  1. No, it didn't start yet. I believe the first day of the FLW series Table Rock tournament is tomorrow.
  2. John, I fish quite a bit for stripers. I have caught them on chicken live, crankbaits, topwaters, and jerkbaits. The two best ways I catch them are either a) chasing shad schools around and when they start busting throw a topwater in the school or wade the flats at 1-3am and fish until light using plugs. If you have any ambition to go for them I would take you to Beltzville during springtime at night. The way I catch them is not the most popular way, but it works when I want to get them.
  3. Did anyone pick him for their FLW fantasy team?
  4. I wish we could do a count of out of the 20,000 how many times the AC66MF, yo zuri hybrid, and Shimano was mentioned. If I could guess a number I would guess 8,000.
  5. If you could only have 5 colors in crankbaits what would you choose. Mine are: 1. White 2. Craw 3. Tennessee Shad 4. Fire-tiger 5. Chartreuse Shad
  6. lol oh boy now I am on the list. I use mostly 7' rods and my flipping stick is 7'6. I am also 5'6. What problem are you having?
  7. Penn State Student and unemployed since Sunday.
  8. Yea, I have contacted him before about job information. I am going to PM him about this, because it has been in my mind for awhile there needs to be some light shed on it for me. My prof's are some of the best fisheries biologists in the nation as well. They don't do work with bass though. The one works with Africa Cichlids, and the other primarily works with the Lake Trout fishery.
  9. That is some interesting insight fluke. I see what your saying and I agree with some of it. I stated that I think that it varies with regions. I am sure warm and cold water have different effects on spawning fish. I couldn't tell you which does what or how, but overall I don't think catching and release spawning fish is beneficial. I am not saying it has a large impact, but I think it does have an impact. Fish have a large fecundancy (sp.?). Say there are 15,000 eggs and only 3000 eggs produce fry. The 3000 fry which is a fragile state need to survive and continue to decrease until they reach a certain size. Some ways that catching and releasing bass could have a negative effect on the spawn -Stress on female resulting in less eggs -Removing males from the bed -Males losing energy resulting in having a hard time defending the bed. These are just a few I thought of. If there are a large amount of anglers catching and releasing the bass, and it does have an effect then even a small amount of egg loss can have a large effect. Suppose that by catching and releasing spawning fish it loses 50 eggs. In 3 fish caught and released you would lose 1 fingerling. Say it takes 150 eggs to get 1 fish to the fingerling state. This is all said with no research done, but just how I think of it. I voiced how I felt now you can all rip me apart. The numbers are made up for the most part, but I believe 15,000 is high end to the amount of eggs. I would be interested in some of the biologists views.
  10. As I know some will, but I can't picture the majority of them agreeing with it. I think it depends a lot of region as well. I don't think there are too many studies done on angler effect on spawning fish either. If anyone knows of any articles I have access to over 100 databases. I was looking last night for quite awhile.
  11. Really? I would like to see the backing for this comment. Any fisheries biologists on here? Paul Roberts and insight?
  12. Lucky Craft Pointer > Xcrap You just can't beat prespawn jerkbaiting.
  13. Unless it is a really low gear ratio your options are open in my opinion. You could even get away with a 7.0:1.
  14. My pockets aren't very deep lately. I will be losing my job on Sunday. I came out of BPS like a champ... only spent $8 on a lure knocker. I was checking out some frog rod threads and many people said they like the dobyns 735 or 736. On TW which rod is that? http://www.***.com/descpageDCASTROD-DCCT.html There is something about a 7'6 rod that makes you want to rip the lips off of those bass. I will def. try to let up on the hookset. Good advice tyrius.
  15. Well I'm not going to let the idiot comment hide my opinion. I think he's entertaining
  16. I am in a computer lab bored out of my mind. Below I listed what rods and reels I have from memory. I also added the specific technique I use with the combo. What would you suggest that I get to complete my selection. Casting Chronarch 51mg -(Cumara 6'8 MH in the mail)- small jigs/trig Shimano citica 200? -St. Croix avid 6'6 med fast- cranks Revo S -Quantum tour edition PT 7'6 heavy xtra fast- fllipping/pitching/frogs Pfleuger trion -fish eagle II 6'6 med fast-cranks Spinning Stradic 2500 FH -St Croix Avid 7' med fast- poppers/walk the dog baits/jerkbaits Generic 6' spinning cheaper shimano reel- light weight to weightless plastics My thoughts I would like to get a dropshot setup that I could also use to replace my lightweight and weightless plastics. I would also like to get a frog specific setup. This past year I used my flipping stick for everything from punching mats to frogging. Usually when I am flipping mats or frogging I would like to have both options without retying. I also want to use braid only with frogs and use a heavy mono for flipping/pitching. Last year I was breaking off 55lb power pro on the hookset when I was pitching beavers into slop. I think it was due to the lack of stretch of the line and the torque on the hookset. Any thoughts?
  17. Guilty It was nice to put some faces to these names and personalities!
  18. I have caught fish on many of the lures you guys mentioned. A few of the mentioned lures produce a lot of my fish like the spook in bone color or the cavitron buzzbait. Oh and for the record the banjo minnow is AMAZING compared to the flying lure. The flying lure is bad... starving fish wouldn't touch that lure.
  19. I will be seeing that... luckiest guy ever..... ;D
  20. That and ipods.... Here at Penn State we have some beautiful women, but how easy it to approach them when they have electronics in their ears 24/7. Maybe its done on purpose? Sneaky women..... :-/
  21. I feel you guys... Muddy put me on a program that gets you out of the seasonal funk.
  22. For you guys who travel further distances. How did you hear about the shop?
  23. What is the furthest distance you would drive for tackle? What is your favorite part of your favorite tackle shop? Is it the free coffee? Is it the selection? The pricing?
