Night Fishing
I love night fishing.Used to do it a lot ,but now only occaisionally.I always caught more bass on a dark (black, purple) colored T-rigged worm.

Should guides fish?
I would want my guide to fish. He's the one to put you on the fish.Being a guide he's sure to know his lake and how to catch 'em.
-
would you or have you used a guide??
If I went to a giant impoundment that I'd never even seen before,I would hire a guide for sure.If your goal is to have a good, stressless time and catch a lot of fish.I think you'd have to.If you are a pro that has a lot of experience fishing these places sight unseen and scouting them out yourself, then go it alone.Even the pros call the top guides for advice on where to fish.I know the rule against doing that and all. That's just like the rule against steroids in pro sports. Not all pros abide by that rule.

Who introduced you to fishing?
my grandfather started me on bream and perch.i started going bass fishing at 15 with my cousin.so he got me started on bassin'.

Can I tow with a ford 6
I pull a smaller glass boat(mid 70's Terry;16 ft I believe) with a Ford F150 w/ 6 cyl motor and have no problems.Of course the farthest I travel is 30 miles of fairly flat highway.

Shallow Winter Fishing
My cousin caught a 4 1/2 lb bass in 3 ft of water with a small chartruese spinnerbait last week. Not sure what the conditions were, but it is a pretty clear lake typically and it's been in the high 20's low 30's every night for a while.Water temp couldn't be that high.

are old tree stumps productive?
Yes!I catch most of my good bass on a stump littered, grassy flat. You can cast in any direction and you'll most likely come in contact with an OLD,submerged stump. The reason I say OLD is this lake was made by German prisoners during WWII.We have a large military base about a mile from where I live.

who is tougher?
I've caught a lot of both subspecies(out of the same lake;before and after the restocking),and I'd say the Florida bass fight a whole lot harder. As you said, the size probably has a lot to do with it.I mean the Florida bass are a load. The 3-5 lb Floridas fight harder than the 10 + lbers.

Schooled By D.B.
Schooled by DB is a pretty good show.I liked his "Bass Class" a whole lot.Mucho info on that show. Also like Basscenter,Byron Velvick is one cool dude. That old man that's his pardner don't know bassin' from wild honey though.Charlie Moore's craziness appeals to me much like Ike's antics endear him to most of us.I wasn't that crazy about Loudmouth Bass ,but I love Mark Zona.I hope ESPN keeps him on in some capacity.

Best Time to use Chartueuse
Despite their ability to see it or not,a chartruese spinnerbait in the spring is a go to lure where I'm fishing. They won't touch white.Fall is also a good time for it here, although they also like white in the fall.

Fishing on the Edge (Iaconelli)
I liked his book.Of course, anything about bass fishing I'll read.I like Ike and his style of fishing. It's the same way I fish(only a lot better...lol).I'm with avid on the way he throws back the "useless"fish.I respect my quarry enough to properly release it.An extra second in a Bass tournament day doesn't help that much.I'm thinking he's playing to the camera.

Bass fishing without a boat.
hile That's the truth. While several of us were out in a boat catching a sack full of dinks,Sorethumb would start screaming from the bank every 30 minutes or so and be holding a giant bass.He caught 'em off one stickup that bordered a deep ledge. That was about 20 years ago on a military base in South Mississippi.Never seen a stringer that big back then or ever since. They averaged around 7 lbs each.By the way, everyone.Sorethumb is my brother-in-law(kathy's brother)and he is a pitchin' son of a gun!

Bassmaster U. - Who would you pick to see?
I'd have to go with #3.I'd really love to hear KVD and Ike speak. My dream presenters would be Denny Braur and Gary Klein for their pitchin'/flippin' prowess and throw in Zell Rowland for his topwater ability.

Bass fishing without a boat.
Before I got my first boat(a beat up 14 ft jon that I loved like it was a Ranger),I often waded small ponds in cut off jeans and tennis shoes, and I caught a lot of bass.So yes, imo, you can wade and catch bass without spooking them too bad.

Lindners
Although I'm a Southern boy,I really enjoy watching Al do his thing.I agree that their show is very educational.Al is intense and passionate about angling.I'm a largemouth angler, but it's a treat to see other sport species in action.Smallmouth,pike,muskie,etc.That's something I never see or experience(unless you count the chain pickeral...lol).It's a good show with a fishing legend who educates and entertains.

Bass Fishing Matrix
One other thing to add.Several months ago I bought an online book called "Largemouth Bass Extreme Guide".I paid $30.00 for it.What a disappointment! It wasn't that the information was bad,it was just stuff I've known about for years. It might be a good buy for someone that is just starting out and has never bass fished. If you don't fall into that category, save your money.

Bass Fishing Matrix
I've heard of it and been sorely tempted to buy it several times, but like Abel and srv1990 I wondered if it was a legitimate bassin' tool. After reading jgannon's response,I may just get it.I mean,I spend that much everytime I go to the store on something to do with bass fishing or boating.Sounds very interesting.

why is catching bass getting harder
Where I mainly fish, they drained it down to hardly a good sized pond and started over about 10-12 years ago. They stocked the lake with Florida bass among others. It's a MDWFP lake and they have really taken care of it.Before the draining you could go and catch 15-20 bass, but they were all around the 1-2 lb range.Occasionally you'd catch a trophy.I remember years ago,my wife and I fishing out of a canoe. We sat in one spot and caught 33 bass with a purple t-rigged worm.I caught 16 and Kathy caught 17.After the draining,If you catch 7 you had a pretty fair day,but now the bass average around 4 lbs if you took every bass you caught in a year in to account. Most days you'll catch 5 if you fish for 3-4 hours. They'll be very large bass.I'm basing this on the prime fishing months(not now in this weather).

How many days?
I fish 125+ days per year for bass.I only target bass, and I'm totally cafch and release.I'm retiring from coaching and teaching at the end of the current school year after 26 years in the trenches.I hope to find a job that allows me to fish about 150+ days per year.

Before and after bass boat.
Nice! That's got to be really satisfying.

OK, I am bummed out
Bassnut, that's what I did(practiced pitching) when Katrina had the whole area locked up for a month,If you need work on pitching or flipplng, now's a good time to do it.
