  1. Not really, actually pretty common to see kayakers out on the Great Lakes. Most of the time, you get rollers, not the hellacious waves you see in pictures. Some days it can be like glass.

  3. Me too. Until I started throwing them on the most ridiculous heavy action rod. Old Deep South flipping stick I bought from @SPEEDBEAD. years ago. He was too weak to cast it, so I took over. Awesome toad and frog stick.
  4. I bought my queen a spin caster. It was at least a gold cast and I painted the porch. That is worth 8 hours at the skatepark and two fishing trips. Pretty sure I’m buying a very expensive mic preamp though. It all works out.
  5. Drop Shot, where ever I found fish. Last time I was up there in late summer, it was in around 28'. You might have to chat up the locals, and do some graph work.
  6. Just a note, I personally go heavier because of all the strikes I'm likely to get from pickerel and northerns. The added diameter is a bit of insurance for bite offs. 12 is plenty for LMB.
  7. Toads are really good for this. Rage Toad, Rage Shad, Yum Tip-Toad are all good options.
  8. Yes, and just a few miles east of Dunkirk. Go up on Navionics Chart Viewer, and you'll see what I'm talking about.
  9. There's good fishing right out of Dunkirk. Battery point, or head further east to in front of the Catt. You could spend a lifetime dissecting what's just a ten minute run from there.
  10. For years, 17# Trilene worked fine. You wouldn't go wrong with that. Now I use 30# Supercast from Tuf-Line. Acts like mono on the reel, floats, and is zero stretch.
  11. Different lengths of rods I have used with jigs: 6-8 6-10 7 7-1 7-2 7-3 7-4 7-5 7-6 7-11 8 The point is, pick something you like. I like somewhere between 7 and 7-6.

  14. Vertical Drop Shot, up to 1/2 oz. Flick Shake/Wacky Jigs up to 1/4 oz. Panther Martin Spinners up to 1/4 oz. Grubs up to 1/8 oz. Tiny Jigs up to 1/8 oz. Wacky Rig/Neko 3" Senkos. Tiny jerkbaits. I'd use it for shakey heads up to about 1/8 as well, if I threw them any more. When the weight on any of these goes any heavier, such as a 3/4 or 1 oz. DS, then I switch to the MFX rod.
  15. 90% of the rods I bought myself are Avids. I love them, have a couple dozen of them. Not a fan of micro guides. The SCIII MLXF taper is pretty special.
  16. I pack two of the smaller speed bags in my crate.
  17. Demand. Most people want a 6-8 or 6-10 length. I have 2x 6-3 MLXF and MXF. I recommend adding the MLXF. It's a very special taper, and great for a lot of things.

  20. I would NOT want anything super slick. I had some kind of plastic bunk covers for my Xpress, and replaced them with carpet.
  21. I use straight Tuf-Line Supercast in 30# size. It's like the line was designed for topwaters.
  22. Mine is a single pipe, doesn't really growl unless you're over 3500 rpms.
  23. I fail to see where you mentioned starting anywhere! It's all good. Still my favorite quote.
