Dropshotting
Hammer, are talking about the actual leader, or the dropper line, or distance from hook to weight?

World records live VS. artificial????
Didn't have to be: could have been an F1 (intergrade) If it was Florida strain it was transplanted one. George, the F1 or F35 is still a Florida strain if the lateral line pore scales exceed 66. The F in F1 = Florida strain. Don't get carried away with the "pure" Florida strain, we may not have any "pure" Florida strains outside of central Florida anymore. With all the bass water flowing north from Jacksonville, it's not a strecth to think interprizing anglers transplanted FLMB into Georgia. We planted NLMB into California back in the late 1890's and FLMB in 1959. My heaviest northern strain LMB was caught by in 1971 at lake Casitas and weighs 12 lbs 4 oz. I also cuaght a 18 lb 11 oz FLMB from the same lake in 1981, in fact with the same type hair jig off the same point. I'm just as proud of the 12 lb 4 oz NLMB as the 18 lb 11 oz FLMB because they are about equal trophy size bass. Both these bass are nearly the same length; 27 1/2" NLMB and 28" FLMB, the 6 lb difference is in the body girth! NLMB & FLMB are different bass. WRB No, the "F" stands for "filial." F1 is filial 1, or generation one in not so correct but simpler terms.

World records live VS. artificial????
But we're not talking about catching more fish, we're talking about catching THE FISH!!!!! LOL.

Re: Which reel for application
Your logic works, though you want to compare inches per turn (IPT), not gear ratios. There's a nice Citica in the Flea Market for $65. Better jump on it!

A quick trip the the Daiwa website should confirm that for you....http://www.daiwa.com/reel/baitcasting.aspx

Bass Fishing Yak
It depends on where your fishing. If you are in current that moves faster than 5 knots, you'll be going backwards in the PBG.

World records live VS. artificial????
Was it ever determined whether Perry's was a northern strain or Florida?

daiwa fuego
The Posse can object all they want....the E won't cast as well as a Fuego, out of the box. the E is relatively heavy compared to the Fuego as well. The two aren't really on equal footing anyway, one was initially a $230-250 reel, the other in the sub $200 range.

Caring for BPS Pro Qualifier reels
It doesn't? :-? Ehhh....some do a better job than others. Shimano schematics are pretty well detailed, and so are Daiwa. But what they don't show is order of assembly. For instance, in many Daiwa reels, its not clear that the drive shaft assembly, up to the AR ratchet must be reassembled before the levelwind can go on. Of course, this where breaking the reel down into sub assemblies, or modules as David refers to them. Not all reels will follow the same order, either.

World records live VS. artificial????
Oh, and anyone that thinks using live bait is simply a toss the bait in the right spot and wait game understands NOTHING about live bait fishing. All the same variables come into play - hooks, terminal rig, bait control, bait size, strike detection, etc.

The Fuego has Magforce-Z, and was designed as a light weight reel that could handle medium to heavy presentations. It will be perfect for the OP. The Sol has Magforce-V, and very light spool, and is ideally suited for light weight presentations. Both reels have robust drag systems, and are strong, powerful reels that handle heavy cover.

World records live VS. artificial????
There are several Black basses in the Centrarchidae family... Micropterus slamonoides, M. cataractae, M. coosae, M. dolomieu, M. notius, M. punctulatus, M. treculii. Taxonomy is an evergreen science, so it is not a stretch to consider a valid breakup of the two strains into their own separate spp. In fact the definition of just what a "species" is has been evolving with the advent of new DNA testing.

Dropshotting
Don't get caught up with drop shotting being strictly a "finesse" rig. Match tackle to cover, and you'll be amazed at how useful this rigging is. Gulp! Alive minnows and leeches Giggy Sticks (no need to trim them Roboworms (fat, short, long) Berkley Power Worms (4-10") GYCB Cut Tail Worms GYCB Shad Shaped Worm Flukes (baby to super) Senkos Paca Chunks I highlighted my favorites for smallies in open water.

bass rigs for saltwater?
Most guys I know shore casting from the beach use specialized gear for heavy baits, and REALLY long casts. Bass tackle is probably not appropriate here, not because of the salt, but because of the application.

Reel Mechanic Service
I wouldn't recommend someone start learning how to service a reel with a Calais. There are some tricky details just to get the body off the frame.

Bass Fishing Yak
I hate that I had that bag in the boat that day, but I was doing some product testing. I tanked it in my review: http://www.kayakbassfishing.com/kbfBB3/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=2407. Its junk. The Freedom 12 is a much smaller boat than the specs say. It tracks fairly well with the outriggers, and better with them out, and in the parallel position. The hull has a ton of reinforcement, and is much more solid than the PBG. Do not stand up in the Freedom 12 without the outriggers deployed, unless you want to go swimming. With them out, its like fishing from a dock. Only downside, is a lack of storage.

Has anyone read the.......
I know I would put a world record on ice, should I catch it (VERY doubtful), but is there a reliable set of keys to identify each species, and ensure live release?

which reel?
I fish my ITO hard. Right now its actually taped to my topwater/jerkbait rod, which I've been too lazy to trade in for a new one with a working reel seat, LOL. It looks like hell. Junk gets in the Lexan palm plate, and yes it has water stains. All of that goes away with a ultrasonic bath. It is by far the LEAST touchy reel, mechanically speaking, in my stable - always works perfectly. Same for my Sols and Alphas. Now if I actually had time to take care of my own reels.....
-
Line size
Neither. It just means it can hold up to what is stated on the box. Many break at much higher weights. Somewhere there is chart with break strength.
-
p-line
Just sharing data. In reality, 10# CXX feels "bigger" than other 10# lines. I don't know if its stiffness or what. I've been using P-Line for several years, nothing's changed that I know of.
