  1. I hear you... I try not to think too much about Pure Fishing's marketing strategy, LOL. I just don't care enough. As long as I can still get my black Power Worms.
  2. What's Shakespeare got to do with this? Shakespeare was under different ownership back then. Shakespeare has since been purchased by Jarden Corp and falls under Jarden's Pure Fishing umbrella just like Pfluegfer, Abu Garcia and Penn, among others. Sorry, the evidence is too great for me to believe Silstar/Pinnacle is not the OEM manufacturer of BPS reels and Pure Fishing companies. As of 2007, Tackle Tour reported that Pinnacle was the OEM producer for reels for the largest fishing tackle e-tailer. That would be BPS, no? If you've ever actually had a Pinnacle branded reel apart, next to a BPS and Pure Fishing product, you'd see the truth in this. They all have the same guts
  3. Pittsburg has 6 San Fran has 5 Dallas has 5 By my math, that leaves 29 teams. :
  4. I'd just fish the thing as is. Once you are comfortable, and can cast the light stuff, do each incremental upgrade,so you realize its full effect. One thing I'd do as SOP is go with Carbontex drag washers. That's a no brainer for any reel.
  5. There are other retailers selling the Sol for nearly as inexpensive. My local Gander had them at $140 recently. They also have Zillions at $187, Stradic MG at $130, and few other good deals. Yes, let's do some math....I agree, he's got it, so put it to use, but he'll need a good rod. Personally, I'd rather spend that money on a decent rod rated to throw lighter baits, as that is a bigger function in finesse than the reel. So called "finesse reels" just make it easier to cast light baits. Sanother siteBASSER, faster start up means easier to cast lighter lures.
  6. could you please elaborate? Its a tough role, and being new to the club, even tougher. You will never make everyone happy, and at some point someone will get ticked off. I recommend mentoring under an experienced TD, either as an assistant or some role closely related, like safety director or something, to learn the ropes. As TD, you'll have to make on the spot judgments and interpretations of the rules. You'd think it would be straight forward, but it isn't always. Its just a tough job, and although I commend anyone that steps up to the plate and takes on a higher role in a club, I don't think TD is the place to start. But who knows - you may end up being great at it.
  7. They'd all be jigs.
  8. You're getting set up. I'd mentor as a tournament safety inspector or somethin before taking that slot over.
  9. I'm sure those upgrades would help, but why not just get the tool designed for the purpose? A Sol does finesse straight out of the box. Of course, do some upgrades to it, and its even better. You're just playing catch up with the Fuego, making a square peg fit in a round hole.
  10. I'd recommend the the entire Sol schematic.
  11. You really can't go wrong with Reel Mechanic's oil and grease. Get the needle oiler, works perfectly. http://www.***/shopping/shop/store/reel-repair-supplies01.html
  12. Quantums, BPS, Pfluegers....who cares where they're made? They are definitely NOT Scottish, and you know what that means.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCrT96QJBfQ
  13. While I somewhat agree that most do not need bearing upgrades, I certainly do not agree that ABEC5 stainless are "better" then ABEC7 ceramics. "Better" is too subjective.

  15. Those are just parts upgrades...supertuning means much more than just premium parts.
  16. They are more than meets the eye.

  19. Here's a great article by my friend Burnie. We used these last spring with great success for prespawn largemouth that had moved up shallow, but not quite set up on beds. Spinnerbaits were met with a chilly response that day, but chatterbaits accounted for many fish. http://www.burniehaney.com/files/Whats_all_the_Chatter_About_NYBCF_Fishlines_Fall_2008_.jpg
  20. If you can accurately measure a bearing, you can upgrade it.
  21. Sorry I wasn't clear. I was honestly asking your opinion, since you've had exposure to much bigger bass than I. What you say is what I've always thought as well. I hope so, anyway....I've had quite a few 6+ fish in my hands, and I'd like to think they can get to 7 or bigger. It always comes down to compromise...I mean you are grabbing them to remove a hook from their face. I know you've seen my trout posts, and that's another ballgame. I've tried to release fish, only to have to run downstream to retrieve the fish, and try again, or simply take it home for the smoker. That'sfor another post, on another forum, though. Thanks for you input!
  22. Fourbizz, I trust your opinion on this, in the photo above, no chance of harming them, correct? I mean, I just don't see how one can avoid holding a bass vertically, unless you have a team of fish surgeons. I do think they look better in pictures held horizontal. My Western New York bass look huge that way, LOL. Oh, and perhaps the dude was using a weigh bag...who knows. I use them for big pike. Post a picture like this on an Esox forum, and you'll be banned on the spot, LOL:
  23. I guess I'm dumb too. If they specifically relate to what I'm asking about a certain product, and I trust them, then its a go.
