  1. Gotta love the senkos! Weightless and wacky or t rigged is always a producer for me. The BPS brand is not bad as a "knock off", but the Yum Dinger is the closest to the real deal IMO. I also like the Strike king Shim e sticks that you can get at Wally world for like 2.50. Either way, nice fish! jake
  2. I would stop worrying about the life of the plastic your using. It is after all plastic. 1-3 fish is all i expect from any plastic lure, it is just something i expect so when it does become unfishable it doesnt bother me. If your looking for quality in design and action i would take a look at Rage Tail's line. The baby craws, craws and lobsters are awesome as jig trailers or thrown T rigged. The action is unmatched by any other IMO. They also have a few "creature" type baits. The rage hawg is great and so is the space monkey.
  3. Wetting the knot is a must. Like previously mentioned, it will "burn" the line causing it to weaken and your line to break. I slobber on it like an english bulldog when tying just to be safe. If you feel any tension when pulling the knot tight, you have probably compromised the line strength. I would cut and retie. Also, i use the Palomar knot 100% of the time and have never had a break at the knot or any point in my line for that matter. I too use Yo zuri in 6-8 lbs and 12-15
  4. Corpus is not bad. You can do some Gulf fishing. The food is good if you like seafood of course. I think you would like it in Texas. You are used to HOT summers being overseas so that wont be new to you. Alot of people move here and dont realize it gets 115 in the summer and stays that way for sometimes months. Last year it was 3 months over 100 and i even saw it up to 119. Like sam said, the people are very friendly and it is an all around great state to live in. Just make sure when you get here to not tell people your a Yank right away, let em warm up to you a bit first lol.
  5. Monster crappie!
  6. That thing looks like a mutant giant spider. Im out!
  7. My brother in law works on an oil field here in the north texas area. He travels all over TX and LA actually. There are a ton around here though. If you pay your dues you can make a living thats for sure. I know my Brother in law is making right about 100k, but hes been in it for 7 years. Half of my family in West texas roughneck also. Like Long mike said, it is WORK! My cousin wanted to get me on in Odessa with him and explained the job and work, and it aint no joke.
  8. With any bait that has Treble hooks a nice firm side sweeping hookset has always worked fine for me. The key to landing a fish on trebles is constant pressure with the rod. Power isnt as important as action when fishing treble hooks IMO. Medium or medium heavy will work fine as long as you are throwing lures with a weight that is suggested for that particular rod. Does the rod your using have a Fast action? If so, try getting a rod with a Moderate action or Mod-fast action if possible. This will allow the rod to have a parabolic bend which will allow you to use the whole rod to play the fish, versus just the tip of the rod with a fast action rating. Hope this helps! Good luck!
  9. I know its Flouro and it is going to have memory issues, i have KVD L&L for that. But, is this stuff any good? I never hear good nor bad things about it so im curious who uses and loves it or who hates it?
  10. Nice fish and pics. I have never thrown a true swimbait like a hudd. I dont feel like the waters i get to have large enough bass to hit it.
  11. Plan on getting out to Fork this month before the TX heat hits and im looking for some words of wisdom from some of yall who are in the know. Where to launch, where to fish etc. Thanks yall!
  12. Las Colinas has more than a few for sure. Where exactly are you at in north dallas, if you dont mind? I know the mtroplex better than the back of my hand. Or how far are you willing to drive? Ray roberts is one of the better lakes in Texas but im not sure about bank fishing there. You might be better off sticking to ponds or small lakes. If you can let me know where you are or where you would be willing to drive to i might be able to help you a little better!! Good luck! Message me and i will give you some spots i bank fish from that are on average 35-45 minutes from the North Dallas area.
  13. Music is a big part of my life. I listen to just about everything. I drive sometimes 60 hours a week so music fills most of the time im on the road. I am big on blues, country, and hard rock/ metal. My favorite though would have to be staind. Closely followed by Metallica and Pantera. Some other honorable mentions are Godsmack, Linkin Park, Slipknot, Muddy waters, Stevie Ray Vaughn, George Jones, Hank williams (Sr and Jr), Jamey johnson, Pat green or any Texas country for that matter.Garth Brooks and 50 others. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/jVVmsxR67ZE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/oiExHrVXmtE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Cxpi2M38dAM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-u-HCHCuHMg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/dXtWL0G3dmk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  14. I love Texas too much, i had to pick Fork. Although now that i think about it i would rather catch some smallies in erie. Never been smallie fishing and i live 2 hours from fork. Yep, Erie it is!
  15. I love a cold beer any day of the week. I have a few favorites but i drink many different kinds. I have been on a Modelo Especial kick lately. Usually it is Corona though. If i am going domestic i will have a miller lite or coors light. Miller highlife is a favorite as well. What about yall?
  16. Cant believe i forgot to add this link! The Senko is a fish catching machine!!! The most effective way to fish a senko is weightless either t rigged or wacky rigged. It has a unique fall when fished weightless that is irresistable to bass. I cast it out and let it sink to the bottom, wait a few seconds and then slowly lift your rod up from 6 o clock to 12 o clock and then let it fall back down on a semi slack line. It basically fishes itself! Deadstick it for a while cause thats when most of your strikes will come.
  17. Cast out your worm and let it sink to the bottom, like previously mentioned, the line will form a "belly" when it is at rest on the bottom. I just leave the spool dis-engaged until it stops and then when i know it has reached the bottom i engage the spool. The rest is up to you and the fish! Raise the tip of your rod with a couple of pops and let it sink back to the bottom. When you let it sink make sure you reel up the slack line so you maintain contact with your worm. Try different variations of movement like 3 pops and then let it sink, or 2 pops and a pause and 2 more then let it sink. There really is no wrong way and the fish will let you know what they like. 2 very important things when fishing a worm for me are, 1. After you give the worm a couple of hops and let it sink back to the bottom, let it sit for a few seconds. I always wait atleast 5 seconds before working it again. Almost all of my strikes come after i let it sit still for a couple of seconds. 2. WATCH YOUR LINE ALWAYS. Today 3 different fish hit and i did not feel a thing but i saw my line moving away from me and set the hook. Sometimes you will not feel the bite at all. Good luck!!!
  18. Im not looking for the kit, just that specific worm in its own package. I could careless about the others. Like i said though, i doubt it is still made. I cant even find them on Luckestrike.com
  19. If I was stoned this would be incredibly trippy. Seriously though that is pretty cool. It really makes you think......
  20. Oh dang, You have an eye for nature my brutha!!
  21. I got this Luck E Strike plastics kit for Christmas a looooong time ago and have never even looked twice at it until i ran accross it last night digging through some stuff in the garage. There is a worm in here that i used today when i stopped after work and the fish were absolutely smashing it. I cant find it anywhere online including the Luck E Strike website itself. Im assuming theyre not making it anymore? Basspro has a luck e strike worm that is just about the same except it has a paddletail and the one i was using today does not. I circled the one in red in the picture below. Anyone familiar with these? Thanks guys!
  22. Welcome to BR! You can certainly learn all you need to know here. You can read the articles section and watch all of the informational and how to movies as well. There is so much to learn but start with the basics for now. First off, how much are you wanting to spend on tackle, rods and reels? There are items at every price point that can be affective. I would start out with a spinning combo first. I suggest a 2500 size reel and 7 ft Medium Heavy fast action rod. You will need some line too, i would suggest something in the 10# range. This will be a nice all around setup to get you started with the basics. Of course if you can afford or want to buy more than one setup, this would change a bit. But i think 1 setup is enough to get you started and comfortable. Now buying lures can be a headache cause there are so many. Keep it simple for now. 5" senkos in watermelon or green pumpkin and 3/0 gamakatsu ewg hooks 2 lipless crankbaits in 1/4 or 1/2 oz. I like rattle traps or cotton cordel super spots, both in a chrome color. These can be purchased at wal mart. The rattle traps are 6 bucks and the super spots are 3 each. 2 spinnerbaits in 1/4 oz or 3/8 oz. White and/or chartreuse color will work. some form of worm whether it be a straight tail or ribbon tail. For straight tails i like the zoom trick worm. For ribbon tails i like the rage tail anacondas in 7" to name a couple. You can use a 3/0 hook with these also. Get some bullet sinkers in 1/8 oz and 1/4 oz. You will Texas rig these worms and fish them on the bottom. These are 4 lures that i fish frequently with success every time. That is why i suggest them. The options are unlimitet but this can get you started. As far as a tackle box goes, i prefer plano storage boxes stored inside a tackle bag. But if you want something cheaper and a little more fitting for the time being you can get a simple tackle box at walmart. I would make sure you have a set of needle nose pliers as well just incase you have problms removing a hook. They are a must have for me anytime. If your wondering how to fish each lure, you can either use the search function and browse the forums and read posts about each lure or you can search through the articles posted in the articles section and it will give you a better understanding as to how to fish each specific lure and where to fish it. I would strongly suggest focusing on the senko for starters as they are proven fish catchers anywhere, anytime. There is a senko sticky thread at the top of the fishing tackle forum page that is very informative. There is so much to learn and udnerstand when you really dig, just remember to keep it simple and you will be much happier. I hope this helps!!
  23. I hit the lake on my way home today for about an hour despite the high winds and cold front that had been sitting on us all day. I got near some boat houses and docks i like to toss senkos at and went to work. I was standing there on a ramp to a boathouse where the ramp met the shore. Out of the corner of my eye i saw some water movement and when i looked down there was a FAT girl sitting in about 1 1/2 ft of water about 2 ft from the shore. Back was almost out of the water she was so shallow. Then she calmly swims off and i lose sight of her. I know it sounds cliche to say she was a big girl but in all honesty she was every bit of 10 lbs. I dont know how i walked right past her and not seen her the whole time. I waited a while silently and motionless to see if she would come back around. I saw alot of other activity along the shoreline but not in this spot. After a while she came back to same spot i originally saw her, calmly turned around and swam back out into deeper water. My question is, even in staind water, if im able to see her can she see me? And, what are the chances she will be there tomorrow morning? Lastly, when she swims off, is she roaming the lake or is she still a short distance away?
