Sporting Goods lost, they should have done better at shipping.
  8. I have been new to Bass fishing this past year, and I've been reading "The Complete Guide to Freshwater Fishing" by Freshwater Angler. You can find in on Amazon.com for about $20-$25 new with shipping. It about Bass pretty good in it, and other freshwater fish. I really like it and it is a great book for beginners. I'm also a member of Bassmaster, Bassin', and In Fisherman so those should help me pick up a lot faster. My next book I will buy is "Largemouth Bass" by The Freshwater Angler. By suggestion is to go to your local or main library and either check out (if it's county it should/might be free) or skim through a couple of books to see if they are what you are looking for, then you can go to Amazon.com or Ebay and find it cheaper then a bookstore.
  9. You might want to look at a fishing map, here in Tennessee we have the Sportsman fishing book which has 3 books for Tennessee (east, middle, west) and it shows a map of every body of water in that area and list what type fish are in the lake and a little about the lake. That way you can get an idea about the lake and view it for fishing spots to try.
  10. I got my fishing mainly from myself. When were young my mom, dad, and brother would go out to the lake and maybe do very little fishing maybe worms on the snoopy pole back in party cove, but mainly swim and water skiing. That's how I got the love of the water and fishing gave me a excuse to be on the water and grown to love it. My grandfathers (both) died when I was very young or before I was born. I wish there was some who could have gave me some pointers on fishing, but I guess Bass Resource is my grandfather now.
  11. They only doodling I do is when I'm on the pot.
  12. For something that old your best bet is to write/call them.
  13. Since This was my first year at Bass fishing and started with the bottom rods and reels, I will maybe ask for a gift card to BPS, Academy Sports, Walmart, or Dicks Sporting Goods to upgrade rods.
  14. I've never done that but maybe you are trying to learn if you are a shore fishing trying to cast into the surf or to a dam. I'm guessing if your near a dam or on the side of the water I just have a feeling that when you try that you will slip like that one guy in the video and you would slide into the water.
  15. Way to go, sounds like she might be hooked on fishing now.
  16. I like Bassmaster, In Fisherman, & Bassin'. I tihnk i like Bassmaster the best because of the in depth articles for certain seasonal patterns, how certain anglers win events and what they used and how they used it. I also like it the tips from the writers or other members about other things, rod storage, fishing tips, etc...
  17. I'm new to Bass fishing, but I love just getting out on the lake and I go every weekend I can. I usually have about 40-50 minute drive (20-30 miles each way), but the gas prices haven't kept me from going out. I think the more serious boaters will just deal with it and keep doing what they love. I think the gas prices will only boater/anglers that only do it from time to time and use their boats lightly. The ones that pretty much only use it about 2-4 times a year from memorial day to labor day type. I plan on boating until I die, and if gas prices get higher then I guess I'll have to go get some $1 tv dinners at Walmart because I'm going to keep putting gas in truck and boat, and if all else fails. I guess I'll just have to keep the fish I catch to eat. Either way I'm going to be on the water.
  18. I've done 1 & 3. I forgot to pull the anchors up once when I was in party cove with my dad and his friend was coming in with his house boat and I was moving to make room for him, and forget the anchor was still down and then got it stuck. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't going anywhere. #3 I have done numerous times, usually it's because I flip it down and it puts back up before I throw the lure or I didn't flip it down enough and it comes back up and I go to throw a good long cast and the lure goes no way. The first second I look at it like what the hell, and then look down and see the it is flipped up.
  19. The BPS store where I live great, I can only guess yours is about the same. It has everything you can think of for fishing, hunting, camping, & pretty much outdoors. Actually where I live a lot of the prices are about the same as Dick's, Walmart, & Academy Sports. It's just they don't have the cheapo stuff like them as in $1 spinners & stuff. But BPS has everything & a bunch variety so you can get all your stuff in one place. Sometimes if I'm bored I'll just go there and look at stuff to get ideas about the boat & stuff. They might not have told you, but at least at my BPS, they have seminars with people that talk about different stuff and help learn new tricks in fishing, hunting, BBQ/Cooking, etc... so you might want to look for things like that, that they might be having. They are free to watch, you just have to know the times. You will find yourself going to the store a lot if it's not far away, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
  20. I have been trying the Berkley's PowerBait Attractant (spray) for Bass and the one for Gamefish, that comes in brown and green like yum's scents. And I also tried some kind of garlic with glitter type of jell scent, I can't remember who made it but it wasn't one of the main companies. I usually even spray it on my hands so when I am changing a lure and touching the lure it keeps a fishy type smell and not mine. I'll have to try megastrike.
  21. My guess since your a shore angler, is that with the water temp dropping the fish might be slowing your movement and hanging out deeper for the winter months, unlike the summer months where they come shallow. So my guess is that the fish might in deeper water that might be to far from you. But that is just my guess, and I'm no pro. There should be some better advice from others but that is my guess.
  22. I usually have different rods with different setups, different lines for different lures. I usually have 2 for spinnerbaits, so I don't have to spend time tying on new ones, I usually have a spinner on one and a buzzbait on the other. Then I have 2 for cranks, new for heavier and one for smaller. Then I have one for jigs/chatterbaits. A couple for plastics, one jigged for drop shots, and one for light weight small plastics, and the last with heavier line for longer plastics or for going throw weeds. That's just the rods, and I have quick snaps so I change lures quickly. If something isn't working I will change after I give it enough time at that lure. I also have so many different types so I don't have to spend anytime wasting tying nots, I just pick up the rod with that on it. And if you snap my line, I just put it to the side and pick up the next rod, I don't have to spend that time getting it ready. I can do that at home during the week. I remember one time I caught 3 different Bass in the same area with 3 different types of lures. They would bit one, then not go after it again, then a new lure they would go after that one then stop, and then same with the last one. Then during the summer night fishing, I wasn't having any luck so I pretty much tried every thing in my bag, and tried different presentations. I think the very hot 100+ days made it basically impossible to catch a fish, but I eventually caught a fish that night. Some times it may hurt you to have so many types but others times it is good.
  23. -if you plan a date around your fishing schedule
  24. I have Nationwide Insurance for my boat, but I only have Liability on it because it isn't a expensive boat. But I'm thinking of upgrading the plan to cover the electronics and fishing gear. But for just the Liability it is $21.25 a month for my 16ft 1972 bass boat. It might be better if my road driving record was better, but I don't see my road record as anything to do with my water driving because I drive fast on land but my boat only goes 21 mph so I could speed if I wanted to. I'm also more careful on the water then on land. My Dad has State Farm and I think he pays about $20 a mouth for his 21ft cuddy cabin.
