To do the best job get you a brand name double action. Practice, practice, practice. Different brands, especially the cheaper ones will limit you on the detail. There are tons on ebay.

you have a lot better stuff than I ever had at your age. Heck most of if was not even made when I was your age. LOL. One sugestion would be to upgrade one or two casting rods to a medium heavy instead of the medium. JMO.

Get you some Trilene Big Game and see how you like it. I switched many years ago and like it a lot. Use the green instead of the clear.

It should. What type of blank or rod is it? I use a 7' Allstar MH with a fast tip. Try to keep the rod and reel as light(Weight wise) as possible. You will need one that will give you some feel. Some of the heavier rods have no feel and you may have problems detecting the strike. I personally do not care for a heavy rod. Seems I lose to much feeling and casting suffers. JMO.
