  1. He was looking to keep his bass boat moored at his lake house dock so he didn't have to trailer it every weekend, and could use a more fuel efficient vehicle. It was settled that the best option was a hoist. We eventually got a hoist at our cottage for the big bow-rider, but there were three other boats moored all summer. Just about every dock at the lakes I fish have some sort of boat moored to their dock. Many are bass boats. It's not the end of the world as many described. That fall cleaning is no worse than the spring wash, wax, and buff I give my trailered bass boat.
  2. We've left our ski boats moored to the dock all summer, every summer for decades. Every fall they get steam cleaned, washed, and waxed. Never the worse for wear. I mean, you don't see people "trailering" their 40' yachts, and yet they look nice and clean after normal maintenance.
  3. Glad you found it. A few updates ago that changed, probably since there is a renaming restriction, and the display name can be used to log in as well as email.
  4. You guys must be catching baby trout. All the ones I catch have tough, bony jaws, and I wouldn't want to lip them. Video shows the spoon with the hook mod, and if you listen carefully you can hear the "pop" when I remove the hook.
  5. Seriously? You're doing something wrong.
  6. Bass season opens up 6/17 this year. They'll likely be in post spawn.
  7. Sometimes I do the "change-up," where I feel just changing the color trigger a strike. It wasn't the that fish are on a specific color bite, but the new color was just something different.
  8. That's the mystery, and why color is usually pretty low on my list of what to pick. I do think larger, slower presentations call for better realism. You can define realism however you want - profile, action, color, etc.
  9. I thought this was shishamo:
  10. My centerpin is the smoothest reel I own. It has two bearings.
  11. No, but I think I know what Catt might be getting at. I'm color blind to blue and blue greens. I can't really tell turquoise from a teal, or blue green. They all look like various "blue" to me. Are they different? Yes. Measurable? Yes. Different to my pea brain? Not really.
  12. Another anecdotal experience: when I use a Hopkins spoon for smallies, I'll run into tons of gobies. I smack them off the hook rather then touch the slimy things, and this usually kills them, leaving a trail of dead gobies in the area. After a couple dozen gobies, if there's smallies in the area, yu can see them gobbling them up. Sometimes ignites the fish in the area.
  13. I replace all trebles with a singe siwash hook, and use an appropriate rated fast rod. I set the hook like I would with a spinnerbait. I think the whole "soft mouth, bony mouth" debate stems from size. Little trout can have soft mouths, but once they're mature, and over 15", I don't think you'll be lipping them.
  14. What an odd name for a product. Don't care for the green color either. Haven't had a chance to see these in person yet. There's plenty of makers out there using the ECS seat.
  15. I think it maybe four or five years ago, I put three Owner Cutting point trebles into my shin and calf. They were attached to an OG HPH I had Randall make me. Fish spit the bait, didn't feel them going in. I sure felt them coming out, though. That was my first real hooking, though I stuck myself a few times here an there over the years.
  16. I actually use an old cymbal stand. Works the same as any spooler tool I've ever seen.
  17. So much optimism! LOL.
  18. I wouldn't put too much faith in articles, videos, or any other tests of knot strength. One of my key points in my lectures is learning to tie knots well. My speaking partner Paul can't tie a Palomar worth a ham sandwich. I consistently get around 25-30% greater break strength than he does. Ask me tie tie his knot (some whack-o knot he made up) and he's back up to where my Palomar is. Point...Some knots will be well tied, some not. (get it?) To assume that one knot is better than the other because an article "proved" it could be a little naive, but it will give you a clue of what knot to learn. Personally, I can get away with only knowing two knots - Uni, Palomar. I have a friend who has several club records on Erie, and fishes a drop shot pretty well (I believe he has a 7+ lb. PB SMB), and he ONLY uses an Improved Clinch knot. Yes, with any line type on any bait. Never failed him. Go figure. Anyway, a Palomar fits this rig perfectly, is easy to tie, and you need a long tag end anyway for it, so why not get good at it?
  19. Aren't UV rays one of the first wavelengths to get filtered out by water? Most of what I've seen is bunk science, coating an object with some phosphorescent coating, and shining a black light on it to show you what something might see. Total fake science. Now, some older red paint getting replaced by another red paint, and all of sudden the lure doesn't work.....I've heard that tale before, and I believe there may be something to it, something we can't detect, but perhaps the fish do.
  20. Black and Red and Purple and Red are very popular colors up here. I generally do not talk to much about colors of jigs. It seems to really vary by water. My favorite jig color is a mix of colors, meant to pair with Ragetail's Bama Craw color.
  21. I think the confusion lies in what each eye can physically detect, and what that brain connected to that eye can perceive. No one really knows, though some assumptions can be made. The rods and cones aspect tells me more about why bass are very active during crepuscular periods - dawn and dusk - and their ability to adjust to changing light levels, and seeing "better" than their prey, but I'm not so sure specific color plays as big a role as bait companies will have you think.
  22. You're all full baked beans and Dunc's.
  23. That doesn't explain the jimmies......
  24. Siebert's Dredge Football jig is probably my favorite.
  25. You weirdos put jimmies on your ice cream! And what the heck is a "blinkah"????
