  1. From a different perspective, I own a lake that has a bridge and road crossing it, and there is a liability issue involved. About 30 years ago someone trespassing, drinking and fishing fell and cut his hand. My family had to pay several thousand dollars plus legal fees. I never allow anyone to fish there even tho technically the county ownes the road and bridge. I would probably allow a disabled individual fish somewhere else if they asked first, but as it is now its not safe to fish from the bridge. I would even assist a DV. If you or anyone else just showed up and started fishing I would run you off. It may be there is a new owner and he deserves the respect of knowledge of your fishing and his ability to give permission. Let me also say that in many cases the agent that informed you that you don't need permission doesn't know WTH hes talking about.
  2. Not at all. I normally start with a 5'-6' leader. Just put the keeper on the leader for a long-6' or short -6" "c-rig".
  3. ^^^^ And don't forget to put the plug in. (voice of experience speaking)
  4. I am going to buy a spinning reel (President probably) to use with a MOJO rig. ie light carolina rig, 1/16oz weight 2/0 light wire hook. To drag on top of bottom weeds. I would also like to use it skipping under docks. Would a MH rod be too heavy for the MJ rig. I think it will do for the skipping. Oh I can, and do, skip with a bait caster but it does backlash. Don't think I can effectively fish the mojo with the bait caster but I do hate spinning reels, not gonna get 2 of them.
  5. My wife put this together, thought yall might like. Thats me and best friend
  6. Try the Piedmont Nat. Wildlife Refuge near Macon Ga. They have several ponds that they allow fishing. One or two even allow boating. (no gas I am sure tho)
  7. What is the trailer you are using on this?
  8. WARNING STEER CLEAR. I am friggin ruint!!! A couple of months ago I decided to try Jiggs after Texas rigging forever. Ordered a few from Northstar and the Storm series from SO---------BIGG Mistake After catching them---and bigger ones on almost every jigg I tried I spent most of the rainy day yesterday on their sites trying to figure out what and how many to order. d**n Siebert I just cant fish em all at the same time. The OOMOD and Long Mike appear to be KILLER swim baits. Fished them last week instead of a spinner bait and THEY WORKED. Nothhstars Black series Is great too. Now I just gotta decide how much to allocate to jigs-trailers and which ones to buy.
  9. Sounds like a connection problem to me. Had the same problem and was just as frustrated as you. Turned out to be the connection at the battery. Check that out too, especially if you're using alligator type clips.
  10. Doesn't look to me like the "buzzers" will spin.
  11. Rage Craw a sponsor on this site. Also Net bait Paca Craw
  12. Good luck on that insurance. A drunk driver early am and leaving the scene spells no insurance also.
  13. WOW didn't realize when this episode actually was. It was during hurricane "Sandy". An elimination round and AJ was the only one to get to 20 lbs. I think he caught a 7 pounder to go out with over 25 lbs.
  14. Yeah he really smoked them, and ran away with the tourney--that day anyway.
  15. Thanks Brian but it didn't appear to be a texas rigg. Do you know how it was rigged?
  16. What kind of rigg was Alton Jones using in this weeks Major League Fishing? It looked like a really heavy MOJO rigg or a really short carolina rigg with a 1-2 oz weight. It kinda looks like it may work to me. Especially in mucky bottoms. The bait stays off the bottom. But wouldn't a short drop-shot work just as well or better?
  17. The Owner EWG plus hooks helped a lot. Got 80-90% hookups with the horney toad and 70-75% with the rage toad. Caught 28 this pm 1.5 -3.5 lbs mostly 2 pounders. Good afternoon fishing. The 3.5 was caught on a jig. Just started fishing them this year. 5 total on the jig.
  18. Same problem here. I was using Gamagatsu EWG 4/0 & 5/0 hooks with the rage toad. Getting less then 1 in 5 hookups. Got a little better with the zoom horney toad but really dont like the action as well. Yesterday I got some Owner Wide gap plus 5/0 & 4/0s Tried the 5/0s and was 3/3 with the zoom. 0/1 with the rage tail but to be fair it was a long distance hook up and didnt think I got a good hook up on it anyway. Limited trial I know but am gonna stick with it for a while and give the Owner hooks with the rage toad a fair shot.
  19. New convert to jig fishing. Been a die hard texas rigg fisherman forever, but after 2 4 pounders in a honey hole that usually produces 1-2 pounders max- Gonna fish a jigg a LOT. How is the best way to trim the weed guard? I cut it at an angle with the longest end on bottom but feel that with long end on top would be better a weedless configuration. How far past point do you trim it? I have been leaving it 1/8-1/16" just past the hook (covering the hook). Or do you cut it short of the tip of hook? I know there is a video or article on this but can't find it, Thanks
  20. Its not a myth around here and the Southeast. I really don't think I can afford one of those tools you linked to tell my the water temp, DO and other items available with some dept finders. BTW yesterday it was 65 degrees on the pond I fish most.
  21. The dogwoods are blooming and that means the bass are bedding and the turkeys are gobbling. SO torn between them. Just not enuf time in the day ths time of the year
  22. Most of the replies here have been because of the ability to "hoss" one out of the thick weeds. This is absolutely correct but its also the control of the cast. A bait caster is a "caster" of the bait. A spinning reel is a "chunker" of the bait. With the bait caster you can "work" the bait in flight left or right, long or short. With a spinning reel the only thing you can do is stop it. YMO
  23. Thanks guys. I'll be trying it out. Any trouble with heavy mono 20#+??
  24. Any of you guys use this knot? I am looking for a knot with the tag end towards the hook, away from the rod. Normally I use the polamar or uni knot. The tag end winds up forming a "grass hook" and I'm fishing a lot of "fine" grass. I really want to try Flukes "MoJo" rig and thin this may help with the snagging grass problem. I know that you can hide the knot in soft plastics, and I do, But just the act of casting tends to pull the eye out of the worm, and you can't hide the knot using a jig or other hard baits.
  25. Your measurement of 20-21" is typical for a 5 lb bass. An "average" healthy bass 22" long would weigh just over 6 lbs. Nice fish there and I'm sure you will catch one for the books soon. GL
