  1. Unless its an extremely streamlined bait, I doubt that it would rocket back at you through all the water. Possibly, though. I hate the idea simply because where I fish, there is a possibility of catching an incidental trophy of another species, especially in spring. 30 lb. Brown Trout wander the same waters that I fish, and I do not want that story to be about the one that got away due to using break away split rings that probably didn't pay for themselves.
  2. Its the same, but its 10000% times better with Smooth Drag's Carbontex and hand sanded metal washers.
  3. IDK about repel, lol ...I think we chase some of the the same smallies, and 3" gulp minnows and 3" yum dingers are about the only baits I'll dropshot...some guys from up your way cleaned house on a keuka tourny I fished last year on gulp minnows. I store all my gulps in the same quart container and have not had any problems with mixing them. That was a joke, brutha, LOL. Got to keep the goons off the scent trail ;D
  4. Another vote for the Daiwa Sol. I have two - great little reels.
  5. I own two Sols, an Ito Alphas, two TD-X103HSDL, two Black Widow II's (TD-A, Tierras), a few old silver Capricorns, and some other older Daiwa that I don't use anymore. By far the best Daiwa for the money is either a TD-A HSTA or Tierra. Really incredible reels for the coin. If you're going "whole hog," Zillions are about as good as it gets.
  6. If it was an access road, yeah that can be sketchy. Cartography is an evergreen process, and things change quite a bit. Even lake bottom contours can change more than you'd think. There are structure markings all over the Lake Ontario shoreline on just about every map I've seen, and I just laugh. NONE can be trusted. It only takes on good storm to totally change the bottom. The map is just a starting point.
  7. Woops, missed this. The Western NY guide is VERY helpful, though lacks details in some areas. No Port Bay detail? Maybe that's a good thing. Hotspots Maps make up the balance, there. I also bought the Northern NY version, but only for fishing Upper Saranac, LOL. It really was too much coin for one lake, once a year. The text and so called "spots" are useless. Like I couldn't figure out that the one point on the lake would be a "spot." Depths are close enough, though its the mental image of the lake that you want. The maps give you a place to plan your 1st attack. after you've fished, you can use the maps to keep track of what you did there. I also drop my waypoints in, as best as possible, just in case I lose them.
  8. Go for the download then, only $4! http://www.sportsmansconnection.com/downloads/newyork/downloadinfo/11769-Sacandaga,_Great/
  9. Every once in a while, I run into someone that doesn't like me fishing their dock. I usually ask if they don't mind, if they are within speaking distance. Some come running out and say to get out, or just stare. I'll ask if they prefer I not fish their dock. I had one guy actually change his whole attitude. One of those, "Since you were so polite...go ahead" deals. Most often, we just chat about where and what fish are biting, the weather, baseball, etc.
  10. Use the line that best fits the situation. In a general sense, 6" line on a spinning rod will serve you well. I fished some ultra clear lakes last summer, and couldn't buy a bite without switching to 4# fluorocarbon. Check you drag setting, and tie knots very carefully. Check them as well.
  11. No, they don't. Tackle Warehouse and Suquehanna Fishing Tackle do.
  12. Sportsman's Connection has a map of it. I checked my copies, but unfortunately, I don't have the CSE Adirondacks volume. Here is a link, though I think you can find them at Dick's or Gander for a little less. http://www.sportsmansconnection.com/newyork/fishingbooks/cseadiron/
  13. Inland or sea run trout?
  14. Send them to me, and I'll take a nice picture of them for you. It might take four months or so... ;D Seriously, post 'em, man!
  15. No, you're not alone. Try small mayonnaise jars for your Gulp! Alive. 3" minnows repel smallllmouth here, LOL,
  16. Take a look at the vests and packs that fly fisherman use. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/index/index-display.jsp?id=cat370015&navAction=jump&navCount=1&cmCat=MainCatcat20431&parentType=category&parentId=cat20431
  17. Leave the anti reverse on, and set the drag at 2-3# of resistance, and you'll be fine.
  18. Why not throw out a float rig with live bait on it, and while you wait for that to get bit, use another rod to fish artificials.
  19. Do not mix Junebug colored baits with any other colors...
  20. dmac14 - they have a few at Gander in Henrietta. I suggest you bring the reel you intend to use to check out how they feel. I don't care for the hardloy guides, at that price point I'd like to see Alconites.
  21. I knew someone would know the back story - thanks Mottfia
  22. They aren't worried about poachers - they just don't want bass anglers there. If they could simply ban bass fishing altogether, they would. This was the next best thing. Look at some of the asinine comments made by readers.
  23. I seem to recall it not being "flipping," but involved swatting the water with a pork leech or something. Sort of like burning a fluke in place.
  24. There is a review on TT: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewultimateluresaver.html Personally, I hate this idea. I prefer STRONG split rings.
  25. It took a LONG time for us to get that C&R season too!!! That's only a couple years old. Unfortunately, on Oneida (my home lake), the C&R season doesn't start until the first Saturday in May because of those darn Walleye guys cryin'!!!! it isn't the Walleye guys, its the OLA; http://blog.syracuse.com/outdoors/2009/03/poll_whats_your_thoughts_on_on.html.
