  1. my vote was going to be for the pflueger, but it doesn't matter much at this point. i just picked up the 6735 about two months ago and absolutely love it, and i hope you do, too. i also have a shimano senora, which is the cheap $40 reel they sell at walmart, but for the price it's a great reel. my next reel purchase will be a couple steps up either with a pflueger or a shimano, probably a shimano just to see what the hype's all about. good luck with the president!
  2. the yo-zuri hybrid line is excellent. buy it, use it, love it.
  3. nice looking fish!
  4. if i were going to remove one of the two treble hooks on my hulapoppers, jitterbugs, etc., which would be best to remove and why? it makes more sense to me to remove the hook closest to the head of the lure, leaving the trailing hook on, but i figured i'd see what the experts say. sorry if this is a repost, but i did a search and couldn't seem to find anything regarding this question.
  5. uh oh, there's a BPS opening up in Foxboro? great, there goes the rest of my money.... i just hope Brady doesn't have too much on his plate this year, what with the newborn and all. and i hope the whole Asante Samuel situation gets straightened out soon, he is clutch and we could really use him this year. here's to another world series AND super bowl ring in new england this year!
  6. haha, i love the kid to death, we were just young and stupid then. now we're. . . well, young and stupid, just not AS young. i wouldn't put it past him to pull the same thing today or tomorrow!
  7. funny stuff reading this thread. years ago i was fishing a local river with my dad and brother, and had to go #1, so i put my rod down in the canoe next to me, told my dad i had to go and got the "so stand up and go" response. i stood up in the front of the canoe and started to go, and my brother, being the loving sibling that he is, thought it would be funny to rock the canoe. what he failed to realize is that the lure i was using was swinging freely right next to me. needless to say i ended up with a treble hook where no man would ever care to have one. luckily it didn't get hooked too bad and i was able to gently pull it off. i haven't gone fishing with my brother since then.
  8. oh, and ps. GO SOX!
  9. as a fellow masshole and newb to the board, welcome!
  10. i probably look grumpy because it was getting dark and the mosquitoes were out in droves, haha. i went back the morning after around 8am, it was only about 55 degrees out and the sun hadn't quite come up over the trees. i got skunked except for a tiny little largemouth, and my buddy that i brought with me caught a 7 or 8" perch. we were only out for an hour or so, and it was definitely the wrong time of day for that place. next chance i get i'll be heading back out there to see what else i can pull in.
  11. my dad works at a local railroad depot and he told me the other day about a small pond that's located right next to the depot. i guess it's (un)official name is "stump pond". i made the 10 minute drive out there around 6 the other night after work. i didn't have a boat so i was stuck to the shore, and the first spot i tried was all overgrown and made for nearly impossible casting. i saw another spot across the way that was accessible from an adjoining road and made my way over there. needless to say i was glad i did. the first two pics are of a decent little 2lber, and the second set of pics are of a nice little 3lber i pulled in using watermelon/black flake 5"senko's. 2lber 3lber everyone i've shown the pics to says i need to smile more, haha.
  12. i'll be looking into the all-stars i guess, i'd rather not buy a rod without being able to hold it in my hands before making a decision. thanks again for all the help guys.
  13. thanks for the replies everyone. i knew i'd get some good responses on here. farmer, the reason i haven't really looked into getting another fenwick is because i'd like to see what else is out there. as much as i like the one i have, i can't help but think i might find something i like even more. i was actually looking at the BPS bionic blade online the other day, it seems like a decent rod that falls in my price range. i guess i'm going to have to try to find a BPS around MA so that i can get a firsthand look at some of their rods. so my next question is, where's the closest BPS to central massachusetts? thanks again.
  14. been lurking for a couple weeks now and decided to join up. i've found tons of useful info on this site and just wanted to know what people think of my rig, and also to get suggestions on a new rod. my main rig is a 6'6" Fenwick Eagle GT medium action 1-piece, with a Pflueger President 6735X spinning reel. right now i've got berkley vanish 10# on and 20# spiderwire stealth with 10# trilene sensation backing on my spare. i'm not too happy with the spiderwire and will be upgrading to powerpro in the very near future. my other rig is a 6' rhino 2-piece i bought at walmart (bought in haste, soon to be upgraded and retired to the basement) with a shimano sonora spinning reel. i'm running 10# berkley trilene sensation and berkley vanish on the shimano. i mostly use 5" senko's texas-rigged where i fish, but sometimes i'll throw a crankbait or a topwater depending on the time of day, temperature, etc. any suggestions on a decent $40-$50 rod with a slightly different action than the fenwick that i could run my shimano with? i was looking at the berkley lightning rod but wasn't too sure on it. i like the action of my fenwick but would like something a little bit shorter (6' as compared to the 6'6" fenwick) and faster just to have a decent array of rods. i know the "what rod should i buy?" question has been beat to death, but i'm looking for a decent rod to run with my decent shimano, and any suggestions would help. thanks in advance. also, i mostly shore fish due to a lack of a boat, but still fish from canoe's often. the areas i'm fishing are usually small to medium sized lakes and reservoirs in the central massachusetts area.
