Show your best Smallies from last year!!!!
Kent, it was huge! That 3-12 was the most disappointing scale up of the year, LOL. I weighed it on two scales, because I didn't believe what it was saying. That fish fought so hard, and was so pretty....alas, post spawn fish from Conesus Lake. One of those elusive, shallow, cruisers. Contrast that fish to the 3-11 prespawn fish from Oneida. You can see the belly fat with eggs if you look closely.

Weights are a little unbelievable in some of the posts.... But congrats to all. Here's some of mine, weights where known. 3-12 3-5 3-11 3-1 or 3-2, can't remember 5-0

No, and I don't generally discuss small trout water on the web.

Predict Your Biggest Bass of 2010
50 Lb Stripper! You'd probably need to drug test that one. ...or check their ID. ;D As far as stripers go, as in striped bass...I know of at least three caught from kayak that were over 50. Several over 35...

I have to ask, why buy the trout, when you have the river right there? Make sure you contact the the multitudes of bait and tackle shops in the area for donations. You're gonna want to bring the lead in from outside NY - no lead sales here.

Line is "Jumping" on cast
That's pretty much it, except in the case of the newer Daiwa Mag-Z and Mag-V. The induction spool is centrifugally actuated, and works at higher spool speeds, similar, though not the same as traditional centrifugal brakes. However, there is still some minor influence at slower speeds, though I only notice it while spinning an empty spool in my hands.

aluminium v. graphite
not if they don't sell. You'll buy it if it says "Johnny Morris" on the side....admit it! i would never buy a reel that does not have a metal frame no matter whose name was on it. btw,i do like other rods other than my bps johnny morris.those american rodsmiths rods with the golf grips look nice.i like st. croix rods also. It was a joke, hence the smiley. Here's another: :-*

All you need is a bobber, some split shot, and a hook. I don't use fly gear at all. I get my flies from fish that broke off from fly guys. Some have more jewelry in their face than you see at a tattoo convention, LOL.

Will this rod work for Pike?
firefighn15, that smallie is the 2nd biggest I've ever caught. 5-0, caught on birthday, fishing with my buddy Burnie. He caught a 5-0 LMB about 20 yards away. he actually swung on this fish about ten times using a pegged beaver. While he was retying, I jumped on the TM, and stole it with a drop shot, LMAO. A reentry shot of the 3rd jump, and pretty much the end of the fight. you can see my rod buried, and her head turned in my favor. A couple of figure 8's and she was in the net. BTW, my PB is just 5-4, and that was from the 90s. ww2farmer, I have that rod, and it would work great for baits up to about an ounce. Its heavier than the MH rating, and makes a great stick for precision pitching in heavy cover. Once you go over that ounce rating, then you have to go to musky gear. I have a few big bucktails and double cowgirls, and they are beast to cast. that big pike above was not best by length, 37" and 13-8, but one of the fattest pikes I've caught. Last late summer and fall, the plastic pirates boated at least 20 fish over 10 in one special area. Mostly on bass gear, and with the very baits you described. Traps, divers, spinnerbaits. If you're gonna use spinnerbaits, use T-2S! Anything else is ruined, even by dinks.

whats ur weather looking like for this week??
We got nailed pretty good, definitely more like 18" than the 8-12" they predicted. that was pretty localized to the lake shore, though. As I drove south to work, there's snow, but not as much. Getting out of my driveway sucked this morning. They plowed the street and the sidewalk....had three piles of packed snow about 4' high.

Or brown. Don't make it a solid color. Break it into broken marks. Better to break up a solid color instead of just changing from one solid color to another. Jack I actually color 1/2 the spool like you and Wayne as well. Really helps when line watching, and it looks pimp! ;D

fav. pike lure
Northerns are usually turned on or not. It sometimes takes some agitation to get them going. I've caught many pike on slow sink swimbaits in the 6" range. The swim, stop, and twitch/turnaround move works pretty well. Just don't use the expensive ones. There are several bigger options out there as well, but require special gear to throw.

Pike, stripers, musky, and the best fight you've had was a smallie. Don't get me wrong, smallies are my favorite fish...I catch tons of them, and not dinks. While this fish was very memorable... These fish put up a bigger struggle:

stream fishing
Stream fishing....New Jersey....in February... Doubt you'll catch much on a Senko, let alone bass. Take a light power spinning rig, a bobber, some split shot, and a tiny jig, trout dough, or fly and drift the seams for trout. Rigging tips here: http://www.anglersinternational.com/accessories.html http://www.anglersinternational.com/Shotting%20Patterns.pdf You'll probably run into a few of these: The same method gets us these up here:
