Up here, if you cut their tail off, you'll have trouble with the DEC. Altering the length is not kosher. If you want to bleed them, you sever the artery behind the gill plate. Look up gilling trout or salmon. Otherwise, and ice chest works fine. So does letting them go.

That would have nothing to do with uphill or downhill. Why are you toiling over this? What ever you figure out today may not be true tomorrow, or five minutes from now. Fish where the fish are, use baits that get to the fish, try different profiles, speeds, and finally colors until a pattern develops. That past few threads, you're over thinking.

With a spool speed of zero, it doesn't matter what reel you flip with, so long as it is sturdy and has a good drag. For pitching, spool speeds aren't fast enough got mag brakes to matter much. I pitch with with every reel I own, and they all work fine. The reels with centrifugal brakes give me the least trouble pitching into the wind.

For many beginners, most of this stuff is acedemic. For bored old hands, it's interestimg while we're stuck at work, lol.
