Im feelin froggy
Here's a good scum frog kit that I've had for a while and haven't been disappointed with. They float well, and it includes both a "walk the dog" and popper type frog in multiple colors for not a bad price, although you may find it cheaper elsewhere. http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0000731115725a.shtml Here's another style that I've seen good reviews of but haven't fished. http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0043853121953a.shtml Good luck.

Big Bass?
Here's an example of another one that has obviously been photoshoppped. Notice the large size of the abdomen (gut) directly behind the fish as compared to the shoulders? Dead giveaway.

First Outing of '08 - Skunked!
Yesterday was the first day above freezing for several days here and it only got to around 34 degrees even then. Today, it got up to around 39 and snow was in the forecast although it never came here. I decided to give it a try so I loaded up my gear and headed to the water/(ice). The first place I chose was frozen over out to around 150 yards. Scratch that one. Went to another place that was also frozen except for the upper 300 yards of water, directly below a small (4 ft.) dam. Started out with a Rapala Floating Minnow (F-11) but gave up on that one pretty soon. I then went to a Bass Assassin and fished that for a couple of hours without any luck either. I did succeed in drawing the attention of some Koreans nearby who came over to see what this crazy American was doing. They were impressed with the "lifelike' appearance of the Bass Assassin and may possibly be at the nearest fishing store as I'm typing this getting a start on their bass fishing future. Although the snow never materialized as fore casted, a light mist did begin to fall. I started to pack up to call it a day, but decided to give it one more try with a black and blue jig. I fished that for a while but it didn't produce either Although I didn't catch anything, it was still an excellent day just to be near the water with a pole in hand. Much better than the four days I will spend at work next week. There were lots of ducks on the small area I was in. I'm not sure what kind they were, but they looked similar to a coot from where I was. I don't know that they have coots here, but that's what they looked like. Whatever they were, they were doing some serious diving the entire time I was there. They were about 200 yards away and constantly diving. They would go under and then pop back up several seconds later anywhere from 10-40 feet away. Wish I'd had my boat out. It would have been interesting to see if I could have had any luck in their area. But, it was just to cold to launch the ole Sea Eagle. I can't wait 'til spring.

Perhaps it just my computer, but I am unable to see the photobucket video. The page just continues flashing, but no video.

It's 27*...
I know the feeling. It finally got above freezing today for the first time in several days here. It's supposed to get up to around 40 tomorrow and then start snowing. Seeing all the fishing talk on here has given me the itch so I'm headed to the water tomorrow to try my luck. Even if I don't catch a thing, it'll be nice to toss a few lures around anyway.

Hell has frozen over
I've got a few of those too. Just messin' with ya. I think reels have the least amount of influence on one's fishing. Correct though you may be..., it's like the difference between the $15 Timex or the $300 Seiko (or perhaps the $10,00???Rolex) For most of our purposes, the $15 Timex serves the same purpose with similar functionality. But the Seiko/Rolex is so much nicer to look at. Although a lot of fish that most of us catch could be caught with a Zebco 33, it's all those casts in between and the feeling of satisfaction in worksmanship that make it feel good and worth owning the good stuff sometimes. (Maybe a bit of a stretch...but not by a lot) And in the off-season, makes a nice decoration in the beloved "fishing quadrant" of the house. A lot of us, when we see the pictures and read the reviews, are unbelievers. We have to buy it and see for ourselves....and then say...."Yep, they were right about this one!!!" Nice reel...Enjoy.

bass fishing in middle TN
I enjoy hearing from all of you TN people here. Although I'm posting from the other side of the world, I grew up in Middle Tennessee (Macon) until I joined the military over twenty years ago. I'll be back there some day. (Sorry to be off topic, but I felt the urge to chime in.) Good Luck.

Fishing Glove Recommendations?
Good info from all of you. Thanks a lot.

How did you find out about this site, and when you registered... (and a little about myself)
I found BR through a web search while looking for bass information. I've been on this site for about 5-6 years now, but just checked out the forum for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Why? Because most forums I have come across on the web are full of argument and bickering and personal attacks between different groups within the forum and I'm just not into that stuff. Well, when I finally checked out the forum here, what I discovered really surprised me and I now check in a couple of times a day just to see what's going on in other parts of the fishing world and have a few good hearted chuckles. The members here are nothing short of fantastic...always helpful and willing to offer their opinion or advice, but not in a way to ridicule anyone else. Easily the friendliest forum of any type I have ever been on. Another thing that I find surprising is the way that people seem as though they have known each other for years. Maybe they have in some cases, but I suspect that in other cases, they have never met besides here. I really appreciate the forum and the friendly people who visit here. Maybe I can be of assistance to someone some day. Next time any of you are in Korea, shoot me a line.

First Bait after winter thaw?
Ha...After posting this, I was looking at buying more of these, and I find that there's no such thing as a 4" Bass Assassin....I guess I was using the 5". How's that for flaunting your ignorance?

Bait Monkey's Nemesis
This video will make you sick if you've been visited by the bait monkey lately...

First Bait after winter thaw?
If you are in one of the colder climates and you've been dreaming of the spring thaw all winter, what is the first bait you toss when the ice melts in February or March? I've had good luck with a 4" Bass Assassin in March the past two years so I'll probably go with that right away.

jiggin
I once read somewhere that if you want to get good with a jig, leave all your other baits at home and fish the jig until you figure it out. I'm not sure how enjoyable this might be, but I suppose it may be effective. Good luck.

And here are a couple more smaller ones my partner and I took during a different tournament on a different lake. We placed 4th in this tourney.

Korea Bass Pics
I've been looking at some of the pics posted by T-Rig from Switzerland and figured I'd post a few photos of some Largemouth caught here in Korea. These aren't recent photos. Here is a photo with a couple of fish taken during a pro-am tournament a couple of years ago.

Filling those winter months....
Alright, lets hear it. For those of you in the frozen climates, how do you fill your bassin urge during these winter (frozen?) months? Here's some suggestions, but I want to hear your answers... .....forget bass...put a deer in the crosshairs .....organize that neglected tacklebox .....building new tackle (lures/rods/boat) to land the summer's PB .....spend all your free time on UltimateBassResource.com .....go to a non-winter climate to get my bassin fix ...it's only ice... I surround it with bourbon daily? .....what's a winter climate? I'm sure you all have some better ways....let's hear them.

Porta-Bote Considerations
The Porta-Bote weights between 55-70 pounds depending on the model. Thanks for the info. I'll look into the roof rack type you are talking about.
