  1. I have fished many tourneys at both. bags at st clair 18-21 lbs, bags at erie minimum 24lbs for a check on a not so good day!
  2. Brian I also realize the ammo n tripod carrier for the S.A.W gunner also carries your beloved MP-4.
  3. Brian. Have you had the opportunity to see or operate the Barrett .50 anti sniper rifle? That my friend is one impressive weapon and the only weapon currently manufactured by a private company for the military. Over 3000 meters of pure accuracy semi auto and very low recoil. AWESOME. Cant go wrong with a rifle that can penatrate a armored vehicle and do incredible damage at those ranges.
  4. I understand ballistics and agree the M4 is good to 300+ yards, but like you say the energy the bullet carries past that distance drops dramatically. I like the S.A.W because of it's rate of fire not the round. It delivers the suppresion fire, you know it's nice to have a S.A.W gunner in your squad. The 5.56 was developed for maximum damage without a heavy round. The 7.62 is very heavy in comparison, other than being heavy itself thats why the 240 Bravo needs 2 people to carry the components and ammo. I am happy to hear the ARMY is getting it's stuff strait.
  5. Cheap? Being in the military you should know cheap. Almost everything the military uses is manufactured by the lowest bidder! Your armory problably has piles of non-working malfunctioning M16,M4,240 series,S.A.Ws. and just about every other weapon you can find. Even your TA-50 is problablably made in China now. Your berets are. Right! Just because it's a Colt doesn't mean quality. The H-k upper sounds like a band-aid for a bullet wound. Most of the military weapons need revamped or replaced. H-K,Barrett, even Colt all have prototypes that would be viable. The M4 is still basically a Vietnam era weapon in a smaller package. Somewhat reliable but still has the tendency to quit when you need it most. After serving in Iraq I have the utmost respect for you but you have to know the civilian world carries higher quality weapons than the military. (when was the last time you had the choice to upgrade your reciever, barrel, trigger sear, firingpin, barrel,or springs?) I was not talking a BSA red dot! Almost all riflescope manufacturers make a red dot or holographic sighting system that are as or more reliable than ANYTHING you will find in your armory. Lets be real the M4 is more for close quarters than long range shooting. If I was in combat in the open with a M4 I would hope my man with the 240 bravo or S.A.W was near!
  6. I really can't stand all of the above, but what gets me the most is people who don't know how to load and unload their boat and take up the launch while their person in the tow vehicle parks. Usually it's recreational boaters but some fishermen don't understand launch etiquette either. Put the dang boat in the water and move to the courtesy dock! This almost always slows getting in and out of the water to a halt while some ********* with a cabin cruiser has his wife hold the boat in the lane while he parks and meanders back to the boat. Then does all his checks before firing up his inboard, or worse finding out he has a dead battery and taking up that lane for an extended period of time. I HATE THAT!!!
  7. My picture file was to large the steelies were about 13 to15 pounds each. I'll try and get them on again
  8. I caught these guys november 4th 2007 while bass fishing in one of the harbors on Lake Erie. Sorry I am a little secretive! I caught 25+ 3 pound plus bass and my father and a friend caught about the same between them. These two big boys made my day though. Had a few more hookups with steelies but they managed to throw my crank. I was my last day out.
  9. CHINE WALK IS MAINLY CUASED BY A POORLY SET UP RIG. THE RIDE IN A TRITON IS VERY DRY. MY TR-20 WILL TOP 78 GPS WITH LITTLE NOTICABLE WALK.THERE IS NO "DRIVING THROUGH THE CHINE WALK" YOU MUST LEARN TO CONTROL YOUR CRAFT AND SET UP PROPERLY. TOO MANY HATERS TO TAKE ADVICE FROM THIS THREAD FRIEND. GO WITH YOUR EXPIERIENCE IN THE BOATS YOU ARE TESTING!
  10. Erie my friend 60+ fish a day with so many over 4 lbs it's mind blowing. 5 pounders are common with 6s increasing. I have never never found concentrations of any type of bass like you do here. it's just something you have to experience!
  11. Gman I fully support your ownership of this bad boy. I personaly own 2 russian ak-47s semi auto of course. But here in Ohio these rifles are limited to recreational use. We buy cases of ammo and shoot the crap out of cinder blocks, pumpkins, melons and whatever else happens to need destroyed. The confusing part was just the real purpose of the weapon and the perceived purpose of it. I am a purist and personally would choose open sights over the luepold and have found a red dot with a small MOA dot to be perfect for the MP4 . In a civilian world these are no more than sporting rifles. I guess coyote hunting would be ok. For coyotes I use an over under 20guage/.222 it's perfect! P.S. the 100 round dual drum mag would look alot more intimidating, if you can find one!
  12. Beautiful rifle. That huge scope is a little overkill though. Would like to see it with a red dot for faster sighting. Do the deer in your area wear turbans or something? Is it a suppressive fire rifle or a short range sniper rifle? Sorry I just am having trouble Understanding this weapons purpose. 5.56 for deer? Throw that scope on a 7mm mag and I get it. I use a 50 cal. frontloader for all gun seasons here never needed a follow up shot yet. Knock on wood! I thought hunting was about getting close to the game and dispatching it as quick as possible. Still a beautiful rifle just confusing. Please don't consider this a bashing.
  13. Anybody up for coming to Akron,Ohio late March early April on foot miles of great largemouth action. Here is the challenge one rod, one pocket of lures I will let you know what to bring lure wise and use the same type lures. Biggest fish, most fish whatever, we would never be more than 40 yards apart. Besides if that action in not on I live 10 minutes from the portage lakes we could hop in the boat for lake action. I really don't think that would be nessasary though.
  14. TRITON WITH A MERC. I admit I am partial though. I owned a Ranger previously and traded it in on a 01 tr-20 w a 225 Opti 4 years ago. I would not trade 4 a x-2 or z-series. The new Tritons are nice but I love my older tr. It handles like a slot car and is an absolute rocket but It also handles Lake Erie's weather n waves great. It's all about finding the right boat for YOU my friend!
  15. Caught one the size of burley's on a lucky craft jerkbait. It had the entire size 4 rear treble in it's mouth. Talk about delicate removal!
  16. I agree the North American Hunting and Fishing clubs are basically scams. I was a member of each for one year and they both do the same things. Send you a crappy ad filled poorly put together magazine then send you books and other items that you have to send back. Hold the magazines by the spine and piles of inserts fall out.The useless trinkets and lures sent are just that USELESS! Spend your 15 bucks on BASS or FLW you still get the uncountable ads but a much better publication. Buy three cranks or a couple bags of plastics and you will much better off. The ads get to me! I only watch Roland Martin and Shaw Grigsby if the episode is close to me. I know thats how these gentlemen make a living, but to me the fishing is lost in the constant bombardment of sales pitches!
  17. I don't mean to brag but Ihave caught one the same length as the Lucky Craft Live Pointer 80 I was throwing! Under 4 inches it had the whole rear treble in his mouth.
  18. You can catch quality smallies from one end of Erie to the other. May is usually great with water temps in the low to mid 50s. You really have to expect poor weather and high waves. 2 to 4 footers are ideal for a good day, flat water is no good. Find the structure rocks, shoals, wrecks and you will find smallies. A decent map book will steer you in the right direction. Use the waves to cover structure and BANG you have smallmouth. It is easier to hold in waves than it may seem also. May has produced "fun limits" 5 fish over 30 pounds. (we have closed seasons no tourneys) my best 5 tourney catch to date is 27.91 . Used to have a Ranger r-17 115 merc never had problems w waves now I have a Triton tr-20 225 OPTI. The bigger boat ads confidence but you still must take time and caution. Erie can get really nasty really quick! Go prepared n stay alert!
