How do Okuma Reels Stack up to other brands?
On PAR. I have a buddy that fishes them almost exclusively. Haven't tried them, but he's got a season on the green baitcaster, and no issues.

Do a little research, and you'll find some interesting, and enlightening results. Florida Sport Fishing will be a starting place.

Picking Up Grass Everytime
The Strike King Elaztec flukes float. While I like my Super Flukes, I use these when I want to slow it way down on top.

Fireline Crystal
Cortland Master Braid is even more superior. That fireline stuff is outdated. 12 carriers > 9 More carriers = weaker line.

Ford Ranger
My Nissan Maxima had a trunk pass through with the arm rest down in the back seat. Rods up to 8' fit perfectly. As for the car, decent gas mileage, plenty of power, a bit of torque steer and some understeer in hard cornering, but handled great for such a big car. Plenty of aftermarket toys for it too.

bearings
If you send them their bearing model # and the part# and reel model that it replaces, their list will get better. They can't possibly get to measuring bearings for every reel. All you need is a $10 set of calipers to measure bearings.

backpacker
The Pocket Rocket is money. I picked up a Kelty Mesa 4 on sale. I love the thing. I don't do a ton of backpacking, but I do camp for many of the tournaments that > 2 hours drive. Look for aluminum poles, and a simply set up. Common sense design features are usually already there in the $100+ range. Fourbizz's Alps is nice tent. A buddy of mine loves the MSR stuff, but its pricey. If your not in a hurry, hold out for a sale. As far as sleeping bags, Bizz probably offers the best advice, I still use a cheapo bag that is probably 10 years old. I sleep "warmly" as well. Sounds like I'm not the only one whose girl has "polar butt" ;D

abu garcia vendetta for flipping
You can pitch or flip with ANY rod and reel. Consider the cover you most often fish, and that will determine MH or H.

New line now or next spring???
No worries with braid. Flouro and copoly should be fine too. STore ina cool dry place. If you use KVD Line & Lure to pretreat the filler spools, they'll last a good long time. I buy big spools, and soak them with KVD L&L. Works great.

Hello Rain
I haven't ever made any correlation between rains, and cold fronts following or the quality of fishing. Sometimes they come, sometimes they don't. Same for the fishing after the rain. I've clunkers, and banner days. Must be a northern thing?

Virginia Safe Boating Requirement Clarified by DG&IF
What about out of state operators? I've taken the safe boating course (and then some) here in NY, and hold a valid NYS drivers license.

Ford Ranger
That's below Blue Book value and unfortunately that's what most sellers base their price on. That's a great deal, but I don't foresee finding many deals like that. Most educated buyers know that "Blue Book" prices are inflated. It is a sellers guide. Take a look at completed auctions on ebay, or try Edmunds. Your local Auto Trader will give you an idea as well.

ABEC7 Bearings
I have that bearing blaster, its just OK. A soak in acetone in a US cleaner is the best I've found. Now another product, The Greaser is great, especially for drivetrain and knob bearings, where speed is less important than smoothness.

Alberto knot braid tag end tied how?
No stopper needed.

Ford Ranger
I don't know if displacement is directly related to gas mileage on that truck. I know I get better fuel economy with my 6.2 than many get with the standard 4.6, despite EPA ratings. Get the best deal you can. Good luck.

Did you vote today?
In all but a few cases your letters, emails and phone calls are handled by staff and never read by your representative, except if you are a lobbyist, it's the same on both sides of the aisle. A normal ebb and flow of mid term election, the next one will probably be the reverse of this one. If that's true, then why am I getting phone calls from my elected officials? Maybe the local sheriff is your fishing buddy, but getting phone calls from U.S. congress people is highly doubtful unless you are a big money donor or involved in a major national story. One that comes to mind, being in Florida, is the Cuban child (Elian Gonzales) living with relatives when her mother passed and the Cuban government wanted the child back. The politicians were out in force visiting the home, but under normal circumstances I'd say don't wait by the phone. I didn't say I was contacted by a US congressman, you did. "Elected Official" was the term. You can get a whole lot more done if you think locally. State/County/town government. I'm surprised at your jaded, apathetic point of view. Perhaps its a New York thing, who knows. This country has a long standing tradition of activism. And LC Man, you'll never get that rule changed. Takes too long to grow a trophy Musky, only to have someone snag it from 6" water during the spawn, LOL.

Its these types of correspondence with people in power that got us the right to fish for bass year round in much of our state, overturning a policy that had been place for nearly a century.
