  1. For those of you that are fans and/or is interested, BPS has the Saros and Extreme spinning setup for $150. That's a pretty darn good price for the two pieces.
  2. Klem's tractor sales, rt. 9 on the east brookfield/spencer line http://www.klemsonline.com/ the sale only goes until the 9th though, so hurry up! Oh, yeah... I know where that is. Pretty cool. Thanks for the tip, Mike.
  3. Hmmm... don't think I've seen that rod then. The price is the same as the spinning rod I have, but never seen the casting rod.
  4. x3 on jigs and worms. Good for 1/2 or better spinnerbaits, too.
  5. Mike, what's the name of that shop... I'd like to check it out.
  6. Was it the CTR spinning rod? If so, I have one that I used to use for small, shallow crankbaits. I like the action on the rod for that technique. I now use it for shad fishing in the spring. I don't think they feel all that light, though. I mean, it's not bad, but they are definitely tip heavy. All in all, it's a decent rod for the price and carries a lifetime warranty. From what I understand, it is an unconditional warranty. I can't confirm that because I've never had to use it, but that's what Cortland states if I remember right. A little while back, I went to a local sportsman show they had around here with a buddy of mine. I saw that rod marked down to $19. I told him to pick it up because he was looking for a new shad rod. There was that only one left. I paid $65 for mine about 5 or 6 years ago. :-[
  7. I personally like the 200 size Curado. I got a couple Revos, and to me, those things are tiny. It felt like a kids toy in my hand. As far as retrieve speed, I agree with Shadcranker in that a 6.3:1 would be just fine. I have the Curado 200DHSV mounted on a Mossyback 7'3" H/fast and use it for pitching jigs/creature baits and c-rigs. I like the way the 200 balances on that rod. The retrieve speed makes it nice for getting the jig back in to pitch to the next spot and nice for picking up line if you have a decent amount of line out on a c-rig and the bass swims towards you. A lighter reel on that rod just doesn't feel as balanced IMO. I think the combo you want will be great for heavy cover. I almost decided on the 7'1" Mossyback myself.
  8. I gotta get my CT fishing license still. I usually fish around the Canton/Winsted area when I'm in CT. 1. LM/SM Bass/crappie/bluegill (all year) 2. Shad/Stipers (spring) 3. Carp/catfish (late summer/fall) 4. Pike (fall) 5. Trout (spring/early summer)
  9. Could you post a picture of the deformed spool? I'm curious to see what you were describing in your post.
  10. Don't remember which magazine it was, but someone used those pen springs as keepers on hooks. Nice spin on it though.
  11. Yeah, you're right. Bearings definitely benefit from a full cleaning before adding oil, especially changing oil. However, I'll add a drop of oil in some key spots and bearings if they get noisy in between full breakdowns.
  12. Sorry, I misunderstood your question. It sounded to me that you weren't aware that there was any other control than the spool tension knob. So, I checked out the website thinking it must have more than just the tension knob.
  13. I also noticed that on all the Pflueger reels that I have. I don't have a Trion, but I have a couple Presidents and a handful of Supremes. I have one of the Purist reels, too. And the freespool on all of those are awesome. But, I can consistently outcast all my Pfluegers with the Curados and Citicas that I have on the exact same rods. It seems the Pfluegers' spools will spin like 4 times longer than my Shimanos' spools when just messing around with 'em. To me, I think it's my trying a little harder to control the "free-er" running spool on a cast, restricting my achievable distance. The Shimanos cast a country mile with very little conscious thumb control on my part. I honestly think Shimano nailed the spool weight/free spool balance on those reels.
  14. I have had this problem in the past when I first started using braid. My friend who had just started using BC's has this problem from time to time also. He uses 30lb. PP. I don't think it has to do with the brand of line, but just something that I noticed is inherent with braid on a backlash. Mono, poly, or flouro will birds nest around spool and slow your lure down in the air. Braid will start to work it's way back around the spool the wrong way with a tighter grab on the spool and stop the lure dead in the air. If you're making a long cast, you'll put a little more into the cast. And if you lash with that kind of force, it'll just snap your line and send that sucker. That's my take on it anyway. I still lash from time to time if I try to toss it farther than I know I should. I lost a rattletrap last year like that.
  15. ;D Budaman, you are a thread makin' machine.
  16. I took a look at the reel on the website, and it says that there is a centrifigul brake system on that reel. It says something about a release lever on the sideplate opposite the crank, and that the sideplate comes off. Sorry that I can't supply more info than that.
  17. The first problem I can't help you with, but Citicas you can get at almost any Shimano retailer, or ebay.
  18. Darn! Beat me to it. I am a big fan of the symmetre and the stradic as I have, oh, just a few of each. But, I also have a small collection of Pfluegers, and I really think you'd like the feel and balance on that rod matched up with a Supreme. A symmetre 2500 would be a good choice also... but the Supreme just feels perfect to me on that rod.
  19. I bought a couple of them this year to try them out. I haven't had a chance to put some time in on the water with them yet, but they do cast nicely and have a good feel for a rod at that price (I think I picked them up for 40 bucks). Before I bought them, I did a little research to see how people liked them and found that the people who used them enjoyed using them. I don't know that I'd pay full price on them, but for less than 50 bucks, I think that it's a good rod.
  20. My father-in-law loves those things. He has a few of them. I have to admit, though, they are pretty nice reels for that price. They are pretty smooth. I was curious to know if they were trions with a different bearing count and tried to look up the schematic for the Trion to compare it to his schematic. Unfortunately, Pflueger doesn't have their reel schematics in PDF format.
  21. Cool move! He does owe you a cold one. I wouldn't think that a reputable rod company like Powell would charge for a replacement rod that broke so shortly after the purchase unless it were blatant abuse.
  22. I would run a search on that reel in this forum category. I know that there was a thread I have recently read that has some information commenting on the Patriarch. I don't own that reel, but I do have a Supreme BC, and I love that reel.
  23. Oh, and check out ReelMechs website. He has some really good information on reel maintenance. It's what he does.
  24. I would definitely clean them first. Just adding oil would be fine if the bearing sounds like it's running dry and needs to be lubricated. But, if you're going to change to a different oil for performance reasons, I'd definitely get the old stuff out first.
  25. I agree and it's half the price. x3! I love that bait.
