  1. Make sure you are properly adjusting your cast control knob. Im not familiar with the reel your using but the cast control knob is your friend. Make sure your not trying to cast to tokyo, you will backlash everytime. Start with nice and easy casts keeping your thumb on the spool and MAKE SURE you stop the line right as it hits the water or you will backlash there as well. Some people it takes time and others it doesnt. Just keep at it, be patient, use your thumb and make simple casts. It took me a couple days of focusing on casting more than actually fishing. Now its second nature and i have almost disowned my spinning gear. I still use it but prefer baitcasting because to me its much easier and more comfortable. Thats just my opinion though. Good luck!
  2. TW and Northstar! Thats the end of my online orders.

WHOA thats a big crappie. I have never seen one that big....Maybe its the angle of the pic? NICE fish.
  4. I would probably get more into crappie or bluegill. I never fish for anything but bass unless there is some nice crappie action going on somewhere. But even then i would rather Bass fish.
  5. I have a setup for spinnerbaits only. I will never hit the lake without a spinnerbait tied on. They are my biggest producer by far. Glad you have renewed your love for fishing and I hope many more fat girls come along.
  6. Square bill crank in bluegill pattern. Always works for me.
  7. I never was a fan of ultra soft. I use 6-8 on my spinning reels and will probably never use anything else unless yo zuri stops making line. I would suggest using original.
  8. Buy it, you will like it. Never had a problem with mine just like i havent had a problem with my PQ or Citica. The flippin switch is a little out of place and i have never used it but the reel has served me well.
  9. Would you throw a 1 oz Jig with a craw trailer on a M power rod? I doubt it. If he is wanting to spend alot of money im sure we could all break down a rod and reel for every single lure out there. I suggested a MH becuase he will be able to use it for more than just "plastics". Just my opinion.
  10. You can fish almost Avery lure with 3 setups. I would recommend a 7ft mh/f baitcasting combo for t rigs. Jigs and spinnerbaits. A 7 ft m-mh/ moderate or moderate fast for all baits with a treble hook. And finally a 7ft m/f spinning combo for all light weight to weightless lures. those 3 will do you perfect.
  11. When using mono or a co polymer, do you really worry about line color? When would you use green over clear? Slightly staind, staind, or muddy? Or not at all?
  12. all you need is trilene big game or trilene xl. Both are great mono lines and will cost you less than 10$. I recommend trilene big game in 12 lbs. You can get a huge spool for cheap. You dont need anything spectacular just yet. Keep it simple until you get the hang of it. THEN buy Yo Zuri Hybrid in 12#

I have never chose a weight depending on the weather conditions. Water depth and personal preferance come into play. I usually use an 1/8 oz in 1-6 ft of water. 6-12 gets a 1/4. Anything deeper than that i will use 3/8 oz. If you are wanting a slower fall use a smaller weight. I have tried using an 1/8 oz in 10 ft of water and i just cant do it. I like something that gets it down there at a decent pace.
  14. Perfect Q & A. Buy one. DO IT!
  15. Both are excellent products. Sounds like heaven to me!
  16. Just put em' in the water. I wouldnt throw a hail mary or anything like that. If your fishing off a pier though make sure you release them quickly. If i have a fish out of the water for a long time like trying to remove a gut hook or have all 6 hooks on a crank in the fish, i will put her in the water and swim her around until she regains life and swims off on her own. If your on a pier your not able to do so and will need to get her back fairly quickly.
  17. Temps above 60=safelight. Anything under 60= 9 is fine, or when the sun is out and it is a bit warmer. I am NOT a morning person so waking up early is strike 1 & 2. Strike 3 is being cold on top of that.
  18. I don't think bps has Cavitron. I have only found them at dicks sporting goods or online.
  19. Rage tail toad and the Cavitron buzzbait are my 2 favorite. The Cavitron is outstanding. If you haven't tried one I would HIGHLY recommend doing so. I haven't bought any other buzzbait in 4 years.

  21. Never fished a Cumara but i have never heard anything bad about them. For 140$ you might oughta grab it!
  22. Your looking to spend 100$ on the combo or just the reel? Regaurdless of what most say, you can find a setup that works for under or right at 100 bucks. If your going to Bass Pro look at the graphite series rods or the tourney special rods. Both are under 50 and will get the job done for you without a problem. I take it your not fishing 7 days a week in tourneys and putting your reel through hell all day long. The Pflueger Echelon is a nice reel at 60$. My father in law loves them and we go weekly for the past 2 years and his has never given him a problem. The Abu Garcia black or silver max are around 50 and are good "cheap" reels. You can fish on a budget and be comfortable unlike many seem to think. I would spool it up with 12 lbs yo zuri hybrid. Its cheap and ITS THE BOMB. Good luck on finding something within your price range.
  23. Seriously though, try a Cavitron. You will forget all other buzzbaits exist.
  24. Whatever the Cavitron has LOL. I have never looked because i have never thrown another buzzbait. Cavitron has and always will be my only buzzbait.
