You know what grinds my grears
my friends and i have perfected a move that gets those slow-moving idiots out of the passing lane, and quick. when that mom in her minivan won't break the speed limit in the left lane, all you have to do is roll up next to her, swerve erratically a few times until she hits the brakes (make sure to try to catch a glimpse of the look of absolute fear they usually display at this point), and once she slows down you mash the gas and bounce on up outta there. if you gotta cut her off, do it, it'll teach her a lesson. it's gotta be a quick swerve though, you can't just drift into her lane and expect her to notice. try it out, it works.

Will the best Fluorocarbon please stand up!?!?
i bought a spool of vanish and hated it almost from the first cast. been using yo-zuri hybrid in 6 and 8# test and don't have a complaint yet.

oooooooouch
these monkey bites are starting to hurt.... i was going to wait until spring to pick up a reel for my HMG, but decided to bring the rod in to the local store to try out a few different set ups "just to see". the only problem is when i go "just to see" it usually translates into "just to spend money". i decided to stick with the pflueger brand and picked up a supreme 8035x. holy smooth! now i just have to wait 3 months for the ice to thaw before i can use it. i figure with the money i saved getting the pflueger over a stradic, i'll pick up either another baitcaster or a whole bunch more tackle. or maybe i should start saving for that g'ville trip....

MA angler looking for fishing buddy
i don't have a boat, but i'd get together to do some fishing some time. i live about 30 minutes west of worcester but i'd travel to do some fishing. if you want to hit up the quabbin this year, which i would highly recommend, pm me and we can set something up. i guess that place is unreal during the spawn. my sisters boyfriend said last spawn he was pulling 3-4lb smallies out on every other cast. i've seen the pictures, too.

Northeast 2008 Free Fishing Days
you should check out the sudbury reservoir, too. it's shore fishing only i guess (i've never been) but my sister and her boyfriend go a lot and they bang out some decent sized smallies.

Ice fishing
only been out once so far. went out on long pond off rt 122 in rutland last sunday. i went with my sister and her boyfriend, they're my fishing buddies. we caught 5 bass, the biggest around 1lb, 3 perch which were all decent sized for around here, and 1 pickerel. with the exception of spots near or around channels, the ice was between 5" and 7" thick at each hole.

Lightning rod Problem

3rd Annual BassResource.com Roadtrip!!!
i'm going to look into it. as of right now i have zero information on how to even get my plane ticket. the ex-gf booked the flight and everything, i just gave her the cash for the ticket, and now i'm stuck not knowing a single thing about how to even redeem it, or even what airline it's for. i emailed her after making that last post asking her to send me whatever info she can, hopefully she'll get back to me soon.

Any one from or fish in CT
i'm in the same "boat" you are (get it?), stuck fishing from shore. i've got a couple little sweet spots up here that i've pulled 2-5lbers out of, usually catching a couple 1-2lbers each time i go. just google map'd danbury, ct. that's a haul from where i'm at, but it looks like lake candlewood would be a good spot to go. what's the acreage on candlewood?

3rd Annual BassResource.com Roadtrip!!!
this trip is very tempting. i actually have an unused plane ticket from a cancelled trip i had to california with an ex-girlfriend that i need to use before april (i think...) of this year, and i'm pretty sure i can exchange it for any flight. i'm not sure where i could even fly into or how i'd get to the lake and surrounding area, but i'm going to look into it. anyone else from MA going to this?

LBH, what size tierra do you use?

Another "I Need some help/opinions on reel selection" thread...
i'm not really looking to "save" money, considering i'm willing to shell out anywhere from $100-$200 for a decent reel, but if i can find a reel for cheaper than retail i wouldn't be upset. i won't be buying the reel until spring time anyways, after getting the HMG i've got to save up for the reel, and everything's frozen over here in MA anyways so the tip-ups are priority right now. is the magnesium stradic worth the extra money compared to the regular stradic? actually i guess the question should really be is the 1/2oz difference in weight worth the extra cash? is it that noticeable? i guess i'll have to try to find a store that has one of each in stock to try out on the HMG.

Another "I Need some help/opinions on reel selection" thread...
I know this question has been beat to death on here, but I'm looking to get some help from the faithful BR crew for my next reel purchase. As you can see I've got a bunch of reels in mind, and while I can get my hands on most of them at various stores, some I can't. That's where you come in. I'd like to hear opinions/advice/ribbing for making another "what reel should i get" thread/suggestions on what would be the best reel for my new rod. I just picked up a Fenwick HMG AV 6' MF rod the other day (Merry Christmas to me). I've been using a Fenwick Eagle GT 6'6" paired with a Pflueger President 35x as my primary rod for senkos and other soft plastics. I'm planning on using the HMG in lieu of the GT, and while I love the President, on the HMG it almost feels too heavy and oversized. I'd like to get a nice light reel to pair with the HMG. I've used a Shimano Sonora ($40 from Wally World) a lot, and I like everything about Shimano, but I'd also like to hear opinions on the other reels listed. I like the looks of the BPS Johnny Morris reel, with the shorter, wider diameter spool, but I haven't heard much about BPS's products so I'm a little hesitant on that one. I love my Pflueger and everything I've read on here about the Supreme seems to be pretty positive. I've seen a few "Pflueger vs. Shimano" threads that all pretty much come to the conclusion that the Supreme is equally comparable to the Symetre and other Shimano's in that price range. The Supreme 8030 weighs in at 7.4oz and the 8035 is 8.8oz, while the Symetre weighs in at 9.5oz for the 1500 and 2500 (taken from their respective sites). Weight alone has me leaning more towards another Pflueger, but I'd like to hear some opinions on this one. I've got zero knowledge on Daiwa, Quantum and Abu stuff other than what I've read on here and heard from other people, so any enlightenment on those products would be appreciated. Also, if there are any other decent reels in that price range that I should consider feel free to let me know. Except for Mitchell, I will never buy a Mitchell reel again. I had one for all of 4 hours before I returned it and got the President instead. Sorry again for making another thread like this, but I'm no expert and I know there are a lot of guys on here that can offer some really good opinions and advice. And I know it really just comes down to whatever feels best to me, but I could use some help deciding. Thanks in advance everyone.

Do the hooks hurt the fish?
a funny little quote from that article... how hard did she yank on that hook that it pulled the fish's guts out through it's mouth? i've gut hooked my fair share of fish and not once have i ever pulled one's insides out, nor have i ever even heard of that happening.

What is your states record smallie?
MA's state record is 8-2 out of the wachusett reservoir, which also holds state records for white perch, landlocked salmon, and brown, lake, and rainbow trout.
