Chris I have the Helium 3 in a 7' light/med heavy/fast action. Its rated for 3/16 to 7/8 oz. The same blank is available in a BC version also. I think you would really like it for casting jigs. I have used it up to 1oz for jigging spoons vertically. It's a quality blank.

When you see lots of smaller pike beat up it is usually a result of spawn. I have seen 40" and over beat up as well. There are always bigger dogs in the system that play rough. I have also seen talons marks by raptors that tried to lift off with a pike in check but couldn't lift the weight. Pike are notorious for eating their own.
