this may be the dumbest question ever asked on this board but
which way should you hold your rod for a good hookset, with the eyes facing down towards the water so all the pressure when setting the hook is on the eye, or with the eyes facing up so the pressure is on the rod?

did i make wrong decision during tournament?
i fished my first tourney today 7-1:30 around 7:45 i caught a nice 3.5 lb largemouth sweet beaver c-rigged, but he was bleeding like a stuck pig, i mean my hands and boat were covered with blood and big clots to, i decided to cut most of the hook with my diaganol pliars and release him, and he swam away slowly but still alive, hoping the fishing gods would take care of me later, my partner wasnt too happy about that and after fishing another 4 hrs before my next fish neither was i, there is a 8oz penalty for a dead fish, during weigh-in 3 people brought in dead fish and you can hear the whispers in the crowd about the fish being dead, what would you have done?

Fishing on very windy days
are there any coves? personally i would be chucking a spinnerbait along the shore and fishing fast, do you have a windsock to slow you down a little? if not i would use my anchor with a lot of rope, hopefully it will be a straight north or south wind so you can fish one side, windy days can be a blessing sometimes, imo goodluck

Topwater lovers checkin
i have never caught anything close to 7# but i would suggest 1. big black broken-back [jointed] jitterbug 2.either ragetail shad or frog 3.buzzbait with trailer hook if the bass short strike i would follow up with a wacky rigged senko, just my opinion. good luck

Most horrifying boat trip ever
glad you are ok and nobody got hurt, reminds me of last year, my buddy from mass and his wife came up to nh. we decided to take my 16' boat out, the weather channel said chance of rain 30%, yeah right we thought, we went out, not a cloud in the sky 45 minutes later we start catching fish after fish, then the heavens open up, the winds picking up we hurried to a cove and tied off to a tree and waited the storm out good thing there was no lightning, one of the scariest thing i ever saw.

anybody use 10'' or 11'' worm during the day??
thanks for the feedback everybody, my wife and i went out, i only caught 1 bass on a shaky head, no luck on the tmack i did downsize on the hook using a 5/0 ewg but no luck, but we did rescue a boater with his two daughters, we were fishing and my wife saw a boat that was smoking pretty bad and a guy waving frantically, so we went over to investigate, his fanbelt had snapped causing the motor to seize has to tow him in, pretty funny my 1986 16' mirrocraft towing a 20' bayliner,

How long(ft) can i cast per weight(oz)?
i have the same reel and i love it, may i suggest keeping 4 of the brakes on while learning to cast with a 1/2 oz plug, then once you get used to it go to 2, i also had the dial on 6, and the knob next to the handle kinda loose, once you get used to it she will scream,
