  1. Braid is over engineered, so really any 40-50# line will work. I like 50# Power Pro for frogs.
  2. I have a spreadsheet where I calculate per step expenses for all my footwear. Turns out barefoot is the cheapest, though ringworm and the random nail can throw a mokey wrench into the plan!
  3. If you say so, lol. Did your buddy tell you this? I'm not sure the ones I use, they're long, narrow, and just a litle nub at the top sticks out of the water. Wind is rarely an issue in the wooded ditches I fish. Though, I don't often use a pin in slow water. In fact I avoid fishing it at all, seems too much like flossing, and doesn't exploit the advantages of pinning, which is coving water using current.
  4. Docks up here are generally supprted by wood or metal posts. Many also have brush piles nearby. Lastly, a square bill can easily be tuned to run left or right by simply putting a slight bend in the metal loop for the split ring. This way, you can cast it parallel to a dock, and have it swing under the dock.
  5. Chris, do you know the number for when you declare your fishing in Canada waters? It's simple, you just call them and check in.
  6. Drennan floats are great for when you're dealing with casting into rocks where you might smack up a plastic or wood float. They are limited in design styles I can find around here though, and I prefer to use wood.
  7. It's awesome what you see the shadow, and it finally commits.
  8. Ravens and a couple hand turned ones I get locally.
  9. That last bit, and fishing coldish water (50s) water are when you'll want one. Otherwise, when the big motor is running, all a PFD is good for on my eyes is to have a body to bury. I wear mine 90% of the time anyway, though, it's a light auto inflate. How's that saying go A-jay? 50% chance of living after being submerged in 50 deg water for 50 minutes.
  10. If they're I the bottom doing what ever it smallies do when they're not on the rampage (making us look dumb) I go with a drop shot or jigging spoon.
  11. Suspending jerk baits, weighted flukes, big Sammy or Gunfish, tubes. Those are my game.
  12. For me, I want an Al frame, simple brakes, preferable Mag-V/Z or regular centrifugal brakes, quiet operation, and it needs to be reasonably light. All the other stuff, clicking this, indexed that, carbon fiber doodads, meh. I can soup up a reelyself just fine, and if it's going to besotted up, it'll be aftermarket parts, not OE parts made too look hipro.
  13. Yeah, there's the main marina and there's another smaller private marina if you want to go a little less busy. It's the same launch fee.
  14. Mykiss are nice too. Mykiss is the genus for steelies.
  15. Why do you need them all? I have one on the bow, and one at the console.
  16. Actually, the minnows themselves are pretty good fluke style baits. The kahle hooks and the rubberband contraption....meh. The same guy that makes the clone frogs invented the minnows, and he uses those hooks still, lol.
  17. I'm here, aren't I? What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
  18. If I had a "go to" lure that worked when all else failed, that would be the only thing I threw.
  19. I haven't bought a kit for fishing since the Banjo Minniw kit I ordered back in 1987.
  20. My cheap Aventa is going 6 years old. No issues. Caught tons of fish in it. Raven stuff is nice too.
  21. Three Letter Acromyms (TLA) aren't often allowed in fishing, unless it's WOT, FOW, etc. ROI isn't allowed.
  22. I'm more concerned with how the baits deflect off rocks or fish through cover than what sound they make. I'm not convinced it makes much difference.
  23. By no means am advocating against wearing a PFD, however, I don't see how wearing one would have prevented any of the injuries in this collision. In the second example, the father and two boys in a canoe, a PFD appears to be more critical. I've always felt it was backwards to wear it when your running fast in a power boat, but skip it in a small, paddled vessel. Seems like we get this backwards all the time. If I crash my bass boat while the big motor is running, I've got bigger issues than staying afloat. But it's easy to trip, hit your head and fall in when up on the deck. Just my personal thoughts on rules, and rationale behind the safety.
  24. Green sunfish, and as fake as fake can be.
