Skeet Reese Rods!
Haha yea I get it...I guess I just like to try a lot of different rods. And I allotted so much money to spend at the Classic and it fell within my limit. But back to the point, has anyone go to try one out yet?

Do You Drink While on the Water?
I have absolutely nothing against drinking, but not in a boat. I consider it a vehicle just like a car. I actually think it can be a lot more dangerous than a car is if you were to wreck. But I am not opposed to cracking one open once the weigh in is over and bs'ing with the rest of the tournament goers.

Skeet Reese Rods!
So, after seeing everyone and their brother walk around with Skeet Reese rods at the Expo, I have to ask. How good are they? I bought one just to buy it (and for the free jersey ), but I live in central Michigan and can't really try it out for a few months . So I'm just curious has anyone that lives farther south strapped a reel on one and actually tried it out? As a poor college kid I can respect the life time warranty and the price point of the rods, but I don't always like to sacrifice quality if I can afford not to. So, what does everyone think of them?

All You Bankbeaters/Chunker/Winders
If he is, I'm not. Heck yes it will. Deep water is revelant though. Ten ft can be deep water in some areas. Thirty ft in others. Give me a deeper water pattern any day. I like what you are saying here. Granted I do think at certain times of the year, I will take shallow water and banks all day long. But I love love love to jig fish in 10-30ft depending on the lake, structure, etc. I feel comfortable to be able to back off if the flipping/shallow water bite dies off, knowing I can probably plug a few deep with a jig. Back to the Classic discussion though. I think this year I am going to buy a couple new cranking rods and try out some lipless cranks. I've always liked fishing them but just never had the confidence in them.

Jobs in the fishing field?
Alright. I am about to transfer to a 4 year college from a local college and have some questions that maybe someone here could answer. I would ultimately like to find a job involving fishing and outdoors. Now immediately the obvious thing that jumps out at me is the DNR. I am wondering what other jobs involving fisheries and fisheries management there are out there? And what type of degree I would need to fulfill a job requirement for one of them? Do any of you here work in the fishery and outdoor science field? Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hawg Hunt!
I'm not sure what the guys with the winning fish caught theirs on. We caught all our fish on lipless cranks and fat free shads. Which is strange because we talked to others who all used senkos and tubes. A couple said that they threw cranks for a while but couldn't even get a bite. We on the other hand couldn't get them to touch a senko, tube, or jig. It was very strange fishing conditions. The fish we found were in 5-10 feet of water with nothing but sand all around. I figure that they were cruising around looking for food and our cranks conveniently crossed their path .

Hawg Hunt!
The annual hawg hunt has come and gone again in Northern Michigan (Indian River) on Burt/Mullet lakes. These are easily some of the best smallmouth fishing lakes in the State. I know KVD and some of the other Toyota guys were up there about this time last year, and from what I've heard try to come at least once a year. The bite was a little tough because the lake was just starting to turn over but the winner almost beat the tournament record of 6lb 12oz. This is the 6lb 10oz pig that won it all. We only caught a 4lber but we still had a good time. Also...mid 30's + 60mph on open water = really cold. Bundle up! My eyes still froze, so I had to wear my sunglasses at 7am.

Saginaw River
The PWT (Professional Walleye Tour) is in my hometown today for their Championship Tourney, so they are launching in the Saginaw River and going out to the Saginaw Bay to clean up on the walters. Me and my dad helped the state park build spinners for the kids but didn't have to be there until noon. So we thought, what better to do than fish the river for some spawning smallies before we had to work? Of course in our excitement we left the new shiny camera on the dash of the truck, but we did have some success. We fished for about 3 hours and caught 4 and lost about 6. It was pretty much just throwing into obvious spots for beds because of how muddy the Sag. River is, but it was still a good time. My dad caught about a 4 pounder and my biggest was about 2 1/2 - 3.

Starting your boat...
The PWT Championship is in my hometown this weekend so the Mercury rep is here. Me and my dad went and talked to him and he helped us out greatly. For anyone that is wondering. He said not to give it gas. He said to first prime the bulb, then turn the key to on, not actually turning the motor over, and hold in the choke for ten seconds. After that turn it and it should start after a few seconds and stay running. I think he said it's ok to give it a little bit of throttle if it's really cold and wont stay running no matter what, but said that should be a last resort.

Humminbird Side Imaging - What's your take on these?
Thanks alot. We just bought a 787 for the front and we will be getting a SI unit, not sure which one yet, possibly at the end of this year. I know he doesn't want to drill any holes so we'll probably just mount it to the jackplate then. Do you know if there are instructions on ways of mounting it to the jackplate online that I could check out before buying it?

Charlie Moore Revisited
Now don't get me wrong. I think he knows how to fish and all, but I think he's the type of guy I would rather sit around a campfire and tell stories with rather than watch on TV all day. Saying that though, I have to respect what he has done with his career. It's not easy to go from working at a landscaping company to having your own tv show on a hit channel like ESPN. If his style and attitude gets fans to watch the show, he's going to make whomever is sponsoring him money, and that's all that matters. Keep freakin Charley!

Humminbird Side Imaging - What's your take on these?
My dad is looking into getting one of these but it worried about drilling holes in a fiberglass boat, he really doesn't want to have to do that. Is there any way to mount this inside the hull or on a separate part of the boat that you don't have to cut holes in the fiberglass?

Will bass die if they swallow plastic worms?
A guy weighed in a fish last year in one of our club tournaments with a rubber worm sticking out of it's bottom.

MI Opener is getting close!!!
My family has a seasonal lot on Alcona Dam Pond and last weekend was the first weekend we cut move the trailer to the lot. We put the dock in on Saturday and didn't even bother battling the gale force winds that were up there (almost tipped the trailer and ripped a few awnings off). Sunday was better, although a little colder. I got 4, 2 Largemouth and 2 Smallmouth, in about 3 hours. My dad caught 1 smallmouth. They were all average size. One of the smallies was full of eggs just off of a spawning flat so they are definitely on the move. On largemouth was caught right around the same area, she was full also. Water temps ranged from 56 to 59. It was just good to feel a bite and set the hook again. Going out early tomorrow to Sanford Lake to start prefishing for tournaments starting at the end of this month.

Starting your boat...
What techniques do you guys/gals all use to start your bass boat. We have a newer Ranger with a 150 Mercury XR6. Do you choke it until it turns, then start giving it gas? Or do you just give it gas from the getgo even while you are choking it? I know some people like to try to turn it over out of the water, but I would never ever do that with a marine engine.

Shortest fishing trip in history
OUCH! That's never fun getting a hook anywhere in your body. We were returning from a fishing trip quite a view years ago when my little brother took a hook to the head. My older brother had left a Chug Bug tied on his rod and my little brother laid down to take a nap and, well, laid right down on it. . It went past the barb so we had to take him to the emergency room, but he turned out fine.

Post Pics of your Bass Rig
It was so beautiful last week that we decided to get the boat out of storage here in Michigan. Oh, and we had to get pictures with the new camera .

Scratch Removal...
Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I think I'll look into some of the 3M products, they seem to be doing exactly what I'm looking for. I have some new pictures of the boat to post soon, we finally got her out of storage and she will be on the soon hopefully. Except my dad broke the trolling motor taking it apart, for what reason I'll never know, so we have to get a new one of those. littlefisher

Scratch Removal...
Yea I really don't want to do any sanding, just maybe something that will make some of them a little less noticeable.

Scratch Removal...
Just curious if anyone has a good scratch removal product for a fiberglass boat? I mean I'm not looking to do miracle work here, but there are a few scratches on our boat that I feel could be worked out easily with a little help from some sort of compound. What do you all use for big or little scratches/scrapes?

Bill Dance
Hey Bed, my sister works there as a research technician. I'm gonna have to ask her about that as she probably saw him around... it's a big hospital though, but she may know something. I know a lot of famous people bring their children or family there, as it's one of the top children's hospitals in the country. Sorry for the hijack fellas, just found it interesting... back to Bill Dance. I think Bill is one of the most detailed pros I watch. He really picks apart the situation and is always providing you with information even when he's not landing fish. His shows have taught me a lot about weather patterns, bait fish, structure, line, baits, etc. He is one heck of a bass fisherman. He is very detailed. I remember the show where he had the formula up for how long your trolling motor will last and how far you can go based on thrust and voltage and what speed you have it on. My head was spinnin. :-?

Coming to Orlando
Just got home from Orlando, and boy is it cold up here in MI. Had a great time with Dave fishing. I didn't catch anything worth writing home about really but it still felt good to catch 7-8 fish in March. Seemed like most the big fish were pretty lethargic from the previous cold nights, but that's why it's called fishing and not catching. I look forward to possibly fishing with him again next year.

Coming to Orlando
Gahh!! Only one more day! Then I will be in beautiful Florida and some day after that, I will be bass fishing with badhabit!! Wooot. 9 days in Florida is really doing to make it hard to come back to snowy Michigan.
