  1. I just finished a summer speech class and used ethanol and biodiesel as my topics. I did some research and found an article by Mercury that talked about ethanol in their engines. Basically, all of the engines are manufactured to run up to 10% ethanol. Beyond that they said stay away because the engines were never designed to run E85. They same is also supposed to be true for small engines like lawn mowers. Right now there is also alot of bad information about ethanol and its many blends. Here's the link to the Mercury article which was written by their engineering staff. http://www.mercurymarine.com/ethanol2 If you have any other questions let me know I learned more than I may ever need to know about alternative fuels. bassdocktor
  2. Hey I asked a similar question when I got my Triton last year. Here are the responses I got. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1118102148 Also, altleast with my boat when it is running on plane it will only trim up so far. bassdocktor
  3. I'll usually do the hop method. However, I've also had some success taking a worm putting on an extremely light weight and swimming it back. If I do that approach I'll throw it out let it sink for a few seconds (half way to the bottom) and then retrieve it by swimming it slowly back and occasionally lifting it slowly with the rod tip. Has been pretty good in the summer in about 8' of water. Usually done on the outside of lilly pads. bassdocktor
  4. Definitely got lucky with that one.
  5. My front unit is a X51 and I posted earlier my console is a 332c both are Lowrance units
  6. I've got Lowrance units for both. The one you are asking about is my lms 332c.
  7. Unless you are out to fish tournaments a club can be tricky. As you said alot of people won't share info or go out which will make it hard to learn. Especially true if they fish for money. If you can find a club with guys that will share info or even take you out go for it. Or as SFC_AL if they are a good group of guys go for it. I've only been with my club for about 6 months and it is a great group of guys and they all just want to fish especially the ones with no or little boats. Definitely look into it you may have a really good time and learn some really great stuff too. Make sure you have some fun with it too. bassdocktor
  8. Those were some great clips. Although it was posted awhile back this link seems link a good one to bring back. Appropriate for the topic. http://home.comcast.net/~corywurst/jasper05.wmv bassdocktor
  9. Hey try think link to an old post. It also has a link to an older post in it too. bassdocktor
  10. Hey congrats on the purchase and good luck with it. I've noticed you've been looking for awhile. bassdocktor
  11. Those are some awesome pictures to have. I bet you're gonna be really happy when they refill the lake.
  12. Glad you finally got it back they put you through quite the ordeal.
  13. Like they said almost any bait especially plastics can be skipped. The really high boyancy ones work really well like the 3X's. There have been quite a few instances on here where I've recommened the 3X zeros for skipping because the skip very well when wacky rigged and also they hold up better (great bait to learn with). Jig and pigs can be aswell since they have a pretty compact profile. This older post has some good info and I'm pretty sure a few guys describe the skipping process in good detail http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1146873382/18#18 Hope this helps, bassdocktor
  14. I don't get them either and I've never heard of them before. I guess I'll have to check it out on the website. Congrats on hosting. bassdocktor
  15. I had it trigger a few times but I haven't been near it thankfully. I don't plug mine in until we idle away from the launch and as we head back I unplug it. Glad you turned out ok from that. bassdocktor
  16. That's too bad that you finally had to get involved like that. I guess on the up side atleast the parts will becoming now. Good luck. bassdocktor
  17. As skwerl said getting a job will help. I understand it may not be possible but it should help if you can. He could always sign the loan or what ever and you can make the payments. That's what I recently did with my dad. We traded in the old boat and I took the payments on the Triton. It's a possibility or present it like you said. Your gaining more sponsors and need a way to actively promote them. It could be a business expense. Good Luck, bassdocktor
  18. I can remember my first keep sized (14") and my first decent sized one. The keeper came on a white buzzbiat that I threw right against the shore. The people had a slide set up right near the shore and that's where I threw it. As soon as it hit the water I got it. Well now I have a tendency to fish slides if they are around. The first decent bass I caught before that was on a wacky rigged french fry off of a weed bed. That was actually the first bass I ever caught on a baitcaster (also my first baitcaster). I got the idea to fish the wacky rig from one of those old Trophy Bass games for the computer. bassdocktor
  19. Hey you could try going to the Michigan B.A.S.S. Federation Nation Website. http://www.michiganbass.net/ Hope this helped, bassdocktor
  20. Good luck Abel. I hope all goes well and you get the boat back for the weekend.
  21. I never want to put things in the gills because like DDbasser said it seems like too much potential for injury. I also never liked the idea of putting another hole in the fish or tearing up the one that it already had from the hook. I also have the XTools set. Easy to use and make it easier for me to find the fish in the livewell. bassdocktor
  22. Since you can't fish deep into the pads try fishing the edge with a light weight texas rigged worm. I guess that depends how the pads are positioned from the shore. bassdocktor
  23. I've been trying too but the same thing was discussed not too long ago and included some good info of what different people keep track of in the log. Also I believe there a a few links for maps and stuff in it too. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1133831558/20 bassdocktor
  24. Glad all our advice worked out. bassdocktor
  25. Hey I've got the same engine and 05' and sometimes have a similar problem. I'll give you my entire starting process. Might be slightly different depending on the throttle you have. 1. Prime until the bulb gets hard 2. Set it into the fast idle by pushing in the center part of the throttle and then putting it in forward. 3. Turn key to where it chirps, then hold it in for a count of five. I believe that is suppsed to choke it or somethin along those lines. I was told my a friend that has had an XR6 since I believe the 90's. 4. Turn the key to start the engine. Generally works but as I'm sure you already know don't just turn the key. It may need to crank for several seconds. As I said it should start pretty good with that process. If you still have the book for you engine go through that too. That helped me figure out the best way to get it to consitantly start. Hope this helps and let me know if it works or not. bassdocktor
