I have been having good luck using the Cavitron buzzbaits and the Ragetail toads. The bite seems ok to me but I also fish tidal waters most of the time, I don't know if that makes a difference.
  4. I use Ragetail frogs, Cavitron buzzbaits, chaterfrogs, swim senkos and a few differnt types of spinnerbaits in heavy cover. to the forum
  5. Thats a nice looking smallie you got there.
  6. I just caught one (5lb) last Saturday on a rattleheadbaits spinner bait. I also caught a snakehead with it.

  10. I called the park and filed a complaint. They took this very seriously and said they were going to look into who paid fees and contact them about their behavior on the water and that they would also call me back later today. I recommend that any one who had a problem with the jet skiers to contact the park officials, they do not want these jet skiers doing this. As for thw water clarity, it was clear in some spots and slightly stained in others.
  11. The upper Potomac was a lot of fun to fish. We definately caught quite a few smallies, however most of them were small in size. The only problem I had yesterday was with the moron jet skiers who decided to come to close to the canoe on numerous occasions (within 25 feet at high rates of speed). I will be filing a complaint with the park today about it since they have the information (name, the make, model and license plate) of all who launched these. They violated the rules on numerous occasions.
  12. No they are Pike. I have caught Gar and I know what they look like, they have a long skinny mouth. I have also caught Pickerel and they are not Pickerel either. These were definately Pike unless we have alligator gar in the Potomac but I did not see that as a species in the Potomac.
  13. There are pike in Quantico and Chopawamsic bays. I have seen them first hand, a couple of them looked to be a few feet long.
  14. Thats a nice hawg you got there.
  15. Nice job with the ragetail shad, those are some nice pictures.
  16. Here is the big ole monster (snakehead), he attacked my rattlehead baits spinner bait and bent it up pretty good.
  17. I took I took my wife's cousin and his girlfriends daughter out fishing on the Occoquan today for a couple of hours. We had a pretty good day I caught a 5lb catfish and a 7lb snakehead, my wife's cousin caught 2 catfish and his girlfriends daughter caught her frirst bass (2lbs). This was only her second time fishing and she was pretty excited to have caught this. I figured I would share this with all of you. She is a really cute kid and she now loves to fish thanks to this trip, another fisherwoman is born.
  18. Do a search and you will find this has been discussed many times. You should be able to read those posts and then decide if you want to try them.
  19. This was a lot of fun again. We had close to 40 strikes and missed a lot of fish due to them getting tangled up in the pads. I still had a real good time out there and look forward to our next trip out. Man I love those rage tail frogs.
  20. Both Quantico Creek /Bay and Chopawamsic Creek/Bay are tidal waters. Both have lots of pads and hydrilla in them.
  21. Where did you guys launch on the upper Potomac?
  22. Congrats on winning your first tournament.
  23. I hook mine with the loop of the hook on the belly side and I skin hook the tip of the hook on the toads back.
  24. I have had similar problems but I believe it is related to the way they were hooked. I have adjusted the way I hook them and they will roll over once and a while when I run them over slop. I correct it by stopping the retrieve for a couple seconds and then start my retreive back up, this always seems to turn them back over so they run right. The baits do not last long with aggresive bass and when pulling them through the slop but that is because they are a soft plastic. I can typically use these for multiple fish before replacing them. I only pay $3 or so a bag so they end up about .60 each which isn't that bad since I get a lot of strikes with these. I don't think it is a big deal to use a pack a day if need be.
  25. You might want to send Roadwarrior (Kent) a pm and ask him, he lives in Tennessee.
