thanks guys. I didn't think there would be much point in networking these 2 models. I am gonna wait until next year to get a new graph, then i will move the 125x up front. We will see what they come up with in the next year or if they come down in price/ get the bugs worked out of the new lowrance hds.

thanks everyone. I may try it both ways this year. (mono backer for the summer and 6# yo-z U.S for bass......then switch over to the braid for pike fishing....with a leader of course!).

I will use the 4000 spinning reel mostly this fall. I have a lighter setup and smaller shimano (spirex?) for my bassin'. We will be trolling...mostly for northern pike. We catch an occasional walleye, a few smallies, and an occasional sheepshead. The only reason I was considering the 6# yo-zuri ultrasoft on the big real is because it has such a high breaking strength. I have to buy the 6# for my smaller reel anyway....I guess I am leaning toward trying the braid on the bigger reel since we do mostly staigth line trolling with large rapals (7 inch) and other cranks. Seems like the braid would work great for this type of thing....any other suggestions or comments are welcome1

I had planned on putting 6# yozuri ultra soft on it until I looked at the spool and it recommends 8,10, 0r 12 # line. Everyone here recommends putting the 6# yz us on spinning reels. I don't see the benefit of going to the 8# yz u.s since it does not really provide a signifcant increase in breaking strength Should I go ahead and put the 6# on that big of reel.....or just go with something different ....like mono backer with braid and a fluor leader.???

I have a revo stx and so far it has been AWESOME. I am thinking about the zillion as my next...maybe even the zillion 4.9:1. However; the revo has been soooooo good so far that I don't know if I can justify spending the extra money for minimal if any performance increase.

Roger that Way2slow. You were a huge help!! Guess when its time to upgrade I will get another similar battery and upgrade to a triple bank charger so that I can charge my cranking battery too. Joe

Way2Slow....I was hoping you would post a thread here. After reading some previous threads about batteries, you obviously know your stuff. As of now, I am probably ok with one battery, but I am always looking to upgrade my equipment. When I bought my boat, I didn't know a thing about electric trolling motors. I should have insisted on at least a 24 volt; however, for the amount of time I am able to get out and actually fish....the run time on my current setup is usually adequate...as long as i'm not running it at full power. High wind days do seem to suck my battery and after reading that it is best not to discharge the deep cycles beyond 40-50%....well....maybe it is worth it getting an extra battery?!? Are the blue top deep cycle batteries (optima) worth all the hype? Are they worth upgrading to if and when my current interstate battery dies? Can I mix and match an optima with my current interstate (not sure of the specs on this battery?)

I currently have a motorguide 55# digital wireless trolling motor mounted on the bow of my boat. It is a 12v model. I have one deep cycle marine battery that runs it. I have heard that you can add a second battery for this setup just by connecting the positve to positive and the negative to negative. 1) Would i see a huge gain in performance? 2) Would it extend battery life enough so that it would be worth it? 3) I currently have a 1 bank charger on my battery...would I have to go to a 2 bank charger to properly charge the second battery separately if I did decide to go with a second battery? Help a brother out!

I have a crestliner 1850 fishhawk with a lowrance x125 on the dash....(its transducer is mounted on the transom) . I need another depth finder so that i can fish out of the bow of the boat and see the screen. i was contemplating a lowrance 520 or 522 with gps. I would most likely move the x125 to the bow and put my 520 at the helm. Question number 1) Could i use the current x125 transom transducer for the 520 (so I wouldn't have to re-run wire, etc.) and then just buy a trolling motor transducer mount with the 520, mount that on my trolling motor, and then hook that up to the x125 that i'm thinking of moving to the bow. Are the transducers essentially the same for these 2 units? 2) Also, can I network these 2 units, and if so, how does would this really help me?

Is it ok to spool line onto a spinning reel using the berkley spooling station. It works great on the baitcaster....does it cause too much line twist when reeling it on manually with the berkley spooling station? Let me know if it caused any problems if you have done it this way.

He everybody, I was looking a good pitching line. I pitch a lot of jigs and plastics and mainly less than 1/2 once. I am using suffix elite in clear, and I like the line. The problem is that I cannot see the line. I like being able to see the line for light bites. I didnt want something too bright. I was thinking yozuri hybrid. any suggestions?

I don't know if it is fair to make a comparison right now, but I have recently gotten a chance to fish with my new revo stx, and.....wow, it is a nice, smooth reel, with very tight tolerances and a great anti-backlash system. My new reel for last year was a quantum tour edition pt burner. Now, I have enjoyed that reel but have had a few small issues with it (when I click the the handle and it locks in, the handle will slip back about a quarter of an inch...meaning the anti-reverse seems to be malfunctioning a bit, it is starting to get a little noisy...but all in all it still casts well and performs well). My point is, and this is not a quantum bashfest because I like their products, there seems to be tighter tolerances in the abu reel. Maybe its not fair to compare the two since one is brand new and the other is a year old and has some serious miles on it (from tossing a lot of lipless cranks). Anyone else use both of these reels? What do you think? Just curious. Anyone else out there think another reel in the revo price range just blows it away?? The reason I ask is purchasing a reel is a BIG investment anymore....and I want to get the most bang for my buck. Thanks

I, in the past, have been a hardcore CRANKER. I am trying to diversify my game a little and actually did quite well pitching hula grubs at docks last summer. My problem is, I lack the knowledge on how to rig this plastic vs. that plastic, which size hook to use, etc. Can anyone direct me to some photos or a website that has the majority of techniques listed? It would be greatly appreciated...I have a hard time filtering through info efficiently when I use the search feature on this forum. Thanks!

I did a lot of pitching with the 12# Ultra soft today for the first time and liked it......now, I need to spool up some of the regular hybrid and see how I like that....hope its not too stiff!

The Zillion may be my next reel....but I hate to get a reel that expensive in such a one dimensional speed (5:1). If i'm gonna drop that kind of 'cheddar' on that nice of a reel, I want to be able to use it for multiple application (6.3:1 probably). However, I do loooooooove to crank so maybe I will sleep on it....probably won't buy another til next year so I may have more options by then anyhow! Thanks.

Looking to slow my cranking down a little. I currently crank with 6.3 and 7:1 baitcasting reels. What do you recommend for me in a left handed model (I noticed shimano doesnt make their 5.x:1 reel left handed and neither do a lot of companies...WHICH REALLY ANGERS ME!) Your thoughts? I was looking for something in the 5.x to 1 give or take a little

Thanks guys! Another question though? Would you bother with a fluoro leader when trolling for pike? The water is fairly clear in the st. marys river....If so, how do you tie fluoro to braid?? Is a blood knot appropriate? I hate to make my setup too complicated (knot at jxn. and at leader) if I don't have too! Also, how long can I leave braid on my reels (as long as it doesn't get too banged up? More than one season? One season? Any input would help

I have yet to spool new line on my spinning reels this spring. My question is, is it ok to put braid on a spinning reels? Most of my bass fishing is done with my baitcasters. In the fall i will take a trip to the upper peninsula where we do a lot of trolling (with stick type baits--7 inch rapalas, cranks, etc.) This is primarily where I use my spinning reels. Would I benefit by using braid for this type of fishing since it is so strong, sensitive, and has a smaller diameter/lb than other line, thus allowing it to go deeper. Abrasion would not be an issue and i would probably tie on a fluor leader and maybe even a titanium wire leader to that since we primarily catch northern pike. Is it a pain to fish braid on spinning reels? Do you normally put some type of backer line down on the spool before putting it on? Anyone???

I think the p line is thicker....but if I bought a smaller pound p line test would it be the same buying the next size up silver thread an40. I know some manufacturers inflate their breaking strength number by calling it 10# test (even though the line diameter may be equal to that of 12 # test). For me, I am looking for a combination decent strength and castability (I fish in Michigan......a 5 pounder is a BIG fish here most of the time!). Let me know what yall think or use for cranking!
