  1. I currently have a Curado 200E7 mounted on a 7' MH BPS Carbonlite for larger spinnerbaits, 3/8+ oz jigs, frogs, etc. The combo works fine and I have no real complaints, but lately I've had an urge to own another round reel and the Cardiff 100A looks pretty good. Is there anyone here with experience with both reels that can give me an idea of how the two reels compare in the casting department, more specifically casting ~1/4 oz lures? I rarely use the Curado now, so buying a Cardiff and another rod to put it on isn't an option.
  2. The Cardiff 300a only weighs .2 oz more than the Revo S. It's a taller reel than the Revo which will have an effect on the overall feel of the setup, but I definitely wouldn't call it heavy. The Cardiff 200a that the OP asked about is actually lighter than the Revo S, and quite a bit lighter than any comparable Abu round reel. I'm no Shimano fan-boy, but I'd go with the Cardiff over an Abu.
  3. If line capacity isn't an issue (and it rarely is when bass fishing), ignore the reels' model numbers and focus on the weight of the reel and how it feels when mounted on the rod. One manufacturer's 1000 might weigh more than a 4000 from a different company. Case in point - I have a Ryobi Zauber 1000 that weighs almost 10 oz (280 g = 9.88 oz) and a Pflueger Supreme XT (9235XT) that only weighs 8.6 oz. One of them might look more appropriate on a 7' MF rod, but the other does a better job of balancing the combo.
  4. Which weightless plastics will you be throwing? If you're talking about Trick Worms, Finesse worms, or 3"-4" Senkos then I'd say 6'9" ML/XF Avid. If you're talking about weightless 5" Senkos, then I'd recommend the 6'8" M/XF. I'd also steer clear of the Rage. Lots of complaints regarding build quality, and somehow St. Croix managed to take an Avid blank, add a smaller/lighter reel seat, smaller/lighter guides, and a foam grip and wind up with a rod that's heavier than the Avid.
  5. Your idea is sound, but it's not worth the time/aggravation, imho. Personally, I think people get too hung up on the cost of braid vs. mono. I (like many others here) spend way more each year on lures that'll never touch the water than I do on fishing line, so the price difference between one type of line and another is a non-issue for me. I do about a half-dozen wraps of mono for backing, tie my braid to it with a uni-uni, and fill the rest of the spool with braid. I like knowing that I can go fishing and snag a lure in a tree, break it off on a stump, cut out multiple wind knots, have a turtle steal my lure, etc and still not have to respool.
  6. So, what's the story with the warning points? Is it just a way to ban people quicker?
  7. If I'm reel shopping and have narrowed my selections down to 2-3 models with comparable prices/features/performance, then color or appearance might be the deciding factor. It's never high on the list of priorities when reel shopping, but I have been known to pass over certain rods due to their appearance...like Ducketts, W&M Skeet Reese, and those hideous orange things.
  8. This is pretty much how I do it as well. I use just enough mono to wrap aroud the spool about a half-dozen times.
  9. I've said it before and I'll say it again - this is the most over-moderated forum I've frequented in the 15 or so years I've been online.
  10. Google images shows them in a bag (like most Gulp baits) or in a tub. I believe the ones you linked to are in a bag since they're listed as having only 4-8 in a package.
  11. Harp Lager, Sam Adams Boston Lager, Yuengling, or Birra Moretti if I'm looking for something a bit lighter.
  12. The President is a safe bet, and if my PQ starts giving me problems I'll most likely exchange it for one. Another reel that might be worth looking at is the Falcon Volt. I had an opportunity to handle one when I picked up my PQ and it was surprisingly smooth, solid-feeling, and had very good fit/finish. They're a bit more expensive than the President and Orra S at $80, but I have to say, I was impressed with what I saw and felt.
  13. I picked up a new PQ spinning reel a few weeks ago, but have only used it a couple times. Mine is pretty smooth and seems to have no problem handling 10# flouro, but some people feel it's a bit on the heavy side at 10.4 oz. I was also pondering the Orra S and President before I bought the PQ, but the combination of the PQ's sale price ($50) and a $10 off coupon made the deal too good to pass up.
  14. Actually, that was their normal price until recently. The price has recently been increased to $80, but there are still a ton of them in Dick's inventory with the old $70 price tag.
  15. Dude, seriously? You revived a two year old thread to post this ^^^ ?
  16. The new Carbonlite reels are black. http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Johnny-Morris-CarbonLite-Baitcast-Reels/product/1110020501438/274206
  17. x2 Not only is the Mojo nowhere near the LTB or Avid in sensitivity, they fall short of many of the other rods in the $100 range. I actually recommend the Triumph over the Mojo, as the sensitivity is more in line with many of the current $70 rods.
  18. My dream combo? Jamie Eason and a cabin in the mountains. As far as fishing gear goes, I'm with SirSnookalot. I'm comfortable with what I have, and with the exception of replacing my travel outfit due to breakage, I've pretty much stopped looking at new gear.
  19. x2 I have a TomTom that works well, but I got a bit lax about updating the maps and now they want to charge me almost $100 to bring it up to date. Looks like I'll just have to deal with the old maps.
  20. Apparently he didn't know about Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law.
  21. They also offer that same length/power/action in the Avid line as well. I haven't owned an LTB, but I have owned the Mojo and Avid versions and there's a huge difference in weight and sensitivity between the two. Overall, there's a huge difference between the Mojo lineup and the Avids, but I've read in numerous places that the difference between the Avid and the LTB isn't as noticeable.
  22. I caught a little Smallmouth Buffalo (about 8# or so) while kayak fishing Kentucky Lake. Impressive power for a fish its size. Stupid thing pulled liked a tractor.
  23. If you're just looking to save some weight, you could try the Ugly Stick Lite or the Shimano Voltaeus. If you use a circle hook, you won't have to worry about feeling the bite. They'll take the bait and hook themselves when they run.
  24. It's my understanding that BPS' reels are made in the same factory as some of the Pflueger reels, but they are not made by Pflueger.
  25. Thank you. I was just getting ready to post something very similar.
