Fish ID
Yes, those myan's fight great for thier size, and yes they are good eating, like a sweeter version of tilapia. They will hit any lure a bass will, its funny I have caught them on soft plasics with 3/0 worm hooks before.

best tasting lake fish??
Way down south the only edible fish are the myan cichlids, and the tilapia, water quality permitting, we get some nasty waterways down here full of stagnant water, and high mercury levels also have to be considered. Peacock bass are great eating also but they are just to awsome for me to eat them.

55 Over Par
Not a bad day at the golf course yesterday. They were on fire almost from start to finish. My bro and I got out about 4:15 or so and fished till 7:45 and got 55 fish one after another, what a blast. They were hitting anything that touched the water. The biggest of the day went around 5 lber, with two 4 lbers, and countless 3 lbers. Overall just a great 3.5 hours of fishing. Here's the bigger ones.

Hybrid Strippers
I don't like my stippers to smell that fishy. LOL And I agree, the dollar bill is the best bait, soak it in champagne for full the effect.

Got 20 Bass and a Southern Pike
A friend and I went down south to try and get some of them peacocks, they havn't been biting too good up where I live. So we get down to a new spot, a southern broward county canal way out west. The canal was 150 feet wide and stretched for miles, and had beautiful structure all through it. We started off right away catching 1 to 1.5 pounders left and right on any soft plastic that hit the water, it slowed down a little and we trolled a few cranks down the middle of the canal to see if we could find where the peacocks were or larger bass. And thats when the southern pike hit the crankbait, I know it's a chain pickeral, but southern pike sounds better. These are very rare way down south, it was fun to get one in the boat. I personally havn't seen one in many years. So overall an average day 20 small bass and that pickeral, no peacoks, although I did see one taunting us from under the heavy structure. (it's starting to get hot down here mid to high 80's yesterday)

New PB- Pics!
I would have to say 3.5 to 4, very nice fish. I have one question though, were you working on your garden when you caught it? (nice gloves) LOL

I will go and check it out today, I drive past there everyday on my way to work. I will just look for a good spot with a grill, pavillion and close to some good water. Havn't fished there in a while, but I know there is some good spots.

Pretty Good day from Boat and Land
How many dead peacocks did you see? I went out last week and only saw one, I hope you didn't see too many floaters.

Good day on the course.
Went to my special golf course to try a few ponds today, and they were a little slow, the big bite wasn't on as much it was the last few times we were there. Still wound up with 15 fish in 3 hours. We got a few good ones, my brother got a 5 pounder I got one around 3.5 or so. The biggest one I caught was interesting. We were walking from lake to lake and my bro spotted what looked like a decent fish in a perimeter canal. I saw a good fish swimming around in this 8 foot across 2.5 foot deep canal, I have a soft swim bait on and I cast to the area and BAM she takes it. This canal is full of weeds and the bank is very steep. So after a very short battle I manage to get her into the weeds and crawl down the bank to retrieve her and transplant her into a nice shad filled golf course pond. Now she has a little room to swim around and grow. Overall Par for the course.

Thanks FL for the FIX
Yeah, I don't think you are supposed to stand too close to those gators when they are out of the water like that. He dosn't look like a big one but if they associate humans with food the will find some way to get food from you. (ie leg, arm or so on) Usually they just jump in the water and run away, but some people feed them and they think anytime they see a human that means food. Nice fish, and glad you had a good time down here.

My trip to Holiday park and Lake Wellington
The only thing odd about that fish being a myan, is that the false eye or little circle near its tail is not blue or turqoise and that is a charicteristic of the myan. Red or orange circle means it is some kind of oscar, which is also a chiclid species. Odd fish, probably realesed from a fish tank.

Okeehelee park is just south of Royal palm Beach, Forest Hill Blvd, Just east of 441 (St. Rd 7). Fairly big park with allot of fishable water.

Jumping fish in Broward County...
I have heard that a larger black mullet will jump and land on its side to promote digestion of food. Just heard that from several knowledgable people in the past don't know if it holds water or not.

I'm in, I live 3 miles from that park, someone has to take charge and organize it or it won't happen. So who's the coordinator?

Monster Day in Delray....
Went to the old golf course again, things have been heating up in those GC ponds. Well it was a good idea to go fishing this evening. It started off slow, but as soon as the sun started to set it was crazy I tell you. I caught a 5lber and a few casts later got one close to 7 lbs, then a few minutes later another one over 5lbs, and to finish off the evening I got one more just about 5lbs. What a evening all of these pigs were caught within 45 minutes of each other. Probably one of the best 5 fish totals I have ever had. (24 or 25lbs) We caught 25 or so fish, but all the big ones were caught right before dark. I am still shaking two days later, gonna be hard to beat this outing. Heres pics of the big ones in the order they were caught.

Seven pounder.
So how far is your face behind the fish? Looks like at least a foot or so. Still a nice fish, just funny how you held the fish closer to the camera.

Went to the golf course a few days ago, and almost as soon as we got there a very large heron just wouldn't leave us alone. He stood almost 5 foot tall, and had obviously been fed before. He would chase our bait, and when we caught a fish he would almost attack us to get it. So we figured, feed him and he would leave us alone. So we thought the first the small fish about a pound or so we would feed him. I got a pic of him flying off with about a 1.5 pounder. Needless to say he left us alone after that meal. If he wasn't bothering us so much I probably wouldn't have fed him a bass. But he was getting dangerously close to us and our hooks. Heres a few pics of him bugging us.

Big fish today x2
Went to the golf course for some bank beating today. Started out fast, caught and missed a few nice fish right away. Had a big heron that just wouldn't leave us alone. Almost hooked this heron a few times, it kept chasing our baits when they were close enough for him to see them. He stabbed my senko and almost got a 3/0 Gamagatsu in his face. Well, back to the fishing, I didn't wiegh all the fish, but I had a 20 plus pound bag today with no exageration. The 2 big fish went 5-6 and 5-11, and they didn't even look like the were ready for the spawn yet. But when the wind picked up and the front moved in like light switch off went the bite. We got 4 hours of just unbelievable fishing in, close to 40 fish with 2 missed 5 plus pounders. Can't complain at all my wrist and arms are a little sore from the battles that took place today. Enjoy the pics, I will post another thread with that 4.5 foot bird that wouldn't leave us alone.
