9lbs give or take a few oz's. Big fish........

Guess the weight? 10+?
The length is the impressive thing, that fish has to measure 27+ inches IMO. It has to 9 plus lbs closer to 10 or more. That's a beauty.

PB for my Bro, and my 8.5 wasn't big enough.
My brother and I got out and fished a little on Sat. His second fish of the day was this monster bass, she was almost 9lbs What a fish she jumped clear out of the water twice, scared the s!#* out of him. I got a real good one too, mine went 8.25lbs. We were using a new bait we got at BPS. Storm Kick'in Shad in Shiner color, the bait looks just like a domestic shiner. the big girls just loved it, we caught a close to a 30# limit. A little guy even tried out the bait, 25 fish total between the two of us in 2.5 hours. (IT HAS BEGUN)

The bigger fish were chew'in today...
We could set up a meeting or tourney, but there are some things that have to be organized. You can't use gas motors in this lake, and you can't park at the boat ramp without a permit. So it makes things difficult unless you live on the lake. I only know of 1 other BR member that lives on this lake. I will talk to him and see if a few of you guys could use our parking and banks to launch electric powered boats only. (strictly enforced) I will get back to everyone who sends me a message. It will most likely take place on a Sunday.

The bigger fish were chew'in today...
Went out on the local lake and did pretty good. It was windy, and the bigger girls were in pre spawn feeding mode we caught 22 fish total. 1 girl that was around 5.5, and 3 fish in the 4+ range. It was very windy on the main lake and we got a few out on in the wind around structure, docks mostly, the rest of the fish were picked off in the canals. Didn't weigh all of the fish but I would have to put our 5 best at around 19 or 20#. Very good day.

what is it?
Yeah, we used to have allot of them here in Palm Beach County. In recent years they have been rare. They used to literally walk across the streets after flood water would recede. Very neat experience to see.

Pre SuperBowl GC Outing
Went out to my brothers golf course, for a little pre SuperBowl Fishing, and they were biting fairly good mostly on cranks, a few on plastics. Got around 30 fish in less than 3 hours, the biggest pictured is around 5 or so. Very nice day it seems like the bigger fish are a little finicky right now, with all the strange weather patterns we have been having allot of luck down here.

decent so florida outing
I haven't fished that canal for a long time, but I hear it has snook, tarpon, and tons of Peas in it. I see mullet jumping around in there all the time. It is heavily fished by the bucket brigade.

Sad days in S. Florida
Wow, I didn't mean to start such a stink.... I was just saying I could only imagine what that rotten peacock of would have fought like. It probably would have fought like a 15 pound bass. I estimate that dead peacock to be at 5.5 to 6 lbs. The knife-fish was a total surprise I have never seen one in this lake or ever heard of anyone catching one, so there is probably not many of them in there. the myan cichlids I could do without, they eat everything a bass eats and there are millions of them, the only positive is that bass eat them as well. Oh well everything will balance out one way or the other.

Sad days in S. Florida
Went out on my lake a few times over the past week or so, and there was carnage everywhere, all of the exotic took a huge hit. There were hundreds of dead fish from Peacocks, myan cichlids, spotted tilapia, blue tilapia, plecos, and I even saw and photographed a fairly fresh gigantic Clown Knife-fish. There were a few really big peacocks like 5 plus pounders, very depressing. I think there was a survival rate though, the smaller fish that got into deep water probably lived. As far a the LMB's I didn't see one dead and only caught 2 small ones in a days worth of fishing. If these exotic species survive this kind of weather down here, they are here to stay.

Lots of Mackeral
Those macks out on the beach, or on the jetties and piers?

Peacock Bass Fish Kills
Went out on my local lake a couple days ago, and got totally skunked for like 3.5 hours. I saw allot of stressed out myans and quite a few dead ones also. I only saw a few dead peacocks, but I would think that the birds and other scavengers have had their way with all the floaters by now. Only time will tell if we still have them up here, or if all of them got frozen.

Peacock Bass Fish Kills
Part of what he just said is true, they introduced two species of Peacock bass in the 80's. Yes, one of them was the Butterfly, and the other was the Speckled which gets fairly big like 20 lbs or so, and for some reason other than temp they all croaked, I guess none of them survived. Fortunately the Butterflies did make it, and hopefully they will still be around.

invasive fish species in flordia
They are very good to eat, you just have to be very selective where you eat fish from Florida's waterways or lakes systems. Most of Florida's water is primarily runoff from somewhere. Down south here there is also very high mercury content in the warm waters, so too much fish and mercury poisoning it is for you. So the grocery store is best place for fresh fish here in Florida or the ocean if you can get out there.

Just got a phone call I didn't want.
Here's another tip for stuff that can be removed from your boat, write or scratch the words (Do Not Pawn) on them where it can be seen by all. Kind of gaudy, but effective for those who wish to sell stolen stuff for a quick fix.

Peacock Bass Fish Kills
I have notice over the years that the smaller peacocks have a much better tolerance to the cold temps, its the bigger adults that seem to be affected more rapidly. Fortunately the grow very fast, and bounce back fairly quick. Seems like we will never have real big ones, unless we get multiple years of warm winter months. That's what makes them even more challenging, and sought after.

invasive fish species in flordia
The invasive species in Florida are numerous. The Myan Chiclid is probably the worst of the all. This fish breeds a few time a year grows very fast and eats everything a bass eats, and also protects its young for a period of time after birth. The only good thing is that another introduced species the Peacock bass is here to help clean up the myan and spotted tilapia overages. The only problem is the weather, this unusually cold weather could kill allot of P B counties Peacock population. I believe their tolerance to cold temps is around 58-60 degrees F. Hopefully they will be OK.

bumps on bass
I have seen this on allot of fish in the south Florida area, and yes you can see them move. Most of the time the fish is healthy, with the exception of the bumps. They can be removed, scraped off or even wiped off, they don't stick too much. I seem to see more of them on golf course fish than anywhere else. I don't know how bad they are for the fish or the lake system. I will be interested to see what the experts have to say.

Ho... Ho... Hawg...
The day after Christmas I got out on the lake to try out some new stuff. Sure enough the first fish of the evening was a 6-1#, she was very fat and prepared for the upcoming spawn. After a little while later I did manage a nice 2# peacock and 5 total peacocks overall. Then we proceeded to get 3 more nice fish in the 3 to 4# range over the next hour and a half or so. It started to get dark, and I got 1 more nice fish after dark on a crank. One of the highlights was a 3 to 4# Channel or Blue, I can't tell the difference, on a senko, which is first for me. Overall a very good 3 hours of fishing. Happy Holidays everyone.

Great weekend. Things are good in S. Florida.
Started out Thur. trying for some Peacock bass down south, it was a little slow, but I did manage one nice one around 3# or so. Then Saturday went to the golf course ponds and managed 3 fish over 4#, one of which went 5.5#. The I went out on my lake and got a few nice bass nothing special. The highlight was the Crappie, they were on fire, and I caught a few real nice ones. Overall a great weekend full of fishing and catching.
