  1. Nope, no money. Just your time and assistance to help slice, serve, general help. All food, plates, plasticwear, drinks, pretty much everything you can think of is donated. The only thing we brought was food for ourselves and beverages of choice. I appreciate your interest and offer for help. We set up at the stadium last year, I'm sure that where we will be again.
  2. Guys, I need some help here. We are putting on a BBQ for another group of soldiers (5th Brigade, 1st Cav) heading out to Iraq. We participated in one at Ft. Hood last year and it was VERY fulfilling. We show up on 6/4 and cook all night then have a service team that feeds everyone, the count they gave us is 9,000 troops and their families (we did 10,000 last year). We can use all the help we can get, and anything you can do is GREATLY appreciated. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me, or if you have my # give me a call. Thanks! I know a few of y'all have some big smokers as well, we can use all the cooking space we can get too. We cooked up almost 7,000 LBS of brisket, pork butts, and sausage, wont be quite that much this year, but still will be at least a couple tons of meat. Last year we had a guy come all the way from Alabama to help us out. Even if you don't have a smoker, we can utilize your assistance.
  3. I'm going to have to go with the Pointer. I have always been skeptical about a $20.00 bait, but I broke down and bought 2 of the Pointers and have not regretted the decision. We have been catching striper, whites, and blacks off the same bait. I have missed a few, but can't contribute that to the hooks, probably just a misguided fish . Just the way the back of that bait moves makes that bait almost irresistable to those bad boys!
  4. I'm a big fan of the Shimano Curado B series reels I have a few of each of the 200 size (200B, 200B5, 200B38, & 200SF). I have tried the new Curados and am not impressed at the $200 price point, YET. I have picked up a couple Citicas and have been happy with them. I use them in both salt & freshwater and haven't had any issues. I have looked at the Core a couple times but it's just too far out of my budget right now. Great topic.......
  5. Have you looked at the Luck-E-Strike Magic Bass baits? Very similar to both Basstrix and the ones you posted, I think you get more in a pack than 5 though. I think they run $5.99-6.99 as well.
  6. My vote goes to Falcon. I have plenty of other brands, but always go back to my Falcon.
  7. I'd either go with the Falcon Cara (If you have an Academy Sports & Outdoors near you they are on clearance for under $100.00) or even the Falcon Lowrider. I picked up 2 Cara's this past week 1-6'6" MH and 1-6'9" Medium "Weightless Worm Special", both were $99.88/each.
  8. Sorry, it was the copolymer line. Only paid $7.50 for the spool. I also have been trying the Suffix line as well, there is a pretty good rebate on them as well when you buy 2 spools.
  9. Finally had a chance to go out and throw these cranks this morning. All I can say is they look great in the water and all 5 that I tried ran true right out of the package, no tuning needed at all. Also found out that the CSH is a suspending bait. I was able to hook up with 4 fish on the cranks today all coming off the shadtruse pattern. Just wanted to let y'all know about these baits and their performance.
  10. I have been using this line for a while now in both salt & freshwater and have been really pleased with the line strength, knot strength, and abbrasion resistance it has. Anyone else been using this stuff and have any feedback on it?

i have some in the 5.5 but i didn't get to strong of a bad smell. the smell is present but i have to stick my nose a half inch from the bait to smell it. Mine came when I opened the package. Normally you get some kind of scent smell, but the plastic smell seemed almost overwhelming.
  12. What about the old standby..... Rat-L-Trap Chrome/Blue or Chrome/Black
  13. They have been getting quite a bit of publicity lately, the bait monkey says I need to invest in a couple of these......

I just recently picked up a couple packs of Luck-E-Strike Magic Bass swim baits. I got them in the 4.5", but wish I would have seen the 5.5 or 6.5". They have a good price and look great in the water, only drawback is they have a STRONG smell of plastic, I have tried to douse them with garlic with a little success. They are a tube instead of solid so a flutter hook works real well with them.
  15. I really like Norman cranks. I know LC are great but I just can't bring myself to pay that much for a lure that I will probably lose the first day out......
  16. 1. Zoom Super Fluke 2. 5" Senko 3. Grande Bass Rattlesnakes 4. Terminator Sponnerbait 5. Yamamoto 5" Kut tail worms 6. Super Spook Jr
  17. Here is a good one... I was launching my boat solo on Lake Austin. When I do this I tie a rope to the cleat and the other end to the trailer to ensure it doesn't float off. Well, I followed the same proceedures I do every time, only problem this time the rope had dry rotted (been awhile since I launched solo) and it broke when I started to pull it back in. Needless to say the lake had a small flow to it this morning and it started off down the lake. Had to get in and chase it down by swimming after it. Finally got it and swam it back to the ramp. When I got back to the ramp I got a standing ovation from the sunbathing ladies on the dock at the spa next door. What a start to the day........ :-[
  18. My biggest peev is the wakeboarders who ride up next to you while your fishng. Can't tell you how many times I have had a wave come over the front of my boat due to a wakeboard boat coming much too close. Also, I was out on Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin and had scull boats and kayaks going between me and the shore while I was fishing, talk about really cheesing you off..... >
  19. Was out a Lake Travis last Saturday and put some fish in the boat.
  20. I fish for fun.....ALOT! I try to get out and fish twice a week. I love it and is the best way for me to wind down after a rough day/week at work. I know y'all know what I mean. Me and my buddy try to do some tourneys as well, but thats maybe 5-6 a year.
  21. Whats up everyone? I picked up a couple over the past week, I have used a couple of them out here on Lake Travis in Austin with good results. Also, I have not had to make any adjustments to the baits out of the package, they have all run true. I also have the dive depths if your interested..... Check them out, I dont think you will be disappointed.
