Knots
+2. i used to use a trilene knot a lot, but when i started using braid and fluoro it didn't seem to hold as well so i switched to a palomar and it's all i use now. i also use a uni-uni knot when tying braid to a mono or fluoro backing.

3rd Annual BassResource.com Roadtrip!!!
unfortunately the airline i'd be flying on doesn't go to either one of those cities, only memphis which is about a 4-5 hour drive away. thanks for the suggestion though.

BPS Foxboro update 1-11-2008....
i've been wanting to get out there but from the sounds of it, it's not really worth it at this point. keep us updated so we can go raid the racks once they get a shipment in.

Pflueger Supreme Spinning Reel
check the diameter of the braid you're using. it will indicate what the diameter is in relation to mono, ie. 40# test braid has a diameter equal to 10# mono (just an example, not sure if that's accurate).

3rd Annual BassResource.com Roadtrip!!!
so i got in touch with the airlines that i had booked my previous tickets through (airtran and delta). airtran was exceptionally helpful in informing me i have a $280 credit with them, while delta has yet to provide me with one bit of info in regards to the ticket i had cancelled or the credit i am supposed to have with them. regardless, i have to use the airtran credit before may of 2008, which means i'd very much like to attend this trip. i've got a bunch of questions i'm hoping someone in the know can answer for me. what city is everyone flying into? i'm guessing birmingham. i'd be flying out of either boston, hartford or providence, depending on the city i'd be flying into due to airtran being limited to certain airports. also, any info on lodging would be great, and if anyone's looking to share a room i'd be willing to do so. i'm 27, i get along with just about everyone, casual drinker, non-smoker, and i don't snore. i'd also be looking to find a spot on a boat with an experienced angler. i've only gotten into the game this past summer, so i'm fairly new to bassin', but i learn quickly and am respectful of other people's property (meaning i won't spill on your deck, etc.) if anyone that has any info they'd like to share could either pm me or reply to this post, i'd appreciate it a lot. *edit* apparently airtran doesn't fly into birmingham, so i might have to fly into atlanta and drive from there. i guess i'll have to see what info delta can give me and maybe book a flight into birmingham with them.

i've got a 35 supreme and a 35 president. the supreme is slightly smaller and noticeably lighter than the president. i run 8# on the president and i'm putting 6# on the supreme.

Old Grizzly Fenwick rod
just got this in the mail today. it's a vintage grizzly-fenwick 6'7" 1-piece spinning rod i found on ebay. it's in excellent shape, the cork looks brand new and all the wraps are tight and solid. i figure if i start "collecting" rods it'll give me an excuse to have more than anyone really thinks is reasonable, haha.

Shimano Symetre or ???????????
like pfluemis said, for another $10 you can get the pflueger supreme. i just picked up an 8035 and it's buttery smooth and quiet. light as a feather, too.

Deep Creek Lures
the guy i got the bags from was saying how the owner of deep creek's been sued by a couple different companies because he does copy their stuff, but he makes it ever so slightly different that he somehow doesn't get in trouble for it. i don't know how true that is, but judging by the description for the MT worm, i'd be willing to bet it's pretty close to the truth. the Stump Thumper and the Slimshad also have the same descriptions...

Deep Creek Lures
anyone ever heard of this brand or used them? i picked up 13 bags of different plastics last night for super cheap. they make a direct knock-off of the GYCB senko, and all of their plastics are garlic infused. the guy i picked them up off of brought them up from north carolina and says that no one up here in the northeast has seen these yet.

Opinions on....????
i actually just picked up an okuma nemesis baitcaster last night. i got it for a steal, $50 for the reel and a 6'6" all star pro series rod. the reel doesn't work 100% however, but i'm sure it'll be an easy fix. it seems like a decent reel so far, i'll report back in 3 months when i can actually use it.

ha, those are actually shoes.

santa was a little late this year
no it's not the drag, i'm sure it's probably a broken piece inside, i just didn't know if anyone knew what it might be. i'll have to get it fixed or try doing it myself but i know zilch when it comes to baitcaster's. *edit* so i just figured out that if i turn the reel over so i'm looking at the reel foot and engage the bail switch and then start reeling, it works perfectly normal. the thumb switch pops back up every time. then if i turn it back over like how it would be sitting on the rod and try doing the same thing, it doesn't work. the bail stays open when i start reeling. anyone? bueller? any ideas what it could be?

santa was a little late this year
i found an ad on craigslist the other day that had all kinds of baits for sale. this guy about an hour away sold his tackle shop in north carolina due to a divorce, but he took most of his products with him when he moved back up here and is selling them off for huge discounts. i took a ride out to his place tonite with my buddy joe to check out what he had and ended up coming home with this lot. 13 bags Deep Creek assorted plastics 6 bags Yum assorted plastics 6 bags GYCB assorted plastics 2 Booyah jigs 1 bag Storm swimbaits 3 Bomber crank baits 1 Matzuo Fantastic Minnow Okuma Nemesis NS-200W baitcast reel All Star Pro Series PR786C MH Fast action baitcast rod the Okuma's thumb switch doesn't engage when you turn the handle after a cast, so you have to flip it by pushing it up with your finger, but other than that reel and the All Star rod are brand new. all told i spent $105 for the whole bunch. the rod lists for $49.99 and the reel (in working condition obviously) is around $100 new. the plastics would have been about $120 retail. i should be all set for a little while. ps. any ideas why the bail doesn't engage on the okuma?

Ice fishing
i went out on sunday with two friends and between the 3 of us we caught 20+ perch and at least 10 pickerel. we were on a smaller lake though. we set up in the middle and just spaced our holes out all over because there was no one else on the ice. there aren't any bass in the lake we were at though, just perch and pickerel, and it wasn't that deep, maybe 8-10 feet at most. we were setting the shiners down about 3-3 1/2 feet. and like robby said, perch school up, so if you hit one on a tip-up, pull him in, let him go and drop a jig in the hole, you're bound to catch a couple more.

Early Ice Out
i picked up my license last week so i'm all set. i feel the same way, i'd much rather be casting than setting up tip-ups, but if it means catching fish then i'm all about it. i go ice fishing with my sister's boyfriend and his brother, once the tip-ups are setup we pretty much just hangout, shoot the *****, drink some beers and enjoy being outside for a change. i'm cooped up inside all week so i look forward to getting out on the ice every weekend. once springtime rolls around and i can go throw a line in after work i'll be fishing 3-5 times a week, but for now spending a sunday on the ice will have to do.

What makes a good fishing partner?
pretty much what RW said. i go fishing with my sister's boyfriend a lot, but if we didn't get along or have the same interests i probably wouldn't enjoy it. i think something that makes a good fishing partner is one you can learn from. my sister's boyfriend, joe, has taught me a lot about fishing, and along with the endless info obtained/retained from this site i've learned more than i ever knew there was to know, and i learn something new every time i log on here or take a trip out with joe. i think that's one of the most important aspects of having a partner to go fishing with.

Early Ice Out
i was on the ice saturday and sunday out here in central ma and we had 8-10" easy. i don't think a couple days of warm weather will be enough to melt the ice completely when it's that thick, but it's sure gonna make things a mess for a little bit. isn't there a big storm coming in from the west that's supposed to dump on us soon? oh yeah, between 3 of us we caught 30+ fish on sunday, and we were only on the ice for about 4 hours. mostly perch with a couple pickerel mixed in. the pond we were on doesn't have any bass, but there are some big perch in there. we each caught at least three 1lb+ perch. there's a big tourney coming up january 26th. cash prizes given away every 5 minutes (no lie, they draw a name every 5 minutes for the duration of the tourney) and cash prizes for biggest bass, pickerel, perch and i'm sure other species. i think it's for any lake in central ma. i'll try to find more info if anyone's interested.

You know what grinds my grears
no worries, i just didn't want you thinking i was some careless punk that drives around running soccer moms off the road laughing about it! my friends and i joke about pulling that move but like i said i'm a little too responsible and conscientious to be pulling jack@** stuff like that. next time i'll have to throw a "lol" or "jk" in with a post like that.

Official BR.com Movie Review thread
just watched the bourne ultimatum last night, i thought it was pretty good. final destination 3 = terrible. recycled plot line and death scenes, and just all around boring. the first one was decent, but the 2nd and 3rd were terrible saw 2-whatever they're at now (3? 4?) = terrible. see above.

You know what grinds my grears
awww c'mon now RW, i'm kidding just as much as those other guys talking about "bump drafting" behind the slow people. i'm actually a very responsible driver and wouldn't ever pull that kind of move, especially on a highway at high speeds. lighten up!
