J Francho: I found the "black goo:!
Sounds like a contamination issue ;D Actually, maybe that's the answer to the black goo. I'm not a "lobber" when I cast. I fire snap casts, with lots of spool speed, and stop the cast with my thumb. Maybe I'm forcing water in there. It rains here a lot too, and rain doesn't keep me from fishing. At any rate, at least I'm not crazy, LOL.

Pflueger Patriarch side plate removal.
There's a knurled thumscrew on the crankside. Loosen that, slide it out, rotate palmside so the front goes down, or CCW on a righty, CW on a lefty.

Will this rod work for Pike?
I really think anyone that would compare a pike unfavorably to panfish and bass doesn't really know what they're talking about, or is used to catching hammer handle size fish. Once they exceed double digit size, that long, double jointed spine of theirs has much more power. As far as Musky on UL gear, well, I'll just say nothing about that.... : :-X

New Englanders Better Check Your Beer Reserves
That makes me want to think twice about Cuse for grad school. I used to drive to Buffalo twice a week, and Syracuse once a week. Cuse by far was the sh****tier drive. I hated that run.

Will this rod work for Pike?
There are MUCH more qualified guys on here than me. I've got a couple years into half seriously chasing these guys, and really only during prime time. To give you an idea what you can haul in, here is a fish I caught with the MEDIUM version of the rod we're talking about. 8# CXX, no leader, caught on a JDM only color LC Flat Mini DR: Thought I had a nice bass on...turns out I was just picking up slack as the fish casually swam towards the boat. After he saw me, game on! Felt pretty lucky to get my Lucky Craft back. First cast after the release, yeah, I threw the same bait.

your favorite soft plastic jerk bait??
Shad Shaped Worm sink pretty quick. Makes it a good "hands-on" drop shot bait, and also great on a split shot rig. For flukes, I like plain old Zoom Super Flukes in Albino. I usually add some color to mimic local baitfish.

Wonder what the cold winter will do to the grass growth?
You need light, nutrients, and a bit of warmth. One warm, sunny spell would reverse the toughest of winters. Back bays turn to slop by May up here.

Biggest Mistake After Putting The Boat In The Water
I got our club's "Plug Award" this year for forgetting a hook box in my car, tearing apart my buddy's boat looking for it. Beat out one guy blowing up his batteries rewiring his trolling motor, another for yanking on his trailer hitch for 10 minutes before realizing the pin was still in, and yet another for backing the trailer right off the end of the ramp.

Highest Purchased Item on Ebay
Car, tons of photographic gear. Not really. In all but one purchase north of $2500, I spoke to the seller on the phone, or in person in the case of the car.

left hand flipping right hand casting???
No, I just buy a left hand reel for pitching.

Will this rod work for Pike?
Don't know why you aren't throwing big cranks with that rod...but yeah, it will work for Northerns, as long as you are using small lures (for pike) within the rods range. I also like it for small swimbaits, up to 3/4 oz. As far as "longer rods for bigger fish," goes, my pike jerkbait rod is only 6-6.

Texas Rig Setup?
It must be a 6' 8.125" rod, with specific deflection of 12"at 6 oz.. Gear ratio should be 23.785 inches per turn. Line diameter should be .012". Seriously, any reel that takes up 27 or more inches per turn (around 6:1) and a MH/F rod 6'6" to 7' will work fine. I'd use 12# CXX, but there are many line choices out there. The main thing: put the reel on the rod and see how it feels. Get the most comfortable rig.

Favorite Beer
Actually, that might be the exception to the rule, I have had it. Much prefer the bottled, though. You don't get the effect from the sediments from draft. Also, its just as good without the orange.
