  1. That will just mean that tournament fish will be on a stringer instead of a live well. Short sited if you ask me.
  2. Yeah, because that polio thing was a hoax.
  3. From Duckett himself: Prize money is an aspect that's yet to be determined. For now, there isn't any. "That's the last thing to get worked on and we're not certain how that'll play out," Duckett said. "It'll depend on sponsorship, viewership and all that. This is a different deal with no entry fees, so there's no payout from entry fees. This is a business partnership and the company has to make money before any of the anglers do." Many of the participating pros are invested in the show itself. It's a TV product, not a tournament. There are no fees, it's by invitation, and there's no purse.
  4. I can't stand a clicking spool tension knob. One thing I dislike about many high end reels. Some do not allow the fine tuning necessary. Though they do stay put once set.
  5. How would I fish that spot? Frequently, lol.
  6. There is no prize in MLF.
  7. It's a television product, not a tournament. I like it, and it's cool to see how the pros react. Better than many of the cookie cutter fishing shows out there it's no Lunkerville, though.
  8. Do clear boxes make your bait clear? I think you'll be fine. "Worm proof" boxes don't bleed.
  9. Add one shim under the spool, and the issue should be resolved.
  10. Fordham is another term I've heard. There's very few production rods that have this feature.
  11. I've owned several Procasters in black, blue, orange and silver Capricorn versions, too. Very solid reels. I believe the Rojo had a flipping switch.
  12. That part shouldn't add very much at all it's no thicker than the thrust washer.
  13. I would agree with the pike statements as well.
  14. I suspect Dwight may do something similar, though Erie actually has interesting structure. For Ontario, the south shore in particular, I literally ignore the first 30' of contours, and focus on what is there from 30 to about 100'. Treat that 30' line like you would the shoreline, when visually locating fish. That doesn't mean I fish those depths, but that's where I try to focus my chart studies. Those structures are what affect bait movement, and predator location. It's not something you'll ever see staring at the graph - they're too big, miles big in some cases. I use the GPS to get within a few acres of where I want to fish, and the graph shows me fish, and/or bait. The fish might be in 15' or 45', but that zone I described above is what gets me to the general spot.
  15. I don't actually like the action of the 78. It does better on walleye with a straight retrieve than smallies. That might be an effect of wherei throw them - primarily Oneida and some of the canals best me.
  16. The bigger and slower I go, the more realism I want. Realism can be defined in many ways.
  17. aavery, I haven't paid MSRP for a reel since the early 90s, save for a Stradic CI4 that I just "had to have right now." I generally buy used or deeply discounted. So the answer is no, which is the same answer for pretty much every other reel I own. As far as would I search out a high end Pinnacle with my terms? I would now. But I think that's the point of Pinnacle putting these reels in our hands. As far as durability, I have a spinning reel ($100 Performa) that is three years old and an Optimus that is two years old now. Haven't really done anything other than oil the bearings and they're both holding up well. The spinner is a little heavy, but it's been a beast.
  18. In short, the Primmus palms like an Alphas type reel, casts like a 50e, and feels like a TD-X reeling in. They've sort of won me over. Wish they had some lefties.
  19. From what I can tell, hand tuning involves a multi point inspection and a proper lube set up. The hand tuned reels look like a reel I cleaned and serviced, not the usual grease slobbered all over and bearings over oiled. I have five reels, three are hand tuned. Of course, I've had every one of them broken down and personally inspected everything. The parts are quality, better than some big name brands oft cited here as favorites. Bullet proof construction seems to Bettie calling card of late. Take a look at my break down of a Primmus and a sub $100 reel side by side. Pretty interesting.
  20. Pinnacle and Silstar are one in the same and are OEM as well as private label manufacturers. Very nice review! I have a Prinmus as well. It's on a 7-3 H/F DHC7 rod that I use for frogging. The thing has been outstanding for me.
  21. Roll tears.
  22. Unless that model comes in a lower ratio, it usually doesn't work to try and swap gears.
