  1. I have this rod, and I prefer the slightly heavier reels on it, over my lighter ones. So far my favorites are a JDM Zillion and a Chronarch e with a Hawgtech handle. I do have the full cork version, so that may be a little different.
  2. Someone really likes that Alphas form factor....I do too. Very nice collection!
  3. Nope, my Bullet bunks are almost flush to the step, like yours. On my Xpress, the center two bunks stick out a half foot, and the outers are flush, but that's to help guide the tricky hull onto the trailer.
  4. Any stepped pad hull is like that. I don't think that really applies to the OP, who has a what looks like a mod-v hull.
  5. I'd like to see this type of capability built into standard screened units.
  6. The long handles don't bother me as much, but I fit that skinny guy description. I tuck the butt end under my arm, which is why I like a full rear cork grip. The kayak market is growing rapidly, and I think someone could really do well, working at a grass roots level to develop a line that would satisfy this group. You're not the first to have those complaints.
  7. The thumb isn't just there for the backlash. It also controls how and where the bait lands. I prefer to use my thumb. I've also watched Denny fish quite a bit, and his spool is pretty loose, if you look close. I'm guessing what they "say" they do is geared more at teaching others new to pitching. It's certainly the "safe" advice.
  8. Oh God, please don't leave me with a Carolina rig....
  9. Typical drive to work:
  10. Usually, there are no "bolts" on the other side of those screws. Almost always, they are just course thread wood screws.
  11. I fish from the bank, kayak, canoe, and bass boat. I can't really think of any rod in my collection I wouldn't bring for whatever I was fishing from. There's definitely some big differences in techniques, each specific to to what your fishing from, but really, I always use the cover present to determine what rods I'm going to use. 0119: just curious, what features would you like to see in a rod for bank fishing? What problems do you encounter? I know for me, spinning reels with long rear grips can be clumsy while sitting in a kayak. I've also always wanted to see a hybrid pistol grip flipping stick, but with a removable fighting grip, like many heavier fly rods feature.
  12. Awe man, losing a dog sucks. Sorry for your loss.
  13. I'd have a big problem, lol.
  14. You're from Pennsytucky, I wouldn't expect you to get it.
  15. The butts rest on the transmission tunnel, lean against the seat. The only rod I have trouble with is a 7'9" swimbait rod, and that has to run from the passenger footwell to the back, and even then it's tight. I have a GMC Sierra extended cab, so it might be a little different than the Ford, but should work..
  16. What he's saying is he picked one of two different ways to "index" all the posts. Database indexes work just like an index of a book, except the posts are database records, not pages, and the book is constantly being written, and rewritten - meaning the index is always being added to. Does that analogy work?
  17. I don't care if you give a pass on a shortcoming, or tank something for something totally unrelated to the manufacture, but you must quantify your opinion! Even if it's just, "I love/hate everything else about this reel."
  18. While some might think it's purely academic to achieve performance like I show on a Chronarch below, but I feel it shows that the reel has been set up to it's fullest potential. Use this reel fishing, and any shortcomings are operator related.
  19. 6" of ice and snow is a typical drive to work. Not even good enough excuse to be late for work, lol. BTW, it's 60 and overcast today. Feels like spring!
  20. BTW, that rod is on my deck in the pic to the left. It's the big swimbait stick. It'll be fixed (again) this winter.
  21. Any baitcaster. I have a spiral wrap like mentioned in the article. It didn't start that way, but my friend repaired the 1st guide, and low and behold - it's 45* off center - to the right. With a Calcutta 200b, Chronarch 200e, Zillion SHA, and a few other test reels, the line eventually stacks up on the right. I'm convinced this is bad design. On a reel with a narrow exit point from the guide - T3, Calais, D-series Shimano, older Quantums, this will be a bigger problem than just line winding.
  22. I pretty much explained the grooving issue back on post #27. The reel was placed on a poorly designed spiral wrapped rod, and then used to fish for peacock bass in the Amazon. I'm not sure why the author chose to list this as a complaint - on ANY other properly designed rod, there would be no issue. Personally, if you're going to do a spiral wrap, the first guide should be in direct alignment with the reel. ALL baitcasters are designed to work best this way.
  23. I don't think you'll be disappointed with Sniper, Brian. Before using Tatsu, it's about the nicest fluoro I tried at the time. It sort fell to the wayside, as I've tried MANY brands.
  24. No way I'd roll with my rods in the bed, even if they fit. I can carry at least a half dozen rigs in the cab itself, with room for passengers.
  25. Tatsu is very good. I tried the 17# AbrasX this season, and I like this line a lot, for a less expensive option. If you're open to something other than fluoro, 12 or 15# CXX copoly is a really tough line, and has served me well over the years.
