  1. Snag, Save yourself some money run the lower octaine gas is what i have always been told from boat dealers. Also avoid gas with ethenol in it
  2. Buy some braided line like Power Pro. This has less stretch and is more sensitive. the longer the cast the mono will stretch on a hook set and could be part of your reason.
  3. This topic has been moved to [link=http://bassresource.com/cgi-bin/bass_fish/YaBB.pl?board=Tournament_Talk_ID;action=display;num=1109037432;start=0]Tournament Talk[/link] by Glenn.
  4. Don't set the hook so hard. Losen the drag.
  5. Situation. Acording to Lary Nixon you can always count on bass eating Green Pumpkin in one of southern states I cant rember wich one color selection is based on forage, water clarity, and as KVD says,"Color of the bottom"
  6. I dont mind as long as it goes back into the Fisheries. I think in Illinois they only put it back in Lake Michigan some stockings and into other non fishing resources
  7. I used to make my own spinner baits. It is fun forawhile but the amount of stuff you need to keep up is a pain. White, silver, blue, black, chartruce, red, orange, brown, and mirage skirt colors, tinsel blades in all shapes sizes and colors its actually a huge investment for me since I match spinner baits to the conditions im faceing. I firmly believe skirt color on a spinner bait is as important as blades
  8. Rich this week the ice looks to be finally safe enough for me to stroll out there in a month and a half ill be getting the boat ready
  9. 2) Over sized buzzbaits are just as easy to use just strat reeling as soon as possible because they dont rise as fast. 3) cut the skirt on a jig, the weed gaurd can be cut thinned, spread. rattles can be added or removed. Pork chunks, plastic pork chunks in all shapes and sizes, worms, grubs, lizzards, frogs, crawdads. all can be used as a jig trailers you can add a piece of different colored pastic to the throat of the hook to give it a flash of color any more?
  10. Hookset good observation bass will rise and fall on vertical structure with the water levels till the bait leaves. JT I agree about the size thing but a Bass is a Bass and if the bottomn dont fall out of it they will follow the structure they have available to them as long as the bait is still there As for the saddle thing yes they are good to check out. I dont fish alot of this situation. I would try to get a copy of the Smith Lake Bassmaster event from last year. If i remember right the lake rose very quickly might be of some help to you in the spring cause it was pre spawn conditions.
  11. The man with the Law Suit is a Bass Federation member I was told. So i dont believe he was some guy who didnt know how to ride in a boat thats all the facts I know.
  12. Now here all of us right handers are told to use left handed reels so we dont have to switch hands Proabally easier to learn to cast left handed.
  13. I always thought you was backwards.
  14. We have a small lake that has an 8 foot draw down here but 8 foot is alot when max depth is 33 foot. Our lake keeps vegitation though it is drawn down for the fish to feed and they know it. When the lake initially begins to fall beat the First edge of the cover. The minnows and bait ill be sucked to this edge and the bass will have a field day. Then move from there to the next edge. Once the visiable cover is gone id say find the creek channel or go to the humps as stated above. Now when the lake rises the bass will follow it and bank is important. The thing id look at is water color. If this lake is clear the bass wont need to go that far to spawn and they wont. I would find a good solid bottom You can scout this right now. Bass like to spawn on a good bottomn they dont want mud. They will spawn in a bush or even on a log. So in your draw down look for these high water areas with solid bottomn where thy can go in the high water and get their business done. You can fish the flooded bushes just like a small lake or get right in them. There will be bushes that make points, bushes on ledges, pockets in the bushes. as it gets closer to spawn id get right in the heart of them.
  15. I drill lotts of holes and work on getting a case of bucket butt and verticle jigging on lite tackle
  16. I also just noticed on the roll cast i do it wrong i pull my Elbow out.
  17. Skipping Docks with a spinning reel or a bait caster. Bait casters are 3 times harder to use. Roll casts are pretty simple. First get you your favorite fishing rods or rods (good to learn with different rods) and a news paper. Now put the news paper under your elbow and hold it to your side. If you drop the paper your doing it wrong. leave 12 to 18 inches of line outthen with your wrist roll the rod around and let the bait go. This should keep the bait lower to the water and more accurate with less splash. Im sure there is some one that can explain it better then I
  18. my off season work out now in cludes waiting for JT to go nutts when he breaks a rod on the cealing of his basement.
  19. Mississippi river pool 18,19 and 10
  20. Im with Bagwell. I can fish deep but unless there is some sort of rocks grass or wood deep Its the most boring time i can have on the water. Following a contour line all over a lake looking for a school of fish can become manotinous
  21. Rich I wasnt refering to your post. I havent really fished the types of areas you talked about except in a river situation. The musquitos would drive me out of an area like your describing even if the fish were hitting
  22. oh did i mention a back water with or with out current, a slough, a lake, marina?
