  1. I don't think the Rage Tail stuff sells well in certain areas. I've been watching the selection of Rage plastics at my local DSG get smaller and smaller since they opened the store a couple years ago. As a matter of fact, I believe they could display their entire RT inventory on an aisle end-cap, while Zoom products take up an entire aisle.
  2. I like a ML/XF for weightless/floating worms, inline spinners, dropshot, small finesse plastics.
  3. I've had to do it on every St. Croix rod I've owned.
  4. There's just no way they could stock every single item from the catalog and website in their brick-n-mortar stores without building a store the size of Sam's Club or Costco. The retail locations stock what sells (or what they expect to sell) in their region, and for them to do otherwise would foolish. Inventory that doesn't move is money wasted that could've been used to turn a profit on something that will sell.
  5. Yup. Motor came out of a spotless '74 CB750K with ~22k on it.
  6. Give the threads a couple wraps with teflon tape before you tighten it down. It'll keep it from loosening but won't leave any sticky crap if/when you decide to remove it.
  7. If you were impressed by the 6'6" MH casting rod, that 6'8" MXF spinning rod will blow you away. Excellent rod.
  8. If you read the reviews, it seems as though the majority of the negatives are from people who have owned the previous versions and prefer the cork grip. In my opinion, if you've never used the previous version, the new one will most likely serve you well...especially in an UL. If you really want to save a few bucks, the MicroLite Glass is only $20, and is available in several different lengths. There's nothing like battling a fish on a fiberglass UL rod.
  9. That used to make me laugh every time I was out riding. The Harley guys would wave when they saw the 20" ape hangers and feet up on forward controls, but then they'd do a double-take as I went by...
  10. Depending on the age of your MicroLite, you may want to jump on the Bionic Blade just for the higher quality guides. Last year (or the year before) BPS started using the cheaper all-metal guides on the MicroLite instead if the aluminum oxide inserts they originally used. The new ones are lighter, no doubt, but I question their durability.
  11. Actually, your rights regarding the use of deadly force to defend your life or the lives of others vary from state to state. If you're going to carry a gun, make sure you know the laws in your state. http://law.justia.com/
  12. I'd stop by the dealership, but not just to complain about their mechanic's lack of attention, but to return the tool. Mechanics generally pay for their tools out of pocket, and I'm sure he'd like to have his pliers back.
  13. Emmrod Packer The orange one above is mine, but I wanted to show what it looks like when it's broken down so I "borrowed" the other pic from someone else. It's not an ideal rod if you need to feel what your bait is doing, but it's an absolute blast for catfish or bluegill...and it'll easily fit under the seat in a compact car or in an overnight bag along with a small box of terminal tackle.
  14. This is a common problem with some of the entry-level St. Croix rods as well. It's a simple problem to fix, though. Unscrew the reel seat all the way and then put a couple layers of teflon thread tape (the stuff for plumbing) on the threads before mounting your reel. It'll keep the seat from coming loose, but won't leave any residue on the rod if you decide to remove it.
  15. Yes, it'll fit on a "standard" spinning rod, but I would strongly encourage you to go to a store and handle one in person before plunking down the cash. I had an opportunity to handle one yesterday and was immediately turned off by the size and shape of the knob on the handle. It's much, much larger than I had expected, and just felt weird.
  16. I've sold off all of my more expensive rods and replaced them with Carbonlites and a Browning HiPower. I also keep a 2-piece BPS Extreme in the car/truck for those spur of the moment fishing excursions. So far I've owned: 2 MicroLite Glass (5' UL spinning) 2 MicroLite Graphite (7' ML & 8'6" ML Float 'N Fly spinning) 4 Extremes (6'6" & 7' MH casting, 6'8" ML & 7' M spinning) 5 Carbonlites (6'6" MH, 6'8" MXF, 6'9" MLXF spinning, 7' M & 7' MH (micro) casting) 1 Browning Hipower (7' M spinning) 2 Johnny Morris Signature Series (6'6" MH spinning and 6'10" MH casting) They may not be the best choice for everyone, but I find the cost/performance to be just about perfect for me and the way I fish.
  17. This^^^^ I look for 29"-33" IPT, regardless whether it's spinning or casting. So, if I were in the OP's situation, I'd opt for the 7.1:1
  18. The value of human life varies from one country and/or culture to another, but that kind of stuff happens here in the US, too. I remember seeing a woman driving a ragged-out t-top Cutlass down a fairly busy city street while her kids stood on the passenger seat with their heads sticking out of the t-top.
  19. I'd give it a shot for that price. Heck, I still have several spools of Ugly Braid (yes, Ugly Stick braid) that I picked up for about that same price. It fades kinda quick, but other than that I've seen no difference between it and my usual Power Pro. Try it, you might like it. Worst case scenario, you hate it and use the remainder of the spool to tie up tomato plants, or just throw it in the trash. We've all wasted more than that on bags of soft plastics that we'll never use.
  20. I was at my local BPS this morning and ran into a guy on his way to the register with an arm-load of stuff. He said he had come on looking for a bag of plastics but wound up buying a rod, reel, lures, line, etc. I live about 15-20 minutes from BPS, and used to go there quite a bit. The novelty has worn off though, so now I only go when I really need something. I've bought so much stuff over the past few years that I really don't even enjoy browsing the aisles like I used to. Now I just run in, get what I need, and get the heck out ASAP.
  21. It's similar in design and may share some internal components, but they're quite a bit different externally. The frame of the PQ models are substantially larger and they don't have the standard Pflueger spin-on handle. The PQ handles attach like Shimanos with the retaining cap on the opposite side.
  22. Front drag. I rarely have to adjust my drag while fighting a fish, and in some (many?) cases front drag reels have larger diameter drag washers.
  23. I owned a President XT for a while, but the wooden knob on the "standard" President always turned me off. I can tolerate it on my Trion because it was so cheap ($30), but I actually removed the knob, stretched one of those neoprene pencil-cushion thingies over it, and trimmed it to length so I wouldn't have to deal with the wood. Wood does not belong on a reel. Ignore my filthy carpet...
  24. I appreciate the response. I've been using Pflueger reels for just about all of my spinning needs for the past couple years now, and the PQ would be replacing a Trion GX-7 that has taken a bit of a beating but still works great. I'm just in the mood to spend a little bit of money. I know the President is a sure thing, and it's definitely on the list to look at when I hit BPS, along with the Orra S.
  25. I'm looking for another inexpensive ($80 or less) spinning reel to mount on my trunk rod, and saw that BPS has their PQ spinning reel on sale right now for $50 (normally $70). I have a coupon for $10 off any purchase over $30, so it would only set me back $40 plus tax. Anybody have experience with the PQ spinner? I was going to pick up an Orra S, but this seems like a better deal and would leave a few bucks in my pocket. What do you think, is it worth $40? http://www.basspro.c.../10205014/80807 Edit: Before someone comes along and recommends a Sonora, Sedona, or Sahara, I'm not interested in Shimano anything. Been there, done that.
