  1. Alright fellas. I have been fishing this pond during the week when im not on the lake on the weekend. I have been catching 3 lbers all day and a couple of 5's. I lost one a while ago that I know was bigger than 5# so I know there are bigger fish than what I am consistently catching. I want to try tossing some swimbaits in there to see if I can pull something big out of there. I really dont know where to start as far as size and specific swimbaits. Can yall recommend a few for me that I can get at TW when I make my order friday? Thanks in advance yall! -JP
  2. I hope if you move it all works out for the best. I would just be very careful moving to a small city for 1 job. If for some reaosn it didnt work out, there wouldnt be many other choices.
  3. They may be sharper than my Gamakatsu hooks, I really dont know. But my Gamakatsu hooks have never failed me. I will not pay that much for a pack of hooks, IMO its ridiculous. They spent so much money on their flashy clown commercials I guess they have to make their money back somehow. A rod that turns into a light saber? Seriously? Its a d**n fishing hook.
  4. I love my Red Eye Shad But for some reason fish can not resist the Chrome/blue back 1/2 Rat-L-Trap. This lure alone will keep the skunk off most of the time unless it is dead winter. Might not be a LMB but SOMETHING will hit it!
  5. I have a 6'6" MH/F BPS Graphite Series spinning rod paired up with a Sedona that I USED to use for skipping jigs. I am making the transition to skipping with a baitcaster so I dont really use it much anymore but I have no regrets about buying it and would buy another if I needed too. I think you would be very happy with it. If you are looking for another President BPS has a combo right now on sale that is a Pflueger President and BPS Graphite Series rod for 70$. Good luck!-JP

I understand the basics of jig skipping with a baitcaster. I practiced for a while last time I was out and did so so. I am curious to see what type jig head yall are using for skipping? I have watched GMAN do it like he invented it with a Ball head Finesse jig. Any suggestions that you think might help are appreciated. Thanks guys. -JP
  7. The more erratic the better IMO. 2 hard twitches then a good 10 second pause, 1 hard twitch then 2 soft twitches then a 7 second pause etc etc. Have fun with. Flukes are hard to mess up when fish are actively feeding. I think the worst thing you could do would be to just cast and retrieve. 99% of my fluke strikes come at the end of the pause just before I start to move the bait again. Good luck! -JP
  8. Yes. He frequently shops at the same Walmart I do.
  9. Nice fish but that plate of food looks better since I haven't eaten lunch yet!
  10. Spinnerbait, KVD 1.5, jig and red eye Shad in that order. super fluke deserves to be mentioned as well.
  11. I didn't even realize it didn't say swim jig. I guess I assumed that's what the op was talking about. My fault lol. MIBassin, where you curious about swim jigs vs spinnerbaits or just any jig in general?
  12. There is no mercy in football. If you can win 100 - 0 I'm cool with that. They work to hard to be forgiving on the football field. If the opponent isn't prepared or as talented then don't step on the field.
  13. Rage tail all day. baby craw, craw, lobster, menace and grub.
  14. I dont see how you can have a bad hookset. Its either in or out, there is no inbetween. I know the top lip is the ideal spot. But as far as penetration goes, IMO, its either hooked or not. I would bet a paycheck that the hookset is not the problem. If you are hooking the fish enough to begin reeling her in then that is not your problem. You may not be keeping enough tension on the line and she is shaking free. like previously mentioned sometimes the fish will dart straight at you creating slack and thats when the fish will shake free. Keep tension on the line and reel like heck if your rod is not loaded up and you know there is a fish on the end. Like MarkH024 said, its not a great white with 5 1/2 inches of mouth to penetrate. Good luck and TIGHT LINES! -JP
  15. Go to Google and type in "Black Ninja". When the drop down box appears, hover over black ninja and click "im feeling lucky"......Your welcome.
  16. I would try a large swimbait if your looking for a larger lady. Otherwise I would throw a weightless Super Fluke around the vegetation. Fish it slow. Flukes are killers in the ponds I fish that have alot of veg. Good luck! -JP
  17. Chunks can be rigged anyway that you want really. You can run it up the hook like in Matstone7's picture or you can just poke it through the fat part of the chunk and let it sit at the bend of the hook for a larger presentation. I hardly ever use chunks but thats just my preference. Experiment both ways!
  18. Yes and no.You can throw a swim jig in open water successfully like a SB. I use Swim jigs different than most I think. I dont use large trailers. Some use small swimbaits as trailers and swim them in open water. I prefer something smaller like a Rage Grub or Baby Craw or Rage Menace and fish them fairly shallow. There are TONS of ways to fish a swim jig. It all depends on who, what, when, where and why. All of those factors are determined by the waters you fish in. 1 thing I can say is try not to over complicate it. It is easy for us to tell you what works and how to use them but what works for me in my waters may not work for you in yours. This is where experience and time on the water come in to play. Experiment with what you like and think may work. If it doesnt, try a different trailer or different color etc. Good luck! -JP
  19. Keeping Bass never even crossed my mind when I started fishing, and still hasnt to this day. Releasing my catch has always been like breathing, you just do it. Its funny hearing it from the opposite perspective.
  20. And THAT is truly unbeatable!
  21. Never saw or heard that part of the day. Awesome video, thanks for posting.
  22. Yours AND mine as far as Rage Tail baits go.
  23. His question is far from vague. He is looking for input and or your personal experiences with both lures. Spinnerbaits shine in low light/ staind water. Fish are attracted by the blades shine and vibration without being able to see what it is clearly. Swim jigs IMO are better in more clear water since it is more of a natural look without all of the wire and blades. They are also better at navigating through vegetation and heavier cover because there are no blades to get tangled up. I will fish a SB in more open and shallow water where I am throwing near targets and cover. If it is an overcast day in the fall I will throw a spinnerbait more than any other lure on the boat. I generally use a 1/4- 3/8 oz and dont fish them any deeper than 1-4 ft. Thats just how I fish them successfully. Some people slow roll them in 20 ft of water. I will throw a Swim Jig when I am actually casting into cover or into some weeds or stick ups because like I mentioned previously, it doesnt get hung up and I can swim it through much easier without having to pick off weeds and junk after every retrieve. The thing I like about swim jigs too is if i am just drifting along throwing near the bank and I roll up on a stump or dock, I can take the jig and flip it under and around that specific piece of cover and if nothing ise there go right back to swimming it. Cant really do that with a spinnerbait. This is just how I fish both baits. Not everyone uses their tools the same. Good luck! -JP
  24. At exactly 100$ the PQ is unbeatable. Buy it, you won't regret it for a second.
