Spidey sense.

I use sharp hooks and don't wait for anything. If I "think" there's a fish on my bait, I set it. Note I said think, not feel.

White perch do not have horizontal stripes.

I shore fish lakes and ponds. I bank fish rivers and streams. The big key for me is to have a run of spots to fish. Fish aren't biting, try another spot. That might mean a short hike, hopping in the truck to another location. I sometimes come back to spots later as well.

Maico probably has a good story involving bass bouncing off his outboard into his accountant. Lol.

Redhorse suckers can go over 10 easy. White and long nosed, rarely over 5.

I use my flipping stick.

You set a frog hook with rod, not the reel. So long as the reel has a solid drag, and strong frame, it will be fine. A faster reel isn't going to help you, you gotta be patient and set the hook when the fish takes the bait.

Are you going to empty the trash bin you set out? If not, then it too is litter. It's probably best to gather up a few friends and clean up the spot before making a fishing trip out of it.

The best fish usually hit my ditches after the main run. The suckers don't really run with any rhyme or reason - if there's water, they show up.

I love it when guys use suckers to gauge a trout run. More river for me.

As far as I know, there's no law in NY prohibiting snagging carp. There are legit ways to get them to bite lures or bait.
