Ill add big Spinner Baits to JT's Post. Add a Bigger trailer Add Pork to Jigs Natural Colors tend to catch bigger fish as well. Put the Hot pinks away If you feel crazy throw a big top water bait when every one else quits.

How long is the Spawn Cycle?
The time period on the spawn varies but it could be a month to a month and a half. Not all bass spawn at the same time I have seen bass on beds the last week in april. There were still some one beds in June.

Fishing strengths VS versatility
Actually Lure makers will benefit no matter what the conditions are. If some one wins on there brand of crank bait they sell alot of crankbaits. The pros are more versitile then you think. Denny Brauer was throwing a Crankbait in one of the E50's. Hed have won the tourney if the fish didnt get off. Its not knowing the technique as much as knowing the Conditions and the areas to use that technique in.

What is your #1 fish catching tactic
I fish so many baits lakes and rivers that all fish differently its hard to say. But all time most fish caught on has been a 4 inch black and chartruce or a pumpkinseed chartruce Gene Larew Salt Craw texas rigged

Favorite tactics from back of the boat?
There are some days when you just take it like a man. Throw a different bait if hes flipping the holes ask if you can paralell the grass line. Maybe Fish a rat over the top of the grass or try to locate holes farther back in the grass.

I see'm..no hits.. what to do next
101 You caught the bass in one of there most negitive moods of the season. They are up crusing looking for a place to bed. Until these bass lock down they are extremely hard to catch. We had this situation happen in a tourney last year. No bass in sight on friday caught them on the outside grass line. By saturday after noon they was crusing every where in the shallows. 95% of the bass weighed were caught before 10 am and it only took 4 fish to win it.

When to throw reaction lures?
Whats the water temp? Generally you can look for a reaction strike when the water is 55 degrees or higher if the bass are in pre spawn mode. Then post spawn till late fall. Id say 85% maybe more of the bites you get when fishing are reaction strikes.

How do you tell?
Some one stated earlier that you will feel a big bass tap at the bait or tug tug. My biggest bass ever 8.0 came on a salt craw. I was yoyoing the bait on a twig when I went to pull it over there was a massive blow up. I just dropped my rod tip and waited. The line never moved never felt a thing I think she initially missed it by how it fell. She must have sucked it back in and I didnt know it till I tried to lift the bait. Not all big fish bite hard at all generally if I feel a single tap or the line twitch or lift up and something is different its usually a bigger fish

How do you tell?
The secret to detecting any bite is the feel of the lure. What happens is you get intune with that the lure is doing under the water. Any time the feel of that alters you either hit structure or have a bite. If your fishing a worm watch the line if it moves any direction, or jumps you have a bite. If you lift up on the rod and it dont feel right set the hook. With a crankbait normally youll feel the bite it will stop and youll feel the head shake. some times it jut changes vibration Spinnerbait bites are usually pretty violent the bait will flat out stop or run. some cases the bait just changes vibration as well The main secret to detecting bites is know what your lure is doing its a feel youll develop. When in Doubt set the HOOK

Three lures to start every day
Ill answer it this way when I go fishing I always have texas rig, crankbait, spinnerbait, jig tied on. Then I'll have different versions of each bait on for different conditions. 1 to 5 other rods with me given the conditions and season and where im fishing and I will start with what best fits the scenerio of where im starting.

Three lures to start every day
I never limit my fishing to 3 baits everyday, every where I go. Youll never learn anything that way

Outboard Transmissions? Good Idea?
I agree with JT. Plus I fish where being on pad asap is most important. I dont see the benefits of a transmission.

Small (and cold) Lakes
Tommy Remember these things. 1) 6 inches to 3 foot is a drop off. 2) 6 inches to 3 foot is a ledge 3) they might still be suspended in the middle of the lake 4) Find the sunken structure on the ledges or drop offs 5) Fish the north side and get out of the shade. 6) Use bulkier baits (dont have the be heavier) 7) Natural Colored baits 8) Fish slow then you think your going too slow, slow down some more

Fish Just Gotta Eat
I was bluegill fishing in a local stripmine lake. The Water was so claear I could see 20 bulegill that were not interested in my bait. Well in this boredum I stepped on a stump in the water. Out swimms a bass in excess of 6 lbs. Being in the age range of 10 to 11 years old I was shocked. All of a sudden the bluegill all fly at my bait. One grabbs the bait and I set the hook and start reeling it in rather easily. I was using a 5'6" Lucky Stick with a ultralight reel. The rod doubles instantly. I look down that bass is eating my bluegill. I yell for my dad and the bass comes off. My dad comes running thinking I am hurt. I guess I was yelling to loud and paniced. I tell my dad of the huge bass I lost on my bluegill he didn't believe me. So I cast the same bluegill back out there. It was half dead and it's tail was smacking the top of the water. With out hesitation there was a huge boil. I said still think i'm lying. I landed that bass and released her to back to the lake. Funniest thing is I never had her hooked.

Ill get my digital camera this week ill try to post some pics. It dont look the best crappy carpet layer lol

Flipping and Pitching
well said BC I will add 1 thing to all my fellow non boaters out there be prepared to pitch 30 feet. Especially in river conditions in a big draw tournament. It brings out the lake guys. Some of these guys with 40,000 dollar boats dont get close enough to properly fish structure for fear of getting a scratch. Which I don't blame them. Im a river fishermen I might just Key the next boat I buy and not worry about scratching it after that.

jon boat seat
I put two decks in my jon boat. One goes past the front bench and the other over the back bench. I left the middle bench and an open area inbetween. It is a 16 foot flat bottom I dont sit down when I bass fish and if im bobboer fishing good ole lawn chairs do the trick

briggs and stratton
If any of you get the nerve take them B&s motors to a gokart motor builder and see if you can rigg a clutch on them. I raced gokarts for many years and dad still has a racing business. I raced at almost 400 lbs with a b&s engine i raced what was the stock class and was hitting speeds in excess of 70 mph. I thought about buying one of them outboards and seeing what i could do to it.

Down Size or Up Size????????
One of the main reasons behind the bigger baits in the early part of the season is the size of the forage. Crawdads haven't had a hatch yet and neither have the shad. The shad that survived the cold winters are going to be pretty descent sized.
