Fireant commercials LOL
Just wait. They'll make it up there eventually. I can only hope you are wrong. They're steadily moving north, just like the armadillos. If you're the impatient type, I could toss a scoop of them in a padded envelope for ya...

Field trip to BPS here in Orlando.....
I live about 15 miles from the Atlanta BPS, so I go fairly often. After a couple dozen trips, it's no longer exciting. For me, it's kinda like going to Kmart or the grocery store.

when do you keep bass?
x2...or 3 I never keep them. Even if they're bleeding, dying, or dead, they go right back into the lake. Something will eat 'em.

for you rock fans
Eh. Not really doing it for me. :-/

What's your "guest" rig?
My "loaner" now is actually a Shimano Symetre 2500FI on a 6'6" MF Shimano Crucial. The reel is smooth, reliable, and almost bullet proof. The rod is light, sensitive, and has a lifetime warranty. I can relax and not worry about the guest breaking anything, and they can't blame their lack of success on the equipment. ;D

That site is great! Now I can play "Walmart Bingo" from the comfort of my home. ;D

Mike Ike and his rods
The most expensive rod in your arsenal isn't always the best choice for a given presentation or technique. There's an awful lot of brand snobbery in fishing (even more so on fishing forums) and sometimes it clouds our judgement when it comes time to choose the right rod/reel for our intended use, skill level, and budget.

Lure Pass #1 About to kick off!
We're also not required to take anything from the box. If there's nothing in there that catches your eye, just box it up and send it back out. I have a hard time believing someone could look into a box of misc. tackle and NOT find something interesting, though.

gear ratio help...
IMO, the reel's IPT is more important than its ratio. First, spool it up with a few yards of cheap line. Loosen the drag, pull off about 3-4 ft of line, and mark the line at the level wind with a black marker. Turn the crank one full revolution and mark the line again at the level wind. Measure the distance betwen the two marks and you've got your IPT.

gear ratio
I guess I like mine a bit faster than the other posters. I use a 7.1 for my shallow spinnerbaits and a 6.4 for my deeper spinnerbaits.

Glass or Graphite am I understanding the diffrence?
That's generally true, but the sensitivity of some of the graphite/glass composite rods currently on the market is very impressive. At the risk of sounding like a commercial, the Kistler Magnesium TS composite crankbait rod would change the way you think about glass rods.

MLB bad umpire calls
You'd think so with the amount of time he spends on the DL.

MLB bad umpire calls
well, the Braves gotta win some how ;D No doubt. They sure can't count on Chipper to knock in the runs. :-/

MLB bad umpire calls
I don't see anything wrong with the calls... as long as they're in the Braves' favor.

3 hours
That's actually Discover Mills Mall. The Mall of Georgia is in Buford and has a Dick's Sporting Goods with a pitiful fishing dept.

Terminator Spinnerbait got Terminated with just 1 fish!
Yup. Terminator uses the absolute cheapest split rings on their blades. The last one I bought was not only ultra thin and flimsy, but it had also started to rust while in the package. I actually had to steal one off of an old $1 Walmart SB that I had in my "overflow" box. >

Catching fish in small ponds
The majority of my fishing for the past couple months has been in a 2-3 acre county pond. It's highly pressured, but from what I've seen, very few of the anglers who fish there are actually successful. I, however, been very successful there using these: http://www.northlandtackle.com/Product/product.taf?_function=detail&_ID=615&pc=281 in the Green Sunfish color, rigged with an 1/8 oz bullet weight and a 2/0 offset (not EWG) hook. I cast it out, hop it back like a shaky head rig, and they tear it up. It's so easy, it's almost boring.

Kistler Mag Crank Rod 6'6" Medium
I have the 7' glass/graphite "Alton Jones Crankbait Special" (MGAJCBSGGM70) that I use for shallow/lipless cranks and it's a really great rod. It's a M/MF and not too "whippy" so I can actually use it for smaller spinnerbaits, if I choose to. It's also extremely light, and very sensitive for a glass-composite rod. All in all, one of my better purchases.

Does sensitivity on rod really matter?
Paint it a bright color, give it a clever name, and the masses will flock to it. ;D Don't forget to make it a split grip. That's what the duct tape is for. Duh! :

which baitcaster?
You got hosed. I was at the big store today and they had the new pro qualifier reel in black with metal flake on rods from 6'6 to 7'0 for $99.99. you sure you seen the right reel. cause mine is an all silver reel. Yes. It was the new low profile pro qualifier reel with a black metal flake paint scheme on a house rod for $100. BPS sells a couple different versions of the PQ rods and reels. There's the silver version of the reel that retails for about $100 and the matching PQ rod that goes for about $140, and then there's the "Pro Qualifier LTD" which is a completely different animal. They're typically offered as a combo around the holidays, and imho, is really just a classic case of bait-and-switch. They know people will recognize the PQ name, see the low price, and jump on the "deal" thinking they're getting a $200+ combo for <$100, but that's not the case. This has been discussed many, many times on the BPS forum.

Pistol Advice
FWIW, being under the influence of ANYTHING makes your permit void. In many areas, it's actually printed on the permit itself. If you plan on drinking, leave the pistola at home.

Spinnerbait w/Trailerbait
I usually jam my used/torn plastic worms in the outer pocket of my tacklebag, so when I want a spinnerbait trailer I just grab a ripped worm and use a few inches of it as a SB trailer. It adds bulk, a bit more action, and you just can't beat the price.

Pistol Advice
As someone who has owned a half-dozen 1911's (both custom and stock) and carried one daily for several years, it is the absolute last handgun platform I'd recommend to someone just getting into firearms. They were designed to be carried "cocked-and-locked" (round chambered, hammer cocked, thumb safety on), which is not something I'd recommend to a newbie. You could always carry with the hammer down on a loaded chamber, which is unsafe unless you're carry a model with a firing pin block (Series II Kimbers, Colt Series 80, etc) but many of those models come with reliability issues as well. Another option is hammer down on an empty chamber, which is basically a 1911 paperweight. An unloaded gun is nothing more than a club, and a pitiful one at that. None of these are acceptable options in a defensive scenario, imho. Don't even get me started on the reliability of most 1911 style pistols. In many cases they're like owning a vintage Harley. They're pretty to look at, and a blast to own/use, as long as you don't mind the never-ending tweaking that's required to keep them functioning. I got tired of unreliable "defensive" pistols, sold my 1911's, and replaced them with Sigs and Glocks. Now, $500 won't buy you a new Sig, but it can get you a new Glock which (ergonomics aside) is one of the finest defensive handgun platforms available.
