I enjoy all of the responses, even negative. That what makes the world go round dude! It seems to me that somebody must pee in your cornflakes on a daily basis from all the negative posts I have seen from you though. I say I have lost my mojo because of my limited time to fish lately and how rusty I was. Well it only takes a few fish to regain confidence for me, sorry!

I know from the pic it doesn't look real fat but she was obviously fattening back up after her spawn and was full of shad, as were the smaller fish that day. Full of eggs she was problably a real porker. It wasn't that she was huge just thick n healthy. I have just been around long enough to know a 5 pounder give or take a half pound when I see one. She was solid, my brother in law and me both said 5 - 51/2. and Mr. dsaavedra visit Presque Isle or another large harbor on Lake Erie and see how off the fish calculator can be with largemouth. There is a lake here where a 18" largemouth weighs up to 5 pounds (Dale Walborn reservior). Trust me guys I don't get upset with critisism. We all have our own thoughts. I just wish my tourneys were going nearly as well as my fun fishing. I've lost my mojo. These past couple fun trips might just get me jump started though.

i agree. :-/ Which pic are you guys lookin at? Yo guys no offense taken but, this fish was well over 5 . I have caught and scaled many, many fish 5+ pounds. I am 6'2" and my knuckles are about 4 1/2 inches across and the fish is not stretched towards the camera. The second photo with my brother is a 16" fish. I don't BS people or have any need to exaggerate weights. My brother did check his scale and it read different with the same 5 lb weight anywhere from 1.8- 3.9 so the scale was not right. Maybe not a 7 but well over 5. HMMMM? Maybe me and my brother who have collectively fished in over 250 tourneys and have seen thousands of fish weighed would misjudge a fish by three pounds. Next time I will make sure to take my boat, my scale, and my tape so I am sure I don't claim a 3 pounder to be more than a 3 pounder.

WHAT! Okay, here is the #1 trick: If you are fishing single hooks, use a Medium Power/ Fast Action spinning rig with a drag you can depend on. When a smallmouth first sees your boat, she will bolt, everytime! You really need equipment you can count on. 8-) If he told us his secret , he would have to kill us !!!!!!!! No nothing like that guys, it's just everybody has their own little system for smallies on Erie. I just have a couple little tricks besides a fast action rod. And RW Erie smallies are surprisingly bold Often drifting you have 150 feet of line out depending on depth. One of those little tricks is eliminating some of the stretch of mono or flouro while maintianing a small amount of it. I think you can figure that one out right. It's the little things that turn a bite into a boated fish!!

I usually average 10-15 good ones a day and a few dinks . But there are days when I get a big fat 0. Regardless I am usually just happy to fish!!!!! My tourney season has been in the toilet but, I have been whuppin em fun fishin!!!!!

Went fishing with my brother inlaw yesterday in a downpour but that sure didn't stop the bite. I manage to catch 8 or so between 2 1/2 and 31/2. Then I caught this Toad, his scale said it weighed 2.17 so that was wrong. he did manage a few fish but I outfished him 5-1 +size. I figure this fish would have possibly been a 7 . Oh well I got a pic. OH yeah I am sorry i don't have more pics from that trip it was POURING!!! A little guy from my brother!!

Yea RW I have to double take and judging from the mouth and girth I believe that fish is a solid 5 1/2. And it is not very short either. Anyways way to go MarVaBC. Let my modify that is a definately a solid 5 1/2.

I read alot of post and answer alot of my own ? But I do have quite a bit of knowledge I love to share so that is why I don't ask alot of questions. But I love to teach and share what I do know. I hope I have helped at least a few fellow anglers. I also know some of my coments are inflammitory but I just want fairness throughout our great sport. I also appreciate all I have learned here!

Fish Erie and get into some open water smallies and you will quickly find out getting them to the boat is a real challenge. At 25-30 feet deep sometimes they will come to the surface twice as fast as you can reel a 7.1-1 reel would make no difference. The you can watch that brown missle come out of the water often throwing your bait. The thing about Erie fishing can be kinda boring until you set the hook and then it's game on. A person who is not used to these fish often loses more than they catch. There are tricks that I can't divulge but once you get it you got it. My PB largemouth is 6 1/2 and I have caught more over 5 than I can count but not one has fought nearly as hard as any smallie over 4. Case in point I went with mydogdamit sunday and caught 4 largemouth 3-5 pounds and not a single one made runs or acrobatics like the three pound smallie I also caught. You can look on the my tournament or outing threads and check out the "bet I wish I lost" thread and see the smallie that out muscled all of the largemouth in those pics.

That's awesome. Nothing better than putting smiles on the youngsters faces. They look like they were having a great time. And I bet you had a great time too!! Way to go!

I am not knocking you MR. ELITE MEMBER, but that is bad advice. What would happen if the watercraft official decided to do livewell checks and he did not deem it to be a keeper. That would be a fine, loss of tackle, and a D.Q. Also at this point I have won more money and prizes than donated by far!!!!

I would also think snagged carp.

Nice first boat! Much better than what I started in a 12ft v bottom jon with a 5 horse and little trolling motor.

You are not giving us enough info on how you fish, baits, cover, etc. We need more infomation buddy.
