  3. Go fishing Any way you mught learn something!
  4. I the Ohio has the biggest smallmouth as far as consistant numbers. there are frequent 30 pound plus bass fron lake erie tourneys. that rivals normal floridas largemouy limits or execeeds them!
  5. I cant find a topo of this place? anybody?
  6. YOU need to provide much more info, the guys here will help you but, We need water clarity, name of the lake to google and take a look at, boater non-boater, current lake levels, what you are good at right now as far as throwing baits would help too!!!!
  7. Somehow I still find time to fish like 15 tourneys a year. You can fish alot earlier and later in the season than you can camp.
  8. Yeah have to get at least three or four camping trips with the family a year. Wife and daughter love boating and nature
  9. Just wanted to find out how many members actively fish bass tournaments. And those who just like to fish for bass.
  10. X2 Sorry MUDDY!! I did however post my avatar and it is from the last time I fished inland PA. To show some love for his state!!!
  11. Gotta figure the headache factor. $150 for a pair of quality shades now or the same amount of cash over the season on Exedrin. The worse is a long drive home with a pounding headache that could have been prevented. I have a spare pair of $20 glasses in the boat in case of breakage or loss, but the Solar Bats are on at all times.
  12. Man that is deep! Really touches me. Truly! How much does others faith in you relieve your pressure. Tons! Ever overheard your wife, kids or parents talking highly of your fishing "talent". To me there is no better confidence builder than that (and winning a critics respect) I think confidence helps you lose yourself in the "zone" and block out distractions. Awesome thread. Thank you!
  13. Tackle remains ready. Been flippin around the house and yard all winter, but only my flippin stick has line on it. All other rods will be ready by Sunday.
  14. Has anyone bought or tried the new Mossback gradient lenses? I have the mossbacks and they are awesome, but the new transition type lenses sound even better. Anybody?
  15. Just means open water, or fish that roam open water in search of prey. Now the smallies have gobies to eat and don't have to hunt the open water baitfish primarily on Erie (they still do) they are pot bellied sorta bottom feeders. They are odd though sometimes suspending 15 down over 40 feet of water. I thought I learned that word (pelagic) from the Linders a long time ago and understood it to mean fish that spend most of their life off-shore like salmon.
  16. Guilty,Guilty,Guilty. I go out on the deck and flip at objects sitting on the ice in the pool. When it starts to warm an the plug punches through the ice I then start aiming at those holes. My wife already knows I am nuts and the neighbors just scratch their heads.
  17. I fished a tourney in early November on the Ohio river my first fish was a 3.5 largemouth very sluggish. A little later I caught a 3.5 smallie that one thought he was friggin superman!! River fish in general are stronger period. Look at the shape of a river smallie compared to one in a caught from a lake. Lake Erie smallmouth are very heavy for their length. That is what happens when you put a stream fish in a pelagic environment. Another classic example the rainbow trout - steelhead.
  18. I fish Erie all the time and two socks are a must I have one i have had for years its about 36 inches and another that is 42 with a adjustable outflow these really help control with pretty good precision.
  19. In reseviors and rivers here the smallies outfight the largemouth by double. But if you go to some of the larger harbors on Lake Erie the largemouth take on that football shape of the smallmouth (my theory large expanses of very deep water, plenty of baitfish + the northern strain) these largemouth grow some big shoulders and give smallies of the same weight a run for their money
  20. Glad to here It's not just an Ohio thing!!
  21. In Ohio bank fishermen have the right of way. That said I have never had one get upset with me fishing around them. When you catch a fish they usually ask some questions about bass fishing and I have no problem answering them if they are polite! Whats worse on some lakes here pleasure boaters have the right of way over fishermen at the launch.. Usually the hubby backs in the boat ties up the dock while he meanders to park his rig and wifey holds the boat. Sometimes it's not bad if she is hot! LOL!!! Then lets his boat warm up thoroughly before moving knowing we have courtesy docks for this..
  22. I AM BIASED BUT, buy a Triton Popeye the tr platform is fast, safe and durable. You can wave to the Champions, and Rangers as you fly past em. Lifetime warranty on the hull too! The X series Tritons are great but I bought my tr20 new and will problably keep it till it dies or Triton comes out with another tr20!
  23. There should be a fishing courtesy pamphlet in circulation!
  24. YA KNOW MUDDY . With a little 85 pound braid weighted treble and your flippin stick you could have a little fun with him. I was fishing a causeway and some guy came between me and the rocks my partner picked up the old flippin stick cast over and reeled over the other guys line snagged it in. He said oh sorry is this your bait. cut it off and threw it on shore. you should have heard the language that flew out of that gentlemans mouth. His fault though, you just dont do that to people. YA KNOW
