  1. The IPT is fine for soft plastics, but I prefer a slightly faster retrieve for spinnerbaits and jigs. It would work fine, though, if you wanted to use one reel for everything.
  2. No, I think you've pretty much nailed it. The main reasons for their popularity are price, appearance, and the St. Croix name...not their sensitivity, durability, or action. The Triumph and Premier use the same blank, one is slightly more expensive, the other slightly less expensive, but neither sells as well as the Mojo due to the split grip and flashier color. A lot of folks saw an opportunity to own a trick-looking rod from a high-end manufacturer for less than $100 and jumped on them. By now the novelty and "wow factor" has worn off and the real reviews are coming out. They're nothing special, and definitely far from impressive, imho. If you're interested in buying a used one, keep an eye on the Flea Market. Many of those same folks will be ditching their lightly used Mojos for the next big thing...the Vendetta. :
  3. It depends on the plastics. A weightless Senko weighs as much as a typical 7" worm with an 1/8 oz weight.
  4. This ought to be good. I get to take all the good stuff out and ship the box on to Clark Stewart full of nothing but Helicopter Lures and Dancin' Eels. ;D
  5. If you're in the Atlanta area I'll cut you a deal on a very lightly used 6'10" MH/XF BPS Johnny Morris Signature Series 'Carolina Rig' rod. They come with Fuji's titanium-framed SiC guides, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a lighter or more durable guide at any price. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_98025_100002006_100000000_100002000_100-2-6
  6. I typically work out from midnight to about 2 am, so on the nights I just don't feel like working out I hit a little county pond with t-rigged 4" worms and small spinnerbaits. The mosquitos are awful and the chiggers are even worse, but the fishing is actually pretty good. Deep Woods Off can be your best friend on nights like that.
  7. Don't bother with the one on 78 in the Stone Mountain/Snellville area. They cleared that kind of stuff out about 1.5-2 yrs ago and never restocked any of it. They've got a bunch of last year's Shimano spinning reels at full price, over-priced Rapala cranks in colors nobody wants, a bizarre little assortment of soft plastics, racks full of cheapo rods, and a several rod/reel combos missing the reels...but still marked at full price. :
  8. This comes up every few months. Do a search in the"Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, Leaders, and Knots" forum for "Acadia" and you'll find about 25 posts.
  9. That's one of the reasons I gave up my "job" as a mod on a custom motorcycle forum. The mods and admin would talk trash about board members in their little "Club House" and then kiss the same member's @$$ out in the public areas. I hate two-faced people. >
  10. I have some of each, but I find the full grips more comfortable for certain applications.
  11. Why would the price drop? x2 The Curado is a bargain at retail price. I think they underpriced it, actually, but I'm not complaining.
  12. It would look sexy on a few of Daiwa's upper-level rods, as well.
  13. Man, thanks for posting these links! I've been looking for a new spinnerbait rod for the past week or so with a budget of about $100, and had pretty much settled on the 7' Mojo MH 'Spinnerbait' model. Instead, I've ordered the 6'10" PTC6106FKV for $80 from Simmons. Grand total with shipping and insurance was only a few dollars more than the Mojo would've cost me from my local BPS.
  14. That's a possibility since they're also claiming a 20# max drag. I can see right now that I'm going to have to start saving my nickels for a new XT.
  15. According to Tackle Wharehouse, the sideplates are titanium-coated aluminum. They've dropped a bearing, changed handles and knobs, the drag star has changed as well.
  16. They also list the XT as having aluminum gears. Does the "standard" Patriarch have aluminum gears?
  17. That new Patriarch XT is one sexy mofo.
  18. I wonder if they're on sale in the store, too? I could use some spinnerbait trailers, and that's something that's really not worth shipping.
  19. Especially in a state like NH, where it's so easy to get a permit. I grew up about an hour North of Pelham, and most of my family still lives in the area. If it wasn't for that nasty white stuff that falls from the sky for half of the year, I'd probably move back. GA winters are just so much nicer.
  20. Bingo. If you'd run your fishing club more like a biker gang, these types of things wouldn't happen. ;D
  21. That's funny because the half-dozen Walmarts right around here only carry the President spinning reel and Pflueger's bottom of the line baitcasters. I've thought about picking up a President, but they only carry one size and it's just too heavy.
  22. If I was interested in a Pflueger President, I'd pick one up from my local Walmart instead of paying shipping from Cabelas. Now if you live near Cabelas, that's another story.
  23. ***'s "Floater" will float, but not with a 3/0 EWG hook. It may float with a fine wire 2/0 offset hook, though.
  24. There was a discussion about this a few weeks ago... http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1249315498
  25. I just started the application process last night to go back to school, after almost 20 yrs. I think I may have missed the deadline for the fall term, but I won't know until I receive my confirmation email.
