Largemouth Bass - Nature's Most Perfect Killing Machine
Hilarious ;D "In short, never let your children swim in Largemouth Bass infested lakes and rivers. While a Largemouth Bass has never been officially implicated in any drowning incident in U.S. waters, I'm pretty sure that they are responsible for virtually all of them." "Have you ever wondered why Great White Sharks live in the ocean? It's because they know fresh water is inhabited by Largemouth Bass." A super-agitated Largemouth Bass prepares to go on a rampage and kill every living thing within a four-mile radius.

Check out my favorite spot (NEW question)
WTRDOG - I've never seen that many points in my life. Looks pretty awesome In my pond the rocky areas are 99% smallmouth, and the weedy areas are about 75% largemouth. The stumpfields are about 50/50. The main forage is baitfish, little lizards (newts or salamanders or something), and bugs . I'm sure there are crawfish too, but I've never seen any. There are millions of those little lizards.

Bass off in CT
Nothin' but dinks here. It's depressing. Almost bad enough for me to take a several day break from fishing.

Check out my favorite spot (NEW question)
What types of unique presentations can you guys suggest to fish this place? I'm going up in mid-September and am looking for ideas. By far the most productive bait on this lake is a quick retrieve with a white X-Rap. Bigger fish tactics?

Check out my favorite spot (NEW question)
Hey guys, I just cut and pasted an image from maps.live.com of my favorite freshwater fishery and addes some labels. It's a little New England pond with an abundance of perfect structure, and it's an amazing smallmouth fishery. I've had 70+ fish days on this pond in my float tube, all while seeing maybe a couple other people all day. I haven't caught any monsters, but there are tons of smallmouth in the 1-2 pound range that are willing to take any offering, and I've caught largemouth up to 3.5 lbs. My PB crappie (just under 2 lbs) came from this pond as well. There's nothing better than fishing this lake in my float tube or pontoon, gaining confidence in lures or techniques I've never used. It has a lot of shorefishing access too when I don't feel like lugging my tube/toon up the mountain to get there. I know of the stump fields and a lot of the underwater structure because the first time I fished it, the water was down 15 ft 8-) Water visibility is 15+ feet for most of the year. The only time it's less clear is during the fall turnover. What do you think?

tips on how to approach new lake
I'd try a tube with a heavy internal weight (that hangs off the hook shoulder), t-rigged. Skips well for a heavy bait, and it's one of my favorite baits for matted grass. It punches through very well, and is maybe the most weedless lure I've ever used 8-)

JJ's magic
I've wondered about that too...if JJ's is too strong. I really don't know one way or the other, but I will say that just because you were getting bites without it and didn't get bites with it doesn't mean JJ's was repelling them. There are too many variables to factor

Ever go up to a stranger's house and ask to fish their pond/lake?
HOLY CRAP! Thank you for the maps.live.com...that site is WAY more detailed than google earth. Amazing ;D

mattlures bluegill: 1 cast, 1 nice fish, 1 big mistake.
Paul, are you sure it was the braid that sliced the tail off? I'm trying to think how that could happen - if the tail came around to make contact with the line, the hook point would have had to be pointing away from you, which would mean a lost fish, most likely...

Bending the Barb
This was the first thread I ever started on the site: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1189202496/0 I would not bend the barb on treble-hooked lures if I were you. You will lose more fish. But for single hooks, as long as you keep the pressure and fight the fish well, I believe it makes no difference in the number of fish landed. 8-)

Dead sticking a fluke?
Try deadsticking a YUM Houdini Shad, and don't alter the tail (leave that rubber piece in the middle). If you center the hook so that the bait falls horizontally, the tail slowly wiggles back and forth. The action is pretty unbelievable

Bait ideas for dock skipping?
x2 on the plastic toad. It skips exceedingly well, and how many times do you think dock bass have had a toad thrown at them? Probably never. It's pretty exciting getting a topwater hit under a dock Although I've never tried it, you could also rig it with a weighted EWG hook and swim it a foot or more under the surface. Probably my favorite skipping bait, along with stickbaits, is the GYCB Kreature. It skips like a dream and you can dead stick it, twitch it, or swim it with great results.

Personal Best!
Beautiful fat fish there IMO, it's not a 7 though, unless your hands are huge. I'd guess between 4 & 5. Either way, great fish and story.

My Nightmare Came True Today
That's a great idea 8-) Another thing you can try - it will probably work better for your lures though - is to buy one of those super-powerful magnets and drag it around the area. They're easily strong enough to grab lures by their hooks, so it may be a good investment... Sorry to hear that rondef - that sucks.

Last Day of Summer
Lol I do that..but I do it everyday (saavedra dont you say a word...) I thought only girls did that. ;D Back in the day, I'd take my clothes from a pile in the floor, smell it and throw it against the wall. If it didn't stick, I could wear it another day! I made a lot of great friends in college, but my best friend, by far, was Febreeze

bass fishing lure line up, 1 to 10
Looks pretty good - you really don't need three different brands of toads though. Any one of those will do - I prefer Cane toads. I could do without the scum frog as well, but I do know some people like those. I haven't really heard anything about the KVD jerkbaits, but they don't look that good. I think you'd be better off with X-Raps or Husky Jerks, but again, I haven't used the KVD ones so I'm not sure. I know for a fact that I saw KVD using jerkbaits other than his brand in an Elite event. The Booyah Pond Magic spinnerbaits are true to their name - great pond baits. Make sure you let them dry well after use, however, or the blades won't turn properly the next time. I think you could use some jigs, some creature baits, and some soft jerkbaits, but otherwise, looks pretty nice

Red worm hooks ?
The awesome thing about red hooks is that they DISAPPEAR underwater! I also use red line because it simulates blood. ;D Seriously, I don't think you'll notice a difference among red, black, silver, or gold hooks. You may think you do, but when you think about it, we think a lot of things, I think

Rapala's X-Rap
That's my favorite technique - the super-fast erratic retrieve for the first half of the cast to catch their attention, then slow it down just a bit with pauses so they're able to hit it. If you run into some active smallmouth you could catch more during the first half of the cast Earlier this summer I was at my favorite smallie pond in NH experimenting with retrieve speed. I was literally reeling and twitching an X-Rap as fast as I could without pulling it out of the water, and the smallmouth were still able to nail the bait. Unbelievable.

do you kiss your fish?
Usually just nice smallmouth. They're better kissers, and IMO, sexier :-*

Corny jokes
Wow that's so incredibly dumb that it's hilarious ;D What's red and goes up and down? A tomato in an elevator.

WaddaYa Think of this !!
Good job man! That was a good read ;D

Reely kool !
I don't like those little flames on top. IMO, it makes the reel look cheap, which it obviously is not

Zara Spook Pooch
I'm sure Cabela's or BPS has them on their sites. How small are these smallies by the way? I've caught 6-8 inch smallmouth on Zara Puppies, so unless you really really want the pooch, you might want to use the Puppy. Another thing to consider: I have a pooch, and it's really tough to get it to walk correctly. The action really isn't that great, so if you're looking for a very small topwater, you might want to consider another option. For example, a little popper or a little jitterbug. Your best bet might be to fly fish for them - those little smallmouth LOVE bugs ;D

Rebel Pop-R
Also, make sure you're not using flourocarbon line. If you are, the line will sink, and as you pop the lure, the line will pull the bait downward instead of forward.
